Celtics' West has surgery on broken right wrist

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Celtics guard Delonte West is recovering from surgery to repair his broken right wrist.

Doctors operated on a dislocated right wrist fracture on Tuesday at the New England Baptist Hospital. The team said there is no timetable for his return.

"It's going to be a long time," coach Doc Rivers said. "Let's put it that way."

West crashed to the ground after a layup in last Wednesday's game against the New Jersey Nets. He remained on the court for a few minutes before walking off, holding his right arm in his left, still in obvious pain.

No foul was called on Travis Outlaw, who was guarding him.

West averaging 7.5 points in about 19 minutes per game since returning from a 10-game suspension for his guilty plea on gun charges.

Celtics' Rondo a last-minute scratch; Harris plays

NEWARK, N.J.(AP) -- Celtics' All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo is a last-minute scratch for Boston's game against with the New Jersey Nets.

Rondo decided he couldn't play Sunday after testing his hamstring and foot during pregame workouts. Nate Robinson started in his place.

New Jersey point guard Devin Harris was cleared to play after missing two games with a strained left knee.

Harris was injured during the Nets' loss to the Knicks on Tuesday night. He then missed overtime losses to Oklahoma City and Charlotte.

Rondo leads the NBA in assists with 14.1 per game.

Wolves say Tolliver out at least six weeks with knee injury

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves say forward Anthony Tolliver will miss six to eight weeks with a sprained right knee ligament.

Tolliver doesn't plan on being out that long.

Tolliver was hurt Friday during the second quarter against San Antonio. A team spokesman says Tolliver had an MRI exam Sunday that confirmed a sprained MCL in his right knee.

The 25-year-old Tolliver is planning on a quicker timeline that the one announced by the team before Monday night's game at the New York Knicks. He writes on his Twitter page, "Ill b back b4 then! Trust me..."

Tolliver is averaging 6.4 points in his first season for the banged-up Timberwolves, who already are playing without guard Jonny Flynn and forward Martell Webster.

Nets' Harris exits game with sprained shoulder

DALLAS (AP) -- New Jersey guard Devin Harris missed the final three quarters of the Nets' game Thursday night against the Dallas Mavericks because of a sprained left shoulder.

Harris was injured in the first quarter when he tried to deflect an alley-oop pass and fell to the floor.

The Nets said in the second quarter that Harris, who played for the Mavericks from 2004-08, wouldn't return to the game. He was scoreless in 9:22 after entering the game with a 17.1-point average.

Tyreke Evans cleared to play despite foot injury

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—The Sacramento Kings say reigning Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans will be able to play though an inflamed arch on his left foot.

The team said Friday that an MRI the previous day showed that Evans’ plantar fascia is intact and he has no stress fracture.

Evans will continue his prescribed treatments of a combination of medication, sleeping in a night splint and walking in a boot when not playing or practicing. He has been cleared to practice and play.

Evans is struggling in his second season. He is scoring 17.1 points per game and shooting below 40 percent from the field. Sacramento has lost 14 of 16 games.

Clippers' Kaman to miss three weeks with foot injury

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman will miss at least three weeks because of an aggravated bone bruise and ligament sprain of his left ankle.

Kaman was examined by the team physician after undergoing an MRI earlier this week and was then re-evaluated on Friday. He will wear a protective boot when not undergoing rehab.

Kaman is averaging 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 10 games this season. He originally hurt his ankle on Nov. 9 in New Orleans and re-injured it last weekend.

Warriors' Curry out indefinitely with sprained ankle

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Golden State guard Stephen Curry sat out the Warriors' game against Miami on Friday and will likely miss more time due to his sprained right ankle.

Curry, the Warriors' second-leading scorer, was hurt in the second quarter of Wednesday's 111-94 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The second-year guard was dribbling behind the 3-point line when he hunched over, called a timeout and fell to the ground in pain. He was helped off the court by teammates and did not return.

Curry later underwent X-rays which were negative.

"He's going to be out for a little bit," Golden State coach Keith Smart said. "We're re-evaluating him day by day to see how the ankle is responding to the rest and treatment."

Curry sprained the same ankle in three straight games earlier this season. The injury eventually forced him to miss two games, though the ankle didn't appear to be giving Curry much problem lately until he rolled it against the Spurs.

