Boozer sits out second straight practice with turf toe

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago Bulls forward Carlos Boozer sat out his second straight practice because of turf toe on his right foot.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said Saturday that Boozer was feeling better, but was ``not quite ready to go yet.'' The Bulls meet Atlanta in the Eastern Conference semifinals, with Game 1 Monday at the United Center.

Boozer has been getting treatment and lifting weights. He also did some shooting Saturday but was mostly a spectator again after sitting out practice the previous day.

The Bulls were off Wednesday and Thursday after knocking out Indiana 116-89 in Game 5 of their first-round series. The toe problem surfaced in the second quarter when he heard a pop while scoring his lone basket.

Rivers 'hopeful' Shaq will be back at practice Friday

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) -- The Boston Celtics hope to have Shaquille O'Neal back at practice on Friday.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said O'Neal would do a "skeleton'' workout on Thursday and "hopefully'' join the team on Friday for its final workout before Sunday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat.

O'Neal has played a total of 5 minutes, 29 seconds since Feb. 1 because of problems with his right calf and Achilles tendon.
The Celtics didn't need him in the first round, when they swept the New York Knicks in four games

Haslem continuing to improve for Heat

MIAMI (AP) -- Heat forward Udonis Haslem says he's hopeful of returning to the Miami lineup sometime this postseason.

Continuing his comeback following a ruptured foot ligament in November, Haslem went through another full practice with Miami on Tuesday. Haslem says there was less pain and soreness in his foot after the workout than he expected.

Haslem says he feels like his time is coming. He says he doesn't know when, ``but I definitely feel like it's coming.''

There is still no firm timetable for Haslem's potential return. He is not in Miami's plans for Game 5 of an Eastern Conference first-round series against Philadelphia on Wednesday.

If Miami advances, it could open the East semifinals against Boston this weekend.

Kobe Bryant left the arena after the game with the aid of crutches.

Could be more than a left ankle injury, but could be another Bryant drama.

McDyess expects to play in Game 4 despite sore neck

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- San Antonio center Antonio McDyess expects to play in Game 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night despite a neck nerve injury that forced him to leave Saturday night's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Meanwhile, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said he still is hindered a bit by an achy right elbow that caused him to miss Game 1 of the series that Memphis leads 2-1.

Grizzlies guard Tony Allen isn't so sure that Ginobili's elbow is hurting. Allen says Ginobili is playing so well, he wonders if the injury is real.

McDyess was injured with 2:56 left in the game Saturday night and was taken to the locker room before the end of Memphis' win. X-rays were negative, and the initial report was a strained neck. He showed up for practice Sunday smiling and moving much better after a night of rest and medication. He says the team's medical staff later described the injury as a compressed nerve.

"I feel a whole lot better," said McDyess as he prepared for practice.

Later when asked if he would be ready Monday night, McDyess replied: "No question. Even today, I think I would be ready."

Allen's comments about Ginobili came during the Grizzlies' media availability before the Spurs practiced. Ginobili injured the elbow in the last game of the regular season, and it forced him to miss the opening game of the postseason.

Ginobili said Sunday he continues to deal with soreness in the elbow, but never raised any question that he was ready to play a full complement of minutes for Game 4 on Monday night in Memphis.

Allen, who has guarded Ginobili, was the one raising questions about the San Antonio guard's injury.

"He ain't playing like his arm is hurt," Allen said Sunday morning. "I think that's all just for the birds right there. I don't think nothing's wrong with him."

Asked if he thought the bulky brace Ginobili has worn in Games 2 and 3 was for show, Allen said: "Yeah. I think so. He's playing amazing right now."

Ginobili seemed a bit surprised at Allen's statements. He laughingly acknowledged that he has been called a flopper, but not a faker.

"I really don't care," Ginobili said regarding Allen's comments. "I would like to not play with that brace. The previous years we've had pretty good runs without an elbow brace. It is what it is. Not a big deal."

McDyess' status uncertain for Game 4

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- San Antonio center Antonio McDyess hurt his neck and had to leave the game late in the Spurs' 91-88 loss to Memphis.

The center has a strained neck after X-rays Saturday night were negative. His status is day to day with the Spurs now trailing 2-1 in their opening round series. Game 4 is Monday night.

McDyess slumped down near midcourt with his teammates surrounding him with 2:56 left on the clock and Memphis up 86-82. Tim Duncan waved to the bench for help, and McDyess was helped to the bench. Then he went to the locker room.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich spoke to reporters so quickly after the game he said he didn't have an update on McDyess.

"It doesn't look good," he said.

Stoudemire's back worsens, unsure on Game 4

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- Amare Stoudemire says his back is worse and needs to feel better if he is going to play in Game 4 of the Knicks' series against Boston.

Stoudemire missed the second half of Game 2 on Tuesday with back spasms and was told the injury takes three weeks to heal. He played Friday night and struggled with seven points, shooting 2 of 8 in 33 minutes.

The All-Star forward says he was below 50 percent and was "pretty much in pain the whole game, from start to finish." Game 4 is Sunday afternoon, and Stoudemire says he wants to make a smart decision and not worsen the injury.

"If I feel better tomorrow, then we'll see how it goes," he said. "If not, then hopefully we still can get a win."
