  • Highest-scoring games in NBA history

Last night the Phoenix Suns scored an NBA season high 152 points against Minnesota - in regulation. I'm pretty sure that a team has scored more points at some point - likely in an overtime game, but what is the record for points scored by a single team in a regulation game? Thanks.

Check the other thread, there was someone who scored 188 in a game by himself.

But if you are talking about NBA, according to wikipedia:
Most points in a game - regulation

    * 173 by the Boston Celtics vs. the Minneapolis Lakers on February 27, 1959[14]
    * 173 by the Phoenix Suns vs. the Denver Nuggets on November 10, 1990
    aim low, score high

i once scored 182 points using the Seattle Sonics against my friend's Los Angeles Lakers way back when NBA 2K3 (on PS2) was the fad. The game ended after quadruple overtime with a score of 203-201 in favor of the Sonics.

      Does that count?

But on a more serious note:

March 16, 2008 -- The Denver Nuggets set a franchise record for most points scored in a regulation game in Sunday's 168-116 rout over the Seattle Sonics. The mark is also a league season high, surpassing the total Denver accumulated in Seattle earlier this season (138).

The 168 points collected by the Nuggets is the fourth most in NBA history in regulation time. The Boston Celtics racked up 173 points against the Minneapolis Lakers on February 27, 1959 as did the Phoenix Suns against the Nuggets on November 10, 1990.

The most points scored in a game all-time is 186, which was set by the Detroit Pistons in 1983 when they defeated the Nuggets in triple overtime.
      RANK TEAM OPPONENT POINTS DATE
      T-1 Boston Minneapolis 173 2/27/1959
      T-1 Phoenix Denver 173 11/10/1990
      3 Philadelphia New York 169 3/2/1962
      4 Denver Seattle 168 3/16/2008
      5 Cincinnati San Diego 165 3/12/1970

            Highest-scoring games in NBA history

On November 2, 1990 - Golden State spoiled Nuggets coach Paul Westhead's debut by registering a 162-158 road decision over Denver. The previous record was Denver's 163-155 home victory over San Antonio on January 11, 1984.

The NBA single-team scoring standard for one game was set by Detroit in a 186-184 triple-overtime victory at Denver on December 13, 1983. The high mark in regulation was posted by Boston in a 173-139 success against Minneapolis on February 27, 1959.

A week after Golden State's road win over Denver, On November 10, 1990 - Phoenix Suns registered a 173-143 home victory over Denver, to set NBA records, most points in one half, (107) vs the Nuggets' 67, breaking the previous first-half standard of 90 set by Denver at San Antonio three days earlier on Nov.7 and the one-half mark of 97 posted by Atlanta at San Diego on February 11, 1970 in the second half. most points in the second quarter (57) shattering Baltimore's 52 vs Detroit on December 18, 1965.

Unbelievable but true but did you know that the run-and-gun Denver Nuggets in their first five pre-season games of the 1990-1991 NBA wars allowed the opposition to average 171 points, four of them were losses - while scoring 145 points themselves each time.

            October 11 - lost to Phoenix, 186-123
            October 13 - lost to Houston, 156-126
            October 17 - lost to Atlanta, 194-166
            October 19 - lost to Boston, 174-154
before beating New York, 156-145 on October 22. The Nuggets finished with a 2-6 pre-season record scoring 143.9 ppg while allowing its foes to norm 163.6 ppg.
