This will be the first full season for Charlotte Bobcats Majority Owner Michael Jordan as Jordan, acknowledging his love for the game, can't be taken out of the picture. One of Jordan's strength is the motivation to succeed after a failure and Jordan's so-so stint as President of Operations (later Player) for the Washington Wizards has lead him eventually to North Carolina, to take charge of the Charlotte Bobcats.

My Charlotte Bobcats starting-lineup for the 2010-2011 Season

    C Erick Dampier
*Dampier will bring the same toughness that Kendrick Perkins brings to the Celtics. Great pick-up by the Charlotte Bobcats, trading for injury prone Tyson Chandler for a veteran and defensive center in Dampier.

    F Tyrus Thomas
*Bobcats project player as there is a reason why the Bobcats have fended off the advances of New Jersey and New York for Thomas. Thomas is more than your average power forward, he can score and defend.

    F Gerald Wallace
    * Wallace brings defense, hustle and athleticism on the perimeter. Finished second in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year to Dwight Howard. Wallace can bring you 18-10-2-2-2 (ppg-rpg-apg-spg-bpg)

    G Stephen Jackson
    * The main scorer and co-captain with Wallace for the team. Jackson brings veteran leadership on the wings.

    G DJ Augustin
*After the departure of Raymond Felton, Augustin will be starting at the point since the Jose Calderon trade did not push through. Augustin and Jackson provides scoring and shooting on the wing.

I would like to mention Gerald Henderson, a shooter and potentially a starter in the future.

Sherron Collins, the back-up point guard for Augustin. Collins can score, really underrated.

Thanks for the comment CKR13. I'm looking forward for this team to duplicate their success last season. They should improve their 7th place finish in EC.

No problem! This thread will not be buried while I'm around.

By the way, I heard that the Bobcats are currently negotiating with veteran guard Larry Hughes and are close to re-signing Hughes for the Qualifying Veteran Minimum of Two Years. Hughes would bring added defense to the Bobcats; and besides, Hughes and Michael Jordan are friends.

No Starters in Bobcats Deal, but Possibly Some Finishers
July 19, 2010 by Steve Martin

Photo by NBAE / Getty Images

The Bobcats five-player deal with Dallas has some points for the Bobcats off the floor, as well as on.

The often talked about 13 million dollar non-guaranteed salary for center Erick Dampier is an obvious benefit. In obtaining it for Tyson Chandler’s guaranteed 12.75 million dollar deal, the Bobcats can shed the contract before training camp begins. With Chandler, the relief doesn’t come until next season.

Matt Carroll returns to a Bobcats team that was painfully shy of the 3-point line last season. The Bobcats were exposed in the playoffs as a team of scorers instead of shooters. The difference is, shooters make points happen quickly. Scorers may have an edge in accuracy, but the time it takes for them to finish their work successfully and often takes a toll in extra passes and overall ball movement. There is a reason that the Bobcats were near the top of the league in turnovers and it relates to the amount of time they had to move the ball for a successful shot. Matt Carroll is not the total answer to this problem, but his familiarity with the Bobcats mission coupled with his skill set does put a marksman at Larry Brown’s call when needed.

Coach Brown is not a coach who will pin his hopes and offense on a 3-point specialist. Such players are “soldiers-of fortune” in Brown’s way of thinking. He clearly prefers multi-tasking players who have a resume that includes defensive tendencies and a feel for overall team play.

During a teleconference last Friday with the three players, I asked Eduardo Najera why teams tend to bring him back. He laughed and sort of shrugged it off, so I called a friend with the Mavericks, radio play-by-play voice Chuck Cooperstein, and asked why teams like Denver, Dallas and New Jersey all brought him back a second time. Chuck says that while Najera may not be the most talented player on your team, he makes up for it with hustle. There isn’t a defensive matchup that he’ll shy away from. Earlier in his career with Denver (the first time), Najera honed his shooting skills and actually had some accuracy from behind the stripe. He fought off back injuries last season which held him back in that regard. Cooperstein calls Najera a great teammate, which explains his why the Nets, Mavs and Nuggets all had no problems taking a second chance.

Dampier has value in excess of his contract. The Bobcats could waive him and then re-sign him to a lesser deal. The 13 million dollar salary hole would still be in the Bobcats favor minus the money needed to re-sign Dampier. Two centers went West in this transaction, leaving the Bobcats dependent on Nazr Mohammed and DeSagana Diop.

The other shoe has yet to drop on what this transaction means for the future. But the first step is very encouraging.

Larry Brown will coach for one more season and after that perhaps joining the management staff.

Also, the Bobcats should re-sign Desagana Diop as he and Erick Dampier were good friends during their Dallas Mavericks days where the duo were the best tag team defensive bigmen in 2006 and both guys don't care if the other starts or how much minutes are allocated between them. One of the reasons why Dampier ok'd the trade from Dallas to Charlotte and is willing to be waived and re-signed for less.

Guard Matt Carroll has a second stint with the Charlotte Bobcats after being traded in 2009 to the Dallas Mavericks. Maybe this time, Carroll will stay for good as the Bobcats need another shooter off the bench after Stephen Jackson.

Carroll's best playing years were with the Bobcats from 2005 to 2009.
