  • Kobe, Lebron named to NBA All-Defensive Team

    2009-10 NBA All-Defensive Team

    First Team

    Center Dwight Howard(Orlando)
    Guard Rajon Rondo(Boston)
    Forward LeBron James(Cleveland)
    Guard Kobe Bryant(L.A. Lakers)
    Forward Gerald Wallace(Charlotte)

    Second Team

    Center Tim Duncan(San Antonio)
    Guard Dwyane Wade(Miami)
    Forward Josh Smith(Atlanta)
    Forward Anderson Varejao(Cleveland)
    Guard Thabo Sefolosha(Oklahoma City)

OK I can see Kobe and Lebron on the All-NBA Team, but all-defensive too? Where is this guy?

But Howard, Rondo and Wallace were also named to defensive team. Why you named the tread "Kobe, Lebron named to NBA All-Defensive Team"?

Simply put because I think these 2 shouldn't be on the 1st defensive team.

I went to basketball-reference.com and checked their "Defensive rating" stat for this season. Using the criteria of a minimum of 62 games, I got the following ranking:

      1. D Howard
      2. A Bogut
      3. M Gortat
      4. L Odom
      5. K Thomas
      6. G Wallace
      7. R Wallace
      8. D Blair
      9. M Camby
      10. T Duncan
      11. K Garnett
      12. S Ibaka
      13. J Noah
      14. K Perkins
      15. J Smith
      ...
      20. L James
      21. A Varejao
      ...
      35. R Rondo
      ...
      38. K Bryant
      ...
      55. T Sefolosha

OK this is not scientific for many reasons, but I think it's the best statistical rating out there. It's highly skewed towards the big men but that's to be expected. But even adjusting for positions, some of these players are not at the top, particularly Lebron.

But I do admit Artest was even worse on that ranking (57th)... perhaps he and Sefolosha were always tasked to guard the star players, like Wade, Durant, Carmelo and Granger...

You have the point. Well if Kobe and LeBron in All Defensive player list most of people don't bother to analyze all players, in other words NBA benefits more if LeBron and Kobe is mentioned.

BTW impressive video. I don't like NBA because it is just entertainment circus, but Artest D is great to watch

Camby still going strong. G.O. is a top 5 acc to that gauge for the 20 games he played during the regular season. Imagine a frontcourt with Camby-Oden...an altered regeneration of the twin towers - this time in red and black? There would be no easy lay-ups in that paint.