"You've got to be a little bit concerned because now he's rolling it without stepping on someone," Smart said. "It's fatiguing out a little bit. It's kind of shutting down."

Curry didn't seem too concerned and hopes the additional rest will help speed his recovery. Following Friday's game against the Heat, the Warriors play back-to-backs at Utah on Monday and against Minnesota on Tuesday.

"My body heals pretty fast," Curry said. "I've just got to make sure the strength is back, and that's the thing that you can't really measure. I can do all of the tests that I want to, but there's no telling if it will feel the same after three games in four days."

Anthony hopes to return Sunday to play in New York

NEW YORK (AP) -- Carmelo Anthony definitely wants to play in New York - on Sunday.

He insists he isn't thinking about his future beyond that, and denies circling the Denver Nuggets' lone visit to Madison Square Garden on his calendar.

"Everybody's been circling it for me. So I didn't have a chance to circle this game," Anthony said Saturday after practice at a local sports club.

It's Anthony's opportunity to inherit LeBron James' old role as the superstar who receives a raucous ovation from the Knicks' fans, because they believe he'll soon be joining them.

James passed on the Knicks - "Now they boo him," Anthony said - and the Nuggets' star reiterated Saturday that he hasn't already decided he's Big Apple bound, no matter what has been reported.

"Everybody's got something to say about every situation," Anthony said. "My mind is not made up, my mind is just focused on this game tomorrow. That's really all I'm focused on right now. My mind is not made up, I don't know where that's coming from."

It's not certain Anthony will play. He missed the last two games with a sore right knee, and the Nuggets are calling him a game-time decision. Anthony worked out and said he'll arrive early to the arena to test the knee, but coach George Karl said his gut feeling was that Anthony would try to go.

Anthony seemed to be moving well during his workout, saying he felt better but was still bothered sometimes when running or jumping. If he plays, the Knicks expect him to play well.

"If he's out there, he's going to be a handful," coach Mike D'Antoni said.

One that Knicks fans envision lining up alongside Amare Stoudemire in a powerful front line.

Anthony has refused to sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension that has been on the table since last summer and can become a free agent in July. A resolution will come before then, as Anthony said he has constant discussions with general manager Masai Ujiri and expects a decision one way or the other to be made before February's trading deadline - when the Nuggets would likely deal Anthony if he told them he wasn't coming back.

If Anthony is considering New York, where he was born, lived his first eight years and was married this summer, the Knicks can show him something they couldn't when they tried to recruit James. They have won seven straight and are 15-9, playing their best basketball in a decade, and with Stoudemire in place have a much better chance of convincing a free agent he can win here.

"I think every organization, that would be better," D'Antoni said. "I think that you win, you get more valuable pieces."

Whether he comes or not, Anthony has already helped the Knicks. He last spoke to Stoudemire after the Nuggets' 120-118 victory in Nov. 16 in Denver that dropped New York to 3-8. Anthony said he told his friend to "get them boys on track, to do what he's got to do."

The Knicks are 12-1 since, and Stoudemire tied a franchise record in Friday's 101-95 victory at Washington with his seventh straight 30-point game.

"It sunk in and he's doing everything I told him to do," Anthony said.

Though the game is getting attention in New York and Anthony joked that all of Brooklyn might be in attendance, Karl said it's just another game for the Nuggets. Anthony is treating it the same way for himself.

"I haven't been distracted all year by anything, everything that's going on, so I'm not going to let just one game like that," he said. "If anything I'll be excited, but I won't be distracted."

Shaq to miss second straight game for Celtics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Shaquille O'Neal will miss his second straight game as the Boston Celtics remain cautious with the big man's sore right calf.

Coach Doc Rivers announced at shootaround before Saturday's game against Charlotte that O'Neal would sit out. O'Neal said he was willing to take pain medication and play, but agreed with the decision to rest.

O'Neal says he'll "take these next couple days off and try to get it right." The 38-year-old added that Rivers "does a great job managing the old, antique cars."

O'Neal's absence leaves the Celtics limited in the middle with Kendrick Perkins out until February following knee surgery and Jermaine O'Neal sidelined with a sore left knee.

Semih Erden started at center in Thursday's win over Philadelphia.

New Jersey's James out with broken right foot

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Nets rookie forward Damion James is going to be sidelined with a broken right foot.

