  • Gallinari out up to 10 days with fractured big toe

DENVER (AP) -- The Nuggets will be without forward Danilo Gallinari for a week to 10 days after X-rays revealed that he had fractured his left big toe.

Gallinari stubbed his toe late in a loss to Portland on Friday night and was held out of Monday night's 100-90 victory over the Atlanta Hawks because of continuing soreness. Soon after beating Atlanta 100-90, the Nuggets announced that the toe was broken.

Gallinari scored 30 points against the Blazers, one shy of tying his career high.

The 22-year-old forward was acquired by the Nuggets in the blockbuster deal that sent Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks. He had two points in his debut with Denver last Thursday in a win over Boston.

Asked after morning practice if he could replace Anthony, Gallinari simply responded: "Melo is a superstar. I'm not a superstar. I'm a normal player that can help the team win. That's it."

The Hawks played Monday night without Kirk Hinrich (right calf strain) and lost Josh Smith midway through the game to a sore right knee following a second-quarter collision with J.R. Smith.

Josh Smith will be re-examined after the Hawks return to Atlanta.

"It was just real stiff. I couldn't move the way I wanted to," Josh Smith said after the game.

Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong were acquired by the Hawks last week in a deal that sent Mike Bibby, Maurice Evans, Jordan Crawford and a draft pick to the Washington Wizards.

Hinrich has played in two games for Atlanta since the trade. He had eight points in more than 29 minutes during a win at Portland on Sunday night.

Before the game, Hawks coach Larry Drew said Hinrich was "a little sore."

    • San Antonio can weather the storm with George Hill replacing TP. He had 18 points in his one game as a starter this season but in the his career, he averages 15 points (48%) and 3.6 assists as a starter in 51 games.

Everybody knew an injury was coming to San Antonio, right?
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

Coach Popovich will always be able to come up with a temporary solution and be able to find the right canididate to fill the gap once any player is injured...

Man if this injury didn't happen I think San Antonio would seriously be able to get 70 wins this season...(they can still go for it it even though it's a much tougher task now)

A full healthy Boston roster can get great awesome results as well.

Conclusion: Boston and San Antonio may be old but damn they've got amazing teams!!!

        • Thunder's Durant leaves game with sprained left ankle

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant was helped off the court after spraining his left ankle during the third quarter of the Oklahoma City Thunder's game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.

Durant collided with Indiana's Tyler Hansbrough on a drive to the basket with 2:44 left in the period and stayed in to hit his two free throws before leaving the game. Two trainers helped him walk through a tunnel toward the locker room.

The Thunder said Durant was not expected to return to the game.

          • Grizzlies' Henry out at least 4 weeks with sprained knee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Rookie guard Xavier Henry of the Memphis Grizzlies will be sidelined for at least the next four weeks as he continues rehabilitating a right knee sprain.

The team said Wednesday he will be re-evaluated after that time.

Henry has missed 12 games this season, including the last four, because of knee soreness.

The first-round pick in last year's draft is averaging 4.3 points and 1.0 rebound in 13.9 minutes in 38 games. He's had 16 starts.

            • Knicks' Billups out Wednesday night with bruised thigh

NEW YORK (AP) -- Point guard Chauncey Billups missed the New York Knicks' game against New Orleans on Wednesday night because of a bruised left thigh.

Billups was hurt when he banged into Magic center Dwight Howard in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' 116-110 loss in Orlando on Tuesday. The Knicks say it's too soon to determine Billups' status for their next game, at home Friday against Cleveland.

Billups scored 30 points before leaving with 2:13 left Tuesday and is averaging 23.3 in four games since arriving from Denver along with Carmelo Anthony in last week's blockbuster trade.

He said he felt better Wednesday after treatment, but was still limping noticeably before the game.

"I'm going to play when it feels good enough," Billups said. "I can't say when, but if I continue to get better every single day, I'm going to try to get out there as fast as I can."

Toney Douglas got the start at point guard for the Knicks. Billups said he wouldn't be able to watch from the bench because his dress clothes hadn't arrived yet, so he wouldn't be able to meet the NBA's dress code.

              • Hawks' Smith out with injury as Hinrich starts

ATLANTA (AP) -- Kirk Hinrich is making his first start for the Hawks in his first home game in Atlanta, but the team is without injured forward Josh Smith against the Chicago Bulls.

Smith is having an MRI on his right knee on Wednesday night. He hurt his knee in Tuesday night's loss at Denver and the team said he suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament.

The Hawks acquired Hinrich from Washington in a five-player trade last week as the team was playing seven straight road games.

Hinrich is starting with Joe Johnson in the backcourt. He was a reserve in his first two games with the Hawks as Jeff Teague started at point guard.

Jason Collins is starting for Smith.

                • Cavs' Davis out against San Antonio

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers guards Baron Davis and Daniel Gibson missed Wednesday night's game against San Antonio.

