  • Projected 2010 FIBA World Championship Rosters

I will start by posting the projected 2010 lineup for Team USA. It is not believed that the following players from the US 2008 Olympic team will play in 2010: Prince, Kidd, Redd, Boozer, Wade, Kobe, LeBron. This projected lineup is based on comments from Team USA's Coach K and Colangelo (who heads US basketball) about what the 2010 team will probably look like.

If you are wondering, it is said that Boozer, Wade, and LeBron will likely not play because they don't want to and that Kobe won't play because the Lakers don't want him to and because he's tired.

    Team USA Projected 2010 Roster:

    PG Chris Paul/Deron Williams/Brandon Jennings
    SG Brandon Roy/Andre Iguodala
    SF Carmelo Anthony/Danny Granger
    PF Lamarcus Aldridge/Kevin Durant
    C Dwight Howard/Chris Bosh/Brook Lopez

There have been zero quotes from anybody (other than Jason Kidd) saying that they won't return for 2010. So, until they say otherwise, Prince, Redd, Boozer, Wade, Lebron, and Kobe are all part of the player pool.

Anyway, here's who I'd like to see

    Team USA Projected 2010 Roster:

    PG Chris Paul/Deron Williams/Russell Westbrook
    SG Dwyane Wade/Kobe Bryant
    SF Lebron James/Carmelo Anthony
    PF Chris Bosh/Amare Stoudemire
    C Dwight Howard/Andrew Bynum/Brook Lopez

In an interview recently LeBron mentioned that he´s extremely proud of being part of team USA. He sees himself as the leader of the team and sounded very motivated to play at the WC.

Otherwise, Team USA with the projected roster that ´FIBA Europe basket´ has posted will probably loose in the semi´s again.

I don't think we'll get any definitive answers from anyone from the Redeem Team, one way or another, till the All-Star break at the earliest.

But from a pure speculation standpoint V666's roster is lacking in true leadership which would certainly be a problem. It's better than the 2002 and 2004 teams, and has more experience than the 2006 team, though not as talented. It's a far cry from the Redeem Team though without Kobe, Lebron, or Wade to close out games. Certainly beatable if team's show up with their best players.

For Argentina, Pepe Sanchez has suggested he could return and so has Walter Herrmann. So the projected 2010 Argentine squad might look something like this,

            PG Pablo Prigioni/Pepe Sanchez
            SG Manu Ginobili/Paolo Quinteros
            SF Carlos Delfino/Federico Kammerichs
            PF Andres Nocioni/Walter Herrmann/Leonardo Gutierrez
            C Luis Scola/Fabricio Oberto/Roman Gonzalez

Just to make this thread more constructive, here's why I chose these players.

              Point Guards

CP3 is clearly the best PG in the NBA. He can shoot, pass, steal, plus he’s got international experience. He may lack size, but that didn’t show at the Olympics

D-Will is another top 5 PG. He’s got size, athleticsm, vision, handles, plus he can defend. He’s a good shooter but not at CP3’s level. He’s also got international experience.

For the last PG position, Coach K has said he likes size and defense; in addition, he might want a young player to groom for the future. So, I whittled my choice to Rajon Rondo, Devin Harris, Derrick Rose, or Russell Westbrook. I chose Westbrook because he’s got good size and defense. He’s also having the best season of the four.

Also, do not get your hopes up for Brandon Jennings. He will be nowhere near the US national team. His game is very much like Allen Iverson, but worse, and AI did not work out for the US.

              Shooting Guards

This one was easy. These are the 2 best shooting guards in the NBA, and they have previous international expereience.

              Small Forwards

              Same as shooting Guards.

              Power Forwards

Chris Bosh had an excellent Olympics in terms of scoring, so there’s no reason not to bring him back. However, his rebounding and lack of strength for a PF/C left a lot to be desired. He’s put on a few pounds this year, so maybe his rebounding and defense improves. Also, having international experience is a plus.

That said, Amare Stoudemire is an all around better PF than Bosh. He’s a better scorer, ball handler and defender. Chris is probably a better shooter but not by much. Amare also has international experience from FIBA Americas 2007.

              Centers

Dwight Howard was the starting center in 2008, so there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be back in 2010. Right now there isn’t a defender on the planet that’s better than Dwight. He can block shots, rebound, and man up on defense. On the other hand, his offensive game is very limited. He cannot shoot or create his own shot; he can only dunk, and his FT’s are horrendous. I have a feeling other teams will take advantage of this.

Finally, Bynum (22) and Lopez (21) are the best young centers in the NBA, and they’ve already been to several USA mini-camps. Both are similar players. They’re excellent shot blockers, defenders, and good FT shooters for centers. They can also score at will. IMO, Coach K will want to groom these two to take over for Dwight in the future.

Considering some comments of the head coach, national team members and looking to the performances this season, I would think Lithuanian NT should look like this.

I think the most positive notes for Lithuania looking to WC are : New coach K. Kemzūra. Jasikevičius and Kaukėnas are willing to play, Kleiza seems to grow up as a player and as the leader, brake-out of new sharpshooter Martynas Gecevičius.