Nets coach Avery Johnson said Sunday before New Jersey's game against the Lakers that James broke the foot in the game against Dallas on Thursday. He woke up Friday with pain and X-rays and an MRI revealed the injury.

Johnson does not know how long James will be out. The former Texas product was averaging 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 17 games.

Bulls' Rose day-to-day with several injuries

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- One day after Derrick Rose went down in a heap at the United Center, the Chicago Bulls got some relatively good news.

Rose was listed as day-to-day Tuesday by the team after he suffered multiple injuries in a win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night. He has a sprained right wrist, a bruised right elbow and a sore right hip, but will travel with the team to Toronto for Wednesday's game against the Raptors.

"It was very tough last night getting to sleep," Rose said. "Right now, it's just a little sore. Hopefully I'll be playing tomorrow."

X-rays on the wrist after the game were negative and Rose said the hip was actually more sore than the wrist or elbow.

"My hip is really messed up," Rose said. "I just have to get treatment on the plane, and hopefully by tomorrow I'll be all right. If it's up to me, I'm going. If it's sore, usually I can play through soreness."

Rose did not participate in Tuesday's practice, but was shooting around -- left-handed -- when reporters were allowed to watch. Rose is a right-handed shooter.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said that he anticipates Rose will play against Toronto.

"He's a little nicked up," Thibodeau said. "His ankle is fine. He's got a little soreness in the elbow and a little soreness in the wrist. If he says he can play, he'll play. He's moving around pretty good today."

If Rose is unable to play, Thibodeau said C.J. Watson will start at point guard. Watson started for Rose (sore neck) at Denver on Nov. 26 and scored 33 points in a loss.

"The way this team has played all year is that if one person can't go, then someone else steps up," Thibodeau said. "C.J. has done a really good job for us."

Rose was hurt with just under two minutes left in the Bulls 92-73 win over the Pacers when he drove into the lane, jumped high in the air and tumbled over Indiana's Brandon Rush. He was able to finish the game.

Rose also has a sore left ankle, injured in a separate incident earlier in Monday's game. Despite the bumps and bruises, Thibodeau said he doesn't want Rose to change his style.

"I don't want him to change the way he plays," Thibodeau said. "I want him to attack."

The Bulls have won a season-high six straight games. Rose is fifth in the NBA with a 24.7 scoring average and his 8.3 assists per game rank ninth.

Rose was asked what went through his mind when he knew he was about to hit the floor.

"I thought 'This is going to hurt,"' Rose said, laughing. "I'm just happy and blessed that I didn't break anything."

Billups aggravates wrist injury, to miss game vs. Magic

DENVER (AP) -- Denver Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups will miss the game Tuesday night against the Orlando Magic after aggravating his sprained right wrist.

Billups played with a partially torn ligament in his shooting wrist for the last two weeks after injuring it against New Jersey on Nov. 20 when he collided with Nets forward Stephen Graham.

He sat out two games and returned Nov. 28, when he scored a season-high 25 points against Phoenix.

Billups aggravated the injury when he was hit during Denver's win in Toronto on Friday night. He was evaluated by a team doctor and a hand specialist Tuesday. He's listed as day-to-day.

Billups is averaging 14.4 points and 5.4 assists in 21 games this season.

Wizards' Yi leaves game with sprained right knee

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington Wizards forward Yi Jianlian will have an MRI on Wednesday on the right knee he sprained in the first quarter of Tuesday night's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

He was hurt while fouling Ron Artest during a layup and did not return to the game.

Yi was walking gingerly afterward and said the injury is on the "same spot" as the knee bruise that caused him to miss nine games earlier this season. He said it will probably "take some time" before he can play again.

Yi was acquired in an offseason trade with the New Jersey Nets. He is averaging 6.7 points per game.

The Wizards were already without point guard John Wall and forward Andray Blatche. Wall has tendinitis in his right knee, and Blatche was out with a sore left knee.

Yi had an MRI on Wednesday after he was hurt in the first quarter Tuesday night in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Acquired in an offseason trade with the New Jersey Nets, he's averaging 6.7 points.

Coach Flip Saunders says the Wizards also will likely have to make do without guard John Wall and forward Andray Blatche on Thursday night at New Jersey.

Wall has tendinitis in his right knee. The No. 1 overall pick has already missed eight games this season, mostly with left foot and left knee injuries.

Blatche has a sore left knee.
