So celtics - lakers or any other american rivalry? pfff... not even top50...get your facts right[/B]
i agree. while i love watching lakers and celtics there's at least 20-30 better and more passionate rivalries in europe alone (partizan vs. red star anyone?)

of course. i don't disagree with that. and i don't like hooliganism. it was just an example to disprove that american rivalries can be compared to (some) european ones. i don't approve nor do i like the situation.

@ the one who posted the video of the yankees - red sox rivalry to prove it is bigger than anything: in many euro derbies fans of opposite teams are not allowed to be sitting in the same stands. In 90% of the times rival fans are not even allowed in the stadium of the home team.

sorry but that's not a valid excuse

rugby 7's last a couple of minutes and is not in there either. Besides a Cricket Twenty20 game can be completed in about three (some sports last more than that and are still in)

    My opinion ...

Personally, I see the rivalry outside the top 10.

The tradition, history, intensity and obsession in other rivalries that I have seen in football (the real one), especially in South America by far out weighs the rivalry of the Celtics-Lakers.

    My personal favourites:

    1. Nacional vs Penarol (Uruguay)
    2. Real Madrid vs Barcelona (Spain)
    3. River Plate vs Boca Juniors (Argentina)
    4. Club America vs Chivas (Mexico)
    5. Universidad de Chile vs Colo Colo (Chile)

It is crime to call baseball as a sport activity.

oh, about thread...no way any nba game could ever enter top 10 rivalries in world.

The Celtics-Lakers rivalry is nothing compared to the Panathinaikos-Olympiakos rivalry

I don't know anything about soccer or baseball rivalries, so, for me, this is probably one of the biggest rivalries in sports, although I hate both the Lakers and the Celtics.

The problem with NBA rivalries is that they play too often. Each team plays at least twice a year and players move so often from team to team that the competitive edge becomes somewhat dull.

I wouldn't say clearly with Japan. Baseball is still hugely popular over there. Every source I've seen has it either number #1 or too close to call.

That said the 2 billion number is hard to swallow, especially if you're only counting nations where it's most popular. By that logic you can't even count the United States.

I still don't buy this number. Are you saying 2.2 billion (that's 1/3 of the world) watches baseball as their #1 sport? You can't be serious. Baseball outside America is only played in places like Cuba, Dominican Republic, Taiwan, and even in Japan and South Korea football clearly is #1. So educate me on how you got the number.

that has nothing to do with being popular, baseball is not in the Olympics because The Olympics are control by Europeans who only care about European games and politics

cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world, but it is not in the Olympics ( and please let's not get into the Cricket is not a sport but a game argument pls)

actually sinobbal is you look at the tv ratings, baseball is up there with soccer, basketball, rugby, cricket, handball and hockey. among the most watched sports in the world. surpassing sports other really popular sports like Volleyball, water polo and tennis

being in the Olympics doesn't mean that a sport is popular these days, it's all about the anti-American and anti-Latin American bias. After all how many people really do Equestrian or even watch it, and that crap is actually in the Olympics
