  • 1,000 Attendance At NBA Game

Now if this would be a Euroleague team, NBA fans would very strongly bash and make fun of it. Also the claim is always made that such things never have happened in the NBA before.

    Visual evidence:

Also, Europeans often point out that one of the huge reasons why attendance figures in the NBA appear to be so much higher than Euroleague attendance numbers is because in the NBA they don't actually count attendance. They count ticket sales.

NBA does not actually even list attendance. Those are not attendance figures. What the NBA cleverly lists are ticket sales, unlike the Euroleague which lists attendance. Funny how Bertomeu hasn't figured that marketing gimmick of Stern's yet and copied it.

Basically for example game after game the Grizzlies or Heat will play in front of 4,000-5,000 fans yet the NBA attendance shows up as 15,000-18,000. Even though anyone watching can see the arenas are almost empty. But somehow the marketing gimmick of Stern's works, and all you ever hear about is how the NBA has so much more attendance than the Euroleague. But in reality, in the Euroleague those games would be listed at the 4,500 attendance. That's why the whole NBA-Euroleague attendance thing is actually a complete joke to anyone that knows the facts and doesn't believe the NBA marketing gimmick.

Anyone with NBA league pass knows those attendance numbers from the NBA are a joke. I remember watching a Rockets game and they gave 19,000 or something for attendance and the arena was literally 2/3s empty.

Now if Europeans bring this up they are called liars and that's it not true and that the NBA just has that much attendance. It is also denied that the NBA counts ticket sales for attendance instead of actual attendance (something that's probably not even legal BTW and no other sports league that I know of does that).........................

anyway this now also proves what Europeans said all along - that NBA attendance numbers are fake. See for yourself:

Watch NBA Games - Follow the game, scores and stats for NBA matchups.

    Attendance: 12873

Box score for the Milwaukee Bucks vs. New Jersey Nets NBA game from February 10, 2010 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

    Attendance: 12,873

    Attendance: 12,873

Now I and other Europeans have brought this up before when people laugh at Euroleague attendance as compared to NBA "attendance" and every time you get called a liar. Well I feel vindicated. Sooner or later you knew this would happen. We now have irrefutable PROOF that the NBA's attendance numbers are fake. This just further proves IMO how much of a gigantic myth the whole NBA vs. Euroleague thing really is.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It was a sad sight in a sorry season.

In front of about 1,000 fans, the New Jersey Nets lost for the 48th time before the All-Star break, trounced 97-77 by the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.

New Jersey happends to be one of the worst teams in NBA history going against a Milwaukee team that's sorry in its own right, so common sense would dictate that anyone looking to be entertained isn't going to shell out their hard earned money when they know the outcome of the game before the national anthem is sung.

Factor in extremely bad weather, a poor economy, other entertainment options in the New York metro area and fan apathy--knowing the team is going to be relocated to Brooklyn within a few years--and you have a recipe for 1,000 fans showing up.

At least acknowledge the factors before you comment on it.

As far as the $35-$45 tickets. You can go to the ticket purchaser and see that most tickets were selling from $1-$4.

As for the weather, that does not explain how the New Jersey Devils hockey team had a near sold out arena at their hockey game. And besides bad weather is common for many teams in both the NBA and the Euroleague.

You mean to say that Russian clubs don't have bad weather for instance?

We're not talking about 2 inches of snow. We're talking about several feet of snow in an abnormally snowy winter, so why in the hell would anybody risk life and limb to watch an atrocious team lose?

Have you actually visited the New York area before? I have, and even on a bright, shiny summer's day the traffic is horrific in a 30 mile radius, so add snow to the equation and it's a nightmare getting around.

Furthermore, in your rush to make your point, you conveniently ignored the other factors I pointed out. I didn't say it was just weather. All of those factors combined influence the attendence.

Why are you comparing the Devils to the Nets? The Devils are a competitive team, second in their division, so logically, people are going to gravitate and support a team that actually provides entertainment and win more often than lose. Does that seem confusing?

Blizzard conditions 30 inches (over two feet) projected + potentially the worst team in NBA History + lousy opponent = not a huge surprise.

Comparing them to the Devils is just foolish, the Devils might actually win the cup this year, while the Nets would be ecstatic to win 10 games.

To FIBA Euro, You do realize this is the New Jersey Nets team that will be transferring to a new stadium (Brooklyn, i believe) after 2010?

This has been discussed ad nauseum and is not surprise news at all. Fans have left them already and with the way the team is going this year (total tanking for John Wall) this was in a way expected.

i expect you to post the attendance record AFTER they transfer. Or are you not objective enough to do that?
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

I think what our dear friend FEB is trying to point out is not why only 1000 fans attended the Nets game (absolutely justified in my opinion given how bad that team is) but the fact that NBA is messing with the attendance stats.

They have almost 13000 fans listed as attendance while we clearly see from the pictures and the article that the fans were about 1000.

Yup, NBA does that. But its 12000 paid (reserved) tickets i'd assume? And they can't come because of various factors? Season tickets, probably?

FEB is trying to put down the league (as always and as expected) that's why any post from him is immediately suspected of negativity towards the NBA.

That would be justified if it said "ticket sales" in the boxscore, but it says "attendance"

This is a fair point, and absolutely true. If FEB's had left it at that, instead of going on his usual rant about a massive conspiracy to make Euroleague look bad, then he'd probably have more agreement.

The OP thinks a lot of people care about a fictional NBA vs Euroleague fantasy. funny huh?

No worries though, If Barca taps PAO's ass tonight I doubt he'll have much time for anymore crusades against the NBA. Go Partizan as well, I guess the other fan is replacing the Putin guy .

Would the New Jersey Nets make the Euroleague top 16? Probably & that's even more pathetic than then snowstorm attendance eh?
