i'm very confident about Usa this year for one reason only.Lebron,he's just a different beast right now,10 levels above any other player and he'll step up if needed in the final games. He's just a joy to watch nowadays.

I don't like the guy but I agree with you. He does it all. With him running the point it's almost unguardable.

I like what Doc Rivers said in the post game: "Team USA had faced inner adversity from within early in the game where they settled for jumpshots rather than play aggressive."

I feel Team USA will peak at the right time.

I think they will too. Each game they play better.

“We played a very good game against an outstanding team.

“France is so well coached and in (Tony) Parker they have as good a guard as there is in the tournament.

“I thought we did a good job defensively and we shared the ball.

“We assisted on 27 of our 31 buckets and we rebounded the ball very well.

“Overall it was a good first step for us beating an outstanding French team."
I like what caoch K is saying!

I see you are finally getting with the program and realizing the obvious

I just saw the game on my DVR. The US performance was underwhelming to say the least. I almost got the sense that France conceded this game knowing that Argentina and Lithuania would pose their most serious threat to advance. The French basically shot themselves out of the game while the US continued to look pedistrian and unorganized on offense. The lone shining light was that we finally got some production from our bigs, which we're going to need as the tournament progresses.

The officiating, as is normally the case with FIBA, was atrocious and wildly inconsistent for both sides. Because of that, the game played out like the tenor of a busted saxophone and was in stark contrast to the free flowing games that BRA-AUS and LTU-ARG got to enjoy. It was painful at times watching France and the US slug it out, but in the end, the US won so I'm content with the result. Thankfully, the US caught a break in the schedule as Tunisia and Nigeria are next up (Although Nigeria could very well be the third or fourth seed out of this bracket) before entering the heart of the tournament. Overall, I give the US's performance a B-.

LOL! If that program is that the USA will continue to improve through group stage and be almost unbeatable by the medal round then yes! It comes down to no team seems like they can defend USA for 40 minutes. While USA seems to be able to defend every team they've played. I heard coach K quoted as saying if his players defend well he would allow them to be liberal with the offense.

Yes team USA is hard to watch at times. Some times its just awful. I hold on to the fact the offense is getting a little better each game. The defense is great yet still improving. I like that the USA tries to score early in the shot clock. I don't like when they are forced to play slower half court game they chuck up a 3pt or long 2pt. They need to treasure every possession. Set more screens and picks for each other. More motion and less impatient chucking. Did you see the Argentina vs Lietuva game? Argentina played a beautiful game. It was a master class in basketball theory. On both ends of the ball.

If you can handle the US bench (meaning you have a deep enough rotation, say 8-9 guys who can really compete) then you have a chance in winning against them. This French team has ZERO bench so the result was obvious. Spain and Argentina are watching they know they can't out play the starters so their own bench(es) have to step up when they meet.
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

Jim White of the Telegraph continues to bring the awesome reports:

The onus on them, from a hugely expectant home audience as much as a curious London crowd sprinkled with hoop virgins, is not simply to win, but to win with an ease bordering on contempt, garnishing their performance as they go with Globetrotter theatrics. Their brief is to prove the inalienable superiority of the NBA and all who slam dunk in her. If they do not, on their way to gold, provide apparent evidence that man can indeed fly as they soar basketwards, then they will be regarded as somehow reneging on their responsibilities.
Yet the French were evidently by no means a bad side. Led by the diminutive San Antonio point guard Tony Parker (that’s diminutive by basketball standards, he is in fact 6ft 1in) they played throughout with nous and determination. As he bundles round court Parker, incidentally, sports protective spectacles, giving him the appearance of a bald, ball-bouncing Edgar Davids. And he adds to the eccentric look by pushing them high on to his forehead like an absent-minded professor when he shoots a free throw. Not that many academics require glasses for the same reason Parker does: he wears them to cover an eye injury he sustained when caught innocently in a nightclub brawl between the entourages of two American rappers. Which is not an injury you might expect to find among competitors in the equestrian dressage.
But the Americans’ easy, inconspicuous, unflashy lead was the product of an unmatchable work ethic. Superstars they may all be, but they do not simply expect to turn up to trouser the returns of their renown. Like Spanish footballers they regard losing possession as an insult and work fastidiously to ensure they win back the ball if they lose it. They block, they harry, they chivvy: three times Parker ran through the defence and was shaping to launch a slam dunk when he found the ball somehow smuggled out of his grasp.
Sadly the GB-Russia game rated only a two-sentence report.
