The Wizards were lead by Nick Young who scored a career high 43 points. Rookie John Wall had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. The Wizards managed to out-rebound the Kings 55-40 as the front line consisting of Andray Blatche, Javale McGee and Rashard Lewis posted double-double games.

Blatche had 16 points and 13 rebounds, McGee had 10 points and 11 rebounds while Lewis with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The team has announced that Josh Howard will be sidelined for an extended time for more rehabilitation and treatment of Howard's left knee due to tendinitis.

Wall, Wizards snap 8-game skid, beat Bucks 100-85



WASHINGTON (AP)—John Wall(notes) took a jet-setter’s trip to Lexington, Ky., and brought home some of that UK winning magic. Nick Young(notes) got all flashy with a pair of highlight dunks, and JaVale McGee(notes) got the better of his head-to-head with Andrew Bogut(notes).
The Washington Wizards were finally winners again Wednesday night, snapping an eight-game skid with a 100-85 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Wall had 15 points, six assists and seven rebounds one night after returning to his old school to watch Kentucky beat Tennessee. Wall left Washington after Tuesday’s practice, sat courtside, got a standing ovation, spoke to the Wildcats in the locker room, flew back home and tucked himself in at his usual wee-hours time.


“Seeing them play hard and seeing them win might have brought some excitement for me today,” Wall said. “I usually go to bed about 2 or 3 (a.m.). I know some people were probably concerned and saying I might be tired or I shouldn’t have went to the game, but I think I got back at a reasonable time. That’s the time I usually go to sleep. I took me a nap today. That’s the thing I usually do.”
Young scored 26 points, McGee had 16 points and 17 rebounds, and Cartier Martin(notes) hit a career-high five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. The Wizards took the lead 5 minutes into the game and never lost it, leading by double digits for nearly the entire second half.
The win kept Washington with a winning record at home (14-12), a welcome contrast to the team’s 0-25 mark on the road. The Wizards have one more game in the homestand before they put their dubious streak on the line in a much-anticipated—at least from a painful-to-watch standpoint—visit to last-place Cleveland on Sunday.
“We really need these wins,” McGee said, “so we can go on the road and get some wins, too.”
Young had a flying one-handed baseline dunk in the first half and scored 11 points in the 16-4 run that gave the Wizards a 20-point lead early in the third quarter. Among the highlights: Young picked off a pass, tossed the ball to Wall, then received an alley-opp pass back from the rookie to finish off the fast break with another one-handed jam.
So which was his favorite?
“I’m going to say the flying one-hand,” Young said. “I haven’t done one of the those in a while.”
Brandon Jennings(notes) scored 20 points to lead the Bucks, who have lost five of six and fell 2 1/2 games behind the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee was hoping to build some momentum after a home win over Toronto on Tuesday, but, as coach Scott Skiles said before the game: “We haven’t done a good enough job this year of beating teams around or below our own record.”
“We needed this win tonight. It’s important for us to beat these teams that we’re capable of beating,” said Corey Maggette(notes), who scored 10 points. “We took a step back.”
McGee had his first double-double since Jan. 24, pulling down more rebounds than in his last four games combined (12) and getting in the last word against Bogut. Bogut scored eight of Milwaukee’s first 10 points, but didn’t score again until 2 1/2 minutes to play in the game.
The Bucks were also outrebounded 51-39 and made only 5 of 12 free throws.
“They pretty much dominated us all over the floor,” Skiles said. “They outrebounded us. They went 10 for 16 from three. We couldn’t get to the line. When we did, we couldn’t make our free throws. We tried to hang in there, but we just couldn’t.”
The Bucks are finally getting healthy after a season filled with injuries, but it’s going to take a while before everyone’s back to form.
“I’m still struggling with my outside shot—no legs, a little bit—but just trying to get to the basket to do what I can,” said Jennings, who was only 1 for 6 from 3-point range in his seventh game back from a broken foot.
Meanwhile, the Wizards were having fun, despite being undermanned in the frontcourt. Even guard Kirk Hinrich(notes) had a rare highlight block, rejecting John Salmons’(notes) drive into the seats. Hinrich has only seven blocks on the season.
The Wizards dressed only 10 players, and all the missing notables were forwards: Al Thornton(notes) (dislocated right middle finger), Yi Jianlian(notes) (sprained left ankle) and Josh Howard(notes) (sore left knee). In addition Rashard Lewis(notes) played with stiffness in his right knee and scored only three points in 29 minutes.
Several Washington played credited the win to a feisty attitude recently at practice.
“It’s been very competitive, a lot of guys getting into arguments, really just competing,” McGee said.
So who wins the arguments?
“Whoever’s right.”
Notes: Milwaukee F Chris Douglas-Roberts(notes) was suffering from an illness and did not play until the final 1:10. … Bucks F-C Larry Sanders(notes) sat out with back spasms.