Coach Byron Scott wanted Davis, acquired Feb. 24 from the Los Angeles Clippers, to get at least one more practice with the team before playing in a game. The guard, who practiced Monday and Tuesday, is expected to play Friday against New York or Sunday against New Orleans.

Davis has been bothered all season by a sore left knee, but Scott said the lack of practice time is the reason he has yet to make his debut with the Cavaliers.

Gibson was out with a quad injury. The injury has bothered Gibson before this season, but he wasn't listed on the pregame injury report.

Both teams were short-handed going into the game. San Antonio guard Tony Parker is out for two to four weeks with a calf injury. Cleveland forward Antawn Jamison likely will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on a broken little finger on his left hand.

                  • Lakers' Fisher, Bobcats' Jackson out with injuries

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Charlotte Bobcats guard Stephen Jackson and Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher have been sidelined with injuries.

Neither player was expected to return to Friday night's game.

Fisher went to the Los Angeles locker room after bending his left elbow awkwardly in a tussle for a rebound with Charlotte's Kwame Brown. Fisher rolled on the court in pain before walking to the locker room with a sprained left elbow.

The Lakers' captain has played in 476 consecutive games, the NBA's longest active streak. Fisher had two points and two assists.

Jackson was sidelined by a strained left hamstring in the third quarter. He had eight points and two rebounds.

                    • Newly acquired Robinson out 4-6 weeks after knee surgery

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nate Robinson will miss four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Thunder general manager Sam Presti said Friday that Robinson first experienced discomfort in the knee after practice on Monday.

Presti says the Thunder's medical team and Robinson decided surgery was the best option "to resolve the issue with certainty.'' The team says the surgery was successful.

Oklahoma City acquired the 5-foot-9 Robinson on Feb. 24 in a trade with the Boston Celtics. Robinson made his debut for the Thunder on Wednesday, scoring six points in eight minutes.

                      • West leaves Hornets' game with ankle injury

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- New Orleans forward David West, the Hornets' leading scorer, has left the team's game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night with a sprained left ankle and will not return.

West, averaging 19.1 points per game, was hurt with 8:20 left in the first quarter. West had not scored at the time of the injury.

West initially went to the bench after the Hornets called timeout, but was later helped to the locker room.

The Kings said Whiteside had the operation on his partially torn patellar tendon Friday at the UC Davis Medical Center.

Whiteside will miss four to six months and should be available by the start of the next season's training camp.

                            • Clippers' Gordon reinjures right wrist after hard fall

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers scoring leader Eric Gordon left Saturday night's game against the Denver Nuggets in the second quarter after injuring his right wrist in a fall under the basket.

The guard was fouled hard by Timofey Mozgov on an attempted driving layup with 5:08 left before halftime and the Clippers leading 43-29.

Gordon wasn't able to make his free throws, which automatically made him ineligible for the rest of the game, and he was taken for X-rays.

It was Gordon's second game back in the lineup after missing the previous 18 with a sprained right wrist that had a small fracture in it. On Wednesday, he scored 24 points in a 106-103 victory that snapped Los Angeles' five-game losing streak.

                              Update:

Clippers' Gordon to sit out five-game road trip

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro is "optimistic" top scorer Eric Gordon will return this season after he aggravated a right wrist injury over the weekend that will keep him out indefinitely.

Del Negro said before Monday's game against Charlotte to open an East Coast swing that Gordon will likely remain in Los Angeles for the duration of the five-game trip. Del Negro said tests revealed no serious damage, but it's uncertain when he'll be able to play again.

"Let's just see how he responds to the therapy," Del Negro said. "It's his shooting hand, so it might make it a little more difficult. But all signs point to him returning. But when? That's another story."

Gordon was in his second game back after missing 18 with a sprained wrist that included a small fracture when he was hurt again in the second quarter Saturday on a hard foul by Denver's Timofey Mozgov.

"He's frustrated," Del Negro said of Gordon. "It's unfortunate, but luckily it wasn't worse."

Gordon is averaging 23.7 points. Randy Foye replaced him at shooting guard against the Bobcats, with rookie Eric Bledsoe also expected to see more minutes.

                              • Jazz's Millsap leaves game with left knee injury

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap has left a game against the Sacramento Kings in the third quarter with a knee injury. He will not return.

Millsap, who had 12 points and seven rebounds Saturday night, went to the locker room with 4:48 remaining in the quarter. He was diagnosed with a strained left patella tendon.

The power forward had left earlier in the period to get a brace refitted, but just more than a minute later he signaled to the bench that he couldn't continue.

Millsap averages 17.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He has been slowed by several nagging injuries, including a sprained thumb.

The Kings played without Omri Casspi, bothered by a stiff back in the hours before tipoff. Sacramento welcomed back Francisco Garcia after he missed 21 games due to a strained left calf.
