You try to explain to someone new to the game that the two best teams in the world were playing in the biggest possible stage. Team USA defence was so poorly executed you'd think they came to Rio without a coach. Many times the player with the ball was left alone. As in, everyone thought he had other assignment, so, why bother. It'd hilarious if it weren't because Spain failed to capitalise on those silly mistakes every single friggin' time.

And Team USA offence is so frustrating. 1-on-5 every other possession. They friggin' took turns to friggin' shoot the friggin' basketball, without even caring to fake a friggin' pass. It would be hilarious if it weren't because it worked. They made enough contested shots to keep the lead. And when they failed, they had 2nd and even 3rd chances to score. For stretches, it looked like a friendly game. There was no fire, no pressure. USA had enough with some shots falling and some defensive stops to keep the lead, so there was no need for extra effort. You've got to point the finger to Spain, of course. They never really challenged. Missed too many shots, took too many bad decisions. They looked flat and careless. The turning point was that stupid, stupid Rodríguez offensive foul on Jordan. Had he kept his hand to himself, he'd have put Spain down 7 with more than two minutes and a half left. That sounds like a chance.

As a Spanish fan, the only positive note I can come up with is that I will be able to tell my grandsons I saw Víctor Claver outplay Kevin Durant once. That's not much, I agree, but beggars cannot be choosers.
i too was wondering during the game where the coach USA was and which recommendations was he giving during the game. A completely anarchic and really ugly game. Spain should only have grabbed more rebounds OR they should have made more successful 3pt shoots, not both in order to win.

That's this Team USA for you. They have two groups of players: those that shoot even the sneakers if needed and a couple of cavemen to grab the offensive rebounds. Seeing Cousins with a gold medal will make me cringe.

I am surprised you say that about Cousins, I would have thought that you watched the '14 World Cup since it was played in your country. But anyway, yeah I think the USA should implement a sophisticated, intricate offense instead of relying on their individual talents. Maybe then they can produce some better results.
Oh wait, they haven't lost a freakin game in a decade.

I often cringe at the way people describe team USA. The cavemen line just rubs me the wrong way. But yeah what they do works for them. They aren't going to win by doing it the same way as everyone else.

I think most of the credit for Team USA goes for perimeter players including Durant. I know it's a matter of preferences, but i really dislike that kind of centers that depend only on their physicality and don't precisely move like ballerinas. He would be better if he received some classes from Simon Biles. Apart from that, i prefer players with a bigger basketball IQ than Cousins and DeAndre Jordan.

I knew that Argentinians are a bit arrogants, but what I have been reading that days, americans are also very arrogants. Todays Cousins seemed an average ACB player, Willy also put him in troubles. How I said before, USA plays with 6 players, and that 6 players are the best of the bests.

I prefer good ball movements, looking for the best option and attacking the basket when you can. To see a player catching the ball and trying to score without seeing any of his mates, I go to the park to see the street basketballers.

I was responding to the poster saying he would cringe if Cousins had a gold medal. That's silly. He played well in '14 and has shown that he is gold medal worthy. No cringing needed.

That has to do with personal preferences as i said. Other people also criticise Gasol and his style of play and/or performance with a wordplay and nothing happens.

But we are in 2014 or 2016? If Cousins had played more, the USA would have lost this match. Ricky Rubio also scored 60 points in a tournament 10 years ago, and we don't say that he is a great scorer.

                      This.

Why should they not play with their strengths which are using their speed and athleticism. At this stage, especially with USA, winning it all is what matters. They are not over there for development . If they want to be aesthestically pleasing then they could have hire someone like Pete Carril and implement a movement type of Princeton offense and get players that are right fit for that system. You don't fix something that it's not broken.