                PG Å . Jasikevičius. M. Kalnietis.
                SG. R. Kaukėnas. M. Gecevičius.
                SF L. Kleiza. J. Mačiulis. S. Jasaitis
                PF K. Lavrinovič. D. Lavrinovič, P. Jankūnas.
                C R. Javtokas, M. Petravičius.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

                Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
                Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
                Buzelis, Lelevicius
                Murauskas, Sirvydis
                Tubelis, Krivas

For Germany it is kind of difficult to predict, several members of the old generation have been talking about retirement, but if Dirk is there, this could be their last chance. On the other hand the overall performance of the young guys on the 2009 EB team had been quite positive, personally I wouldn't like to see a step backwards. Kaman is only gonna be there if Dirk is there.

Anyway, it could look something like this:

                  PG Hamann / Schaffartzik
                  SG Greene / Staiger
SF Benzing / Schultze / Harris
                  PF Nowitzki / Jagla
                  C Kaman / Femerling / Pleiß (Ohlbrecht?)

                    Croatia-imposible to predict

acordind to our loved president of bb federation Danko Radic our roster will be decided in "democratic" way by decision of our "expert board". also acording to Radic sometimes is good to listen what media has to say and they will also take media sugestions in consideration.... O yeah acording to our new NT coach as he said Toni Kukoc will return to Croatian basketball. As Joke said Toni will come to our tranig camp during his vication in Croatia and spend 2,3 practices with our team and give his opinion on our team...AMAZEING

what a irony Josip Vrankovic nickname is Joke. In Croatian it's pronouced difrentley and has no meaning at all, but it seams like destiny got it right...I hope I'm wrong but next summer for us will be JOKE for us
                    Jordi Bertomeu sucks!

You're actually right. Amare has had a lot of up and down years defensively. His best year was probably 08/09 when he had to work hard to make up for the departure of Shawn Marion (PHX's best defender). But, I'm hoping over a 9 game stretch that he can be motivated like FIBA Americas 07. There he led the team in OFF rebounds, was third in blocks behind Dwight and Chandler, and fourth in steals behind Kobe, Lebron and Kidd.

Chris Bosh, on the other hand, I feel is overrated defensively. He's been the best defender on consistently poor defensive teams because he's the de facto "stopper" at Toronto. However, if you switched Amare with Bosh, I think Amare would put up equal or better numbers because he would be the primary defensive option (not like PHX).

I agree KG would be a better option at PF, but he probably has no interest in going to the WC.

For france, it's hard to predict as a lot will depend on a few franchise's staff & GM's.

                            Something like :
                            parker - diot - beaubois
Mike pietrus - de colo - gelabale
                            diaw - batum
                            flo pietrus - moerman ?/ajinca ?/ touré ?
                            noah - traoré

If we can get moiso and noah, + both pietrus & the best from last eurobasket, we would have a lot of material to build something decent.

I think Greece is one of the hardest ones to predict. Players like Calathes and Koufos are not at this time good enough to be considered top 12 Greek players. Yet they seem to have some special treatment from the Greek federation because they played in NCAA or whatever. So it's hard to predict if they will just be handed spots or not (despite there being several better Greek players at their positions).

Also, Greece's coach Kazlauskas does not know Greek players very well. He only knows them if he sees them play. Which is why some guys like Vougioukas, Pelekanos, and Vasileiadis were not even invited to tryout last summer. Greece seems to be one of the hardest rosters to predict.

Players that could definitely be selected but are not necessarily among the 12 best Greek players right now are quite a lot. Like Andreas Glyniadakis, Nick Calathes, Kosta Koufos, Kostas Kaimakoglou, Manolis Papamakarios and so on. Greece will probably want a third center because Sofo is a foul machine and can't hit free throws. So that would mean Glyniadakis would be in line for the team and then after that players like Vougioukas, Mavroeidis, Mavrokefalidis, Koufos.

After the 12 best Greek players there are guys like Papamakarios, Mavroeidis, and Kaimakoglou right behind them. For example Papamakarios could be taken as a guard over Zisis (although unlikely) and Kaimakoglou could be chosen over Perperoglou for example, or Mavroeidis taken as a third center if needed.

Hard to say, but Greece has about 18 players that are all good enough to be on a top level A squad. And since Vasileiadis asked to join the team to Kazlauaskas and since Kazlauskas can now see Pelekanos play I would expect that all of them will get invited to camp this time. Whatever the final 12 looks like, it should be the strongest Greek roster ever by a large margin.

I would say the 12 best Greek players could be divided up something like this,

                              PG Dimitris Diamantidis/Theo Papaloukas/Nikos Zisis
                              SG Vassilis Spanoulis/Michalis Pelekanos
                              SF Stratos Perperoglou/Kostas Vasileiadis
                              PF Antonis Fotsis/Georgios Printezis/Panagiotis Vasilopoulos
                              C Ioannis Bourousis/Sofoklis Schortsanitis
