  • NBA regular season games to be played in London next year.

    ...That's the good news.

The bad news is it's the Nets vs the Raptors.

It seems the NBA wants to honor their promise of regular season games before the 2012 olympics, but doesn't want to cost any marquee teams important home games.

Pistons: 2021-22 Let the Motorcade begin!!

Bronze medal 2013 Eurobasket prediction Game.

Yeah that seems pretty weak of the league. I don't really believe this does much to grow the game on the European continent. If the NBA sent a couple marquee teams or at least teams with marquee players then it would have made some headlines but with these teams I'm not sure it will do much.
Its kind of like how Real Madrid (football) just came over and played some pre-season games in California. I only spoke to a few people that even knew they were playing a game here in the Bay ARea but I guarantee that if a team like Bilbao or whoever came over no one would have known.

Not really a fan of the New Jersey Nets but I do like decently the International players on the Toronto Raptors roster.

Well I think they're relying on the added emphasis on it being a regular season game to make up for the fact the teams suck.

The Lakers at least are going there for preseason.

That's true. I forgot about the fact that the Raptors have a lot of Europeans on the roster so that would be a draw. But I don't think anyone in England is going to care that much that non-British Europeans from the NBA are playing in their country. But maybe I'm wrong.

I agree, had it been the San Antonio Spurs with Ryan "The English Beast" Richards vs Chicago Bulls with Luol Deng would have piqued more interests from the London population.

If the NBA is trying to break into the British market, these are two of the most unattractive teams they could've picked as ambassadors. Since Toronto has an international line-up, it would've made sense to send them if the game were played on the European mainland (the Jersey pick makes no sense either way). I somehow doubt the average fan is going to get excited over Brooke Lopez or Andrea Bargnani. Only London's hardcore NBA fans will appreciate this match-up. Boston, Miami, Atlanta or Orlando would've been better choices.

Maybe they watched some footage of the games between PAO and Olympiakos and decided that it's not worth the risk
