So which players would you guess are most likely to end up on the Philippines team's roster for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila?

What do you think of the Philippines' chances of qualifying against the likes of France, Turkey, Canada and New Zealand?

Yes, precisely. It's all being posted in the Philippines sub-forum. And as a result the Phiippines is the only participant in the qualifying tournaments that doesn't have its own thread in this sub-forum! It was to rectify that deficiency that I started this thread.

Barring any injuries; Castro, Blatche, Fajardo and Norwood are locks. Gilas does have an optimist's chance of making it past the group stage. It also helps that some players are unavailable for the opposing NTs.

Yes. A win over France would be very good!

If we're talking about chances, I'm confident that with all the circumstances right now (players unavailability), Gilas is in the top 3 of the Manila leg. 33% chance to go to Rio.

              France - 50
              Turkey - 25
              Philippines -15
              New Zealand - 10

Lets face it France is much favored to win this leg, just like Serbia..

I think France is an even stronger favourite than 50%. I'd assess the odds of qualifying in the group this way:

                France ~ 65%
                Turkey ~ 15%
                Philippines ~ 10%
                New Zealand ~ 7%
                Canada ~ 3%
                Senegal ~ 0%

Pretty accurate, but wouldn't agree that New Zealand has better chances than Canada. Tall Blacks are also weakened, not as much as Canada of course, but from what's left, Canada still has more class in its dissposal. Alone Cory Joseph lifts them up over Kiwis. But overall, both has ok starters, but really short and inexperienced bench, that will surely cost them Olympic hopes.
Of course after it was announced all the rosters and with Canada, Turkey coming with big losses, France is big favorite even without Gobert, Fournier. I'd put their chances even up to some 80%. They'd beat all other teams 8 out of 10 times for sure. Then goes Turkey, Philippines, Canada in no particular order. New Zealand without Adams, Penney, Senegal without Dieng are chanceless

I agree with this assessment at this time. I think the Philippines on home soil could even beat Turkey, but most likely not France.
Rumors of some names that could still be added to Canada, there is strong belief that the roster they announced is not the one they submitted to FIBA. Tristan Thompson is a possibility along with a couple of the better Euro based guys like Khem Birch.
Still the team is an unorganized mess right now. No chance of winning but with a couple added players they wont be the pushover we seem right now.

Its not that we really entirely sold on that lineup but adding Thompson in the lineup in that limited time frame would be a gamble..

Too bad Jordan Clarkson won't be able to do the same for us come July because the Lakers are chasing for Kevin Durant so he isn't assured of a contract until that happens.