Lewis contemplating surgery

Forward Rashard Lewis is contemplating injury to repair tendonitis on his right knee that had hobbled him for several weeks.

Lewis said in a statement for the Washington Examiner:

"Surgery is an option, just to clean it out, a scope, but it's not something that I want to do right now. I think it'd be an option after the season, but we're going to see how it feels over these next couple of games leading up to the break, just to decide what we're going to do."

Wizards end road winless streak at 25

CLEVELAND (AP)—The Wizards traveled to the right place for a road win.
Nick Young(notes) scored 31 points, John Wall(notes) had 19 points and 14 assists and Washington snapped its 25-game road winless streak with a 115-100 win Sunday night over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who reverted to their losing ways one game after ending their record skid.
The Wizards opened a 25-point lead in the third quarter, survived a Cleveland comeback and got their first road win since April 9 at Boston.


Antawn Jamison(notes) scored 21 and J.J. Hickson(notes) added 16 and 13 rebounds for the Cavs, who stopped their losing streak at 26 on Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers but failed to post back-to-back wins for the second time this season.
Washington finished four losses shy of matching the league’s longest losing streak to start a season, 29 in a row by the 1992-93 Dallas Mavericks.
Blown out and embarrassed in a 118-94 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, the Wizards came out focused on getting a win outside D.C.’s city limits. They started 9 of 11 from the field and opened a 17-point lead in the first quarter on Young’s second straight three-point play.
The Wizards pushed their lead to 22 in the first half, outrunning and outhustling the flat-footed Cavs, who have now dropped 37 of 39 in a gloomy season. Cleveland coach Byron Scott wasn’t happy with his club’s effort and he let them know it during a timeout.
About the only thing that didn’t go Washington’s way in the first half was when Wall missed a breakaway, left-handed dunk, a blooper likely to be looped on highlight reels. But he more than made up for it with nine first-half assists, and a supersonic end-to-end dash for a layup in the final seconds that gave the Wizards a 68-46 halftime lead.
The Cavs simply watched Wall’s vapor tail and they didn’t offer much resistance in the third as the Wizards pushed their lead to 95-70 on Young’s third straight made jumper. Washington came in averaging 96.7 points per game, but the Wizards topped 100 points when Josh Howard(notes), playing for the first time since Jan. 5 because of a sore knee, hit a 3-pointer with 8:03 remaining.
Cleveland got as close as 11 on Jamario Moon’s(notes) 3-pointer, but the Wizards got two easy baskets inside by Andray Blatche(notes) to open some breathing room.
After the clock expired, Wall lifted his arms in triumph and the Wizards shared some hugs and high-fives before heading to the locker room, where they could finally pack their bags while smiling.
With point guard Mo Williams(notes) back in the starting lineup and forward Leon Powe(notes) active, the Cavaliers entered as healthy as they’ve been in weeks. They didn’t leave it that way, though.
Guard Daniel Gibson(notes) didn’t play in the second half because of a strained quadriceps muscle. It’s not clear when Gibson got hurt. He came out for warmups at halftime before going to the locker room accompanied by trainer Max Benton, who has been busy this season treating the Cavs.
Notes: Howard scored 16 points in 26 minutes. … If not for Hickson’s block on Baron Davis(notes) to end regulation on Friday, the Cavs’ epic losing streak would still be going. The Clippers wanted goaltending on the play. So, coach Scott, was the block legal? “No comment,” he said, laughing. “It was really, really close.” … Powe, sidelined since Jan. 7 after undergoing knee surgery, dressed but didn’t play. … Jamison was facing his former team for the first time, and he warmly greeted each of the Wizards coaches before tip-off.
