But Australia will win this Semis and the Silver.

Then US or Spain for the Gold. The loser in that semis is sure Bronze.

If Australia won't win this, they has a great chance to repeat it's historical success of finishing 4th everytime they're in Olympic semis. But I hope it won't be the case, I need them to make a final, to guarantee 1st place in prediction game among my friends and win 2 beer-boxes (20 each), so don't screw up ffs, I love beer too much to put it all in jeopardy and wait for final day

This American believes that Aus is a bigger threat than Serbia. Still Serbia can not be taken lightly. IMHO the order of threats is. 1. Australia 2. Spain 3. Serbia. All these teams can beat this Team USA. I think Spain has a 50/50 chance to win today.

If the same results occur every incident (e.g. every time they lose in the semis, they lose in the battle for 3rd) for a marked period of time, that is a trend. It does not matter if the competition is annual, bi-annual, every 2 years, or every 4 years.

But I agree with you. Spain and US will get the gold and the bronze. And I am hoping it to be in that order.

Call it what you want but Australia has historically not been good in this spot. Blowout losses to Yugoslavia in '88, France on their home court in '00 and the USA in '96.

In math it would be a trend, but I think in sports, it's just inaccurate to call some results a trend, especially when it happens with such big interval of time. Circumstances changes too much in 4 years cycle - players, coaches might change, rivals are different, even locations matters. Anyway, everyone can call it as they want,doesn't matter, I just hope for Aussies to win and me have a beer already tomorrow
