  • Belgrade OQT Group B Day 1: Japan - Latvia

The Hayabusa (Peregrine Falcons) of Japan squares off against Latvia.

Japan has been competitive in its tune-up games; their biggest loss was 19 points against World #5 France. Kosuke Takeuchi is back on the lineup for Japan, while his twin brother Joji and guard Makoto Hiejima has been coming out big for the Hayabusa.

Meanwhile, Dairis Bertans has come out big for Latvia in place of his brother Davis, while Latvia is favored to win this game and possibly even make an upset against heavy favorites Serbia in the playoffs.

What kind of reports are you looking for regarding Davis or Porzingis? As you wrote it yourself - Davis is out, while Porzingis withdrew also, long time ago. So both won't be there. Obviously big blow for Latvia. It's basically the same team Latvia made it to 1/4 of Eurobasket last year. It'll be enough to beat Japan, most likely easily, but not to win it all

Utter destruction of Japan. Their play is too wild and lots of turnovers. Latvia playing great on D and executing perfectly on offense..

Hasegawa was right to call in the towel early. Japan had no chance with them shorter and less skilled.

It is rather too cautious game that made them problems. Later on they tried to improve it with more individual actions but it was too late, Latvians were in control at those moments.
