  • LeBron: Everyone gets spoiled by watching me do my thing

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5470162
"I love our fans. Cleveland fans are awesome," he told GQ. "But I mean, even my family gets spoiled at times watching me doing things that I do, on and off the court."
LeBron James told GQ magazine that those who burned his jersey in Cleveland probably "were never LeBron fans anyway.
But James, who announced on July 8 that he would leave the Cavaliers as a free agent to sign with the Heat, said of Gilbert's late-night letter: "I don't think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: 'You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You'll get a good sense of their character.' Me and my family have seen the character of that man."
All of a sudden Kobe appears to be very humble.

At least I don't think Kobe refers to himself in 3rd person.

I wonder if LeBron really believes what he said. I mean, I wonder what the context is. I guess LeBron revealed the "light" of his "character" when he crapped on Gilbert in a recent article.

Cavs legend Austin Carr on LeBron:
Cavs Unveil New Uniforms in Post-LeBron Era - By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer, August 18, 2010

Austin Carr fondly remembers his glory days playing guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1970s....

“We were 12 men deep,” Carr said as he helped the Cavs unveil new uniforms for 2010-11. “You knew every night we were going to play 100 percent. Nobody was going to quit.”

Realizing he had taken a shot at former Cavaliers’ star LeBron James, Carr raised his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders.

At this point, what else can be said?

....The Cavs insist they are trying to move on, but James was again in the news being quoted in an upcoming GQ interview that he feels Gilbert never cared about him and his hatred for Cleveland dates back to his days as a kid growing up in Akron.

Carr, who was the league’s No. 1 overall draft pick in 1971 and Cleveland’s first bona fide hoops star, remains disappointed in James’ departure. The two-time MVP announced his decision in a prime-time TV special, breaking the hearts of his biggest fans.

“As an ex-player, I might have left myself,” said Carr, a color analyst for the team. “So I don’t begrudge him for that. But the way he did it was unprofessional and uncalled for.”

...Although it seems the Cavs are trying to move on, James’ magazine interview has reopened the issue. He’s the one who can’t seem to let things go.

“That’s his problem,” said Carr, who cried unashamedly the night the Cavs won the NBA draft lottery and the rights to draft James. “Not ours.”
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

I'm not a Lebron fan (and from South Florida), but it seems like a lot of the complaints about him are foolish and petty. Sure, the way he handled things ("The Decision") was stupid, but he doesn't owe Gilbert, the city of Cleveland or the Caveliers anything.

If anything, this is going to make me root for the Heat harder and laugh at all the crybabies.

Yeah I agree. People crying over his decision is ridiculous. Honestly good for him, I mean dude wants a championship. Kinda wish I was still in FL again so I could go to more games.

Yeah, but LeBron hasn't given himself a nickname.

We may need a poll to decide which is worse.

Who do you think named his ass 'King' James? LeBron named LeBron that in honor of LeBron's exceptional ability. Dan GIlbert had it right: "self-proclaimed" king.

                  Douche. Bag. Period.

And Chris Paul and Carmelo are burying their chances to come out on top of all this with their silly antics this offseason. Trade demands and such? Blew it. Both of you.

Some of the players has actually imitated the so-called documentary of LeBron. Decision 2010? Give me a break!

That right! Nobody owns KING JAMES!

Besides, "The Decision" did raise money ($2.5 million) for a Youth Organisation so there was some good out of it.

One thing I am looking forward to with THE KING is whether or not he is able to do what only The Big O was able to do ... average a triple double for the whole season. I think it's possible because when he was the man for the Cavs he was only an average of 2 rpg and 2 apg away from that record, thus, when he's on a team where there is no need to carry the offensive load of the team he can focus on the other two aspects: passing and rebounding that will allow him to possibly reach this record.

Well, he can be the designated point forward for the Heat.

You're right. He does not owe Cleveland or the team anything. Certainly Gilbert is not his owner (I kind of agree with what Jesse Jackson said).

I'm kind of upset that he quit those last two games of the play-offs. At the time, lots of media-types said "well, if he leaves Cleveland, he's going to look awful. But he's probably staying, so that means he really was trying." Well, he left. And it became clear that he didn't try very hard those last two games. I hold a little grudge for that. At the time, he was playing with the media and making these games like he really wasn't sure where he would go. In retrospect, it looks like there was collusion between him, Bosh, and Wade, and perhaps the Heat's management. (Those collusion rules are kind of silly in any event).

So...I don't like what he did at the end of the season and I don't like the games he played with the media (which the media let him do...they wanted him to use them for his own publicity).

And yes, you're right, the things we're complaining about now are petty.

But gosh darnit, we were this (my thumb and index finger are almost touching) close!!!

BOO at you bandwagon-jumpers living in/from South Florida. The point is not about LeBron's basketball abilities. Nor about his legitimate decision to choose a team he wants to play for. It's about the man's arrogance which is the result of the ongoing unprecedented hype ever since he was 16 years old. I think Dan Gilbert sounds like a sore loser too (especially with the "Cleveland will win a championship before LeBron" comment...) but LeBron totally justified the hate towards him. Yeah he may finally win a ring in Miami (not sure though) but remember how many Kobe already has. "King without Crown" or "without clothes"?
