That question seems out of place. What is, is. These are the highest performances, so we reward them.

I think they are more impressive for having come on a bad team.
This is a great topic for discussion, maybe we should somehow incorporate it into a different thread.

My feeling is that, generally speaking, the best players are the ones doing the most for their team and their team is winning. Seems like a simple concept but it differentiates between a player doing a lot on a bad team (Yi) and a player doing just as much on a good team (Scola).

On a bad team a decent player gets so many more touches and the other team is more relaxed defensively because they know the team they are playing is bad. Whereas on a good team, which may have more options on offense, you are getting the other team's best effort every night and you probably won't get as many touches.

You see this all the time in the NBA, that's why a guy like Monta Ellis is nowhere near the caliber of player as, say, Kobe Bryant even though their numbers are similar.

I'm not saying ignore all the numbers, but you cant decide just because the numbers are high, its just a decision to make by watching the games

And for me Haddadi and Yi both haven't changed anything in the process of games, in fact even they were not practically playing for their teams either, cause they were not putting something in common as a team on the field, if you would exchange Scola to one of those teams, with all isolations, he simply can do better than those,
maybe thats unlucky for them not to play in a high class team to show themselves better and to have chance to prove themselves better, and my opinion may sound unfair too,
but the teams success must always be the main criteria, carrying the team forward, Nowitzki has done those things before, and no one can question his performances or numbers
Or at present, Huertas, if you would take him out from Brazilian roster, they will still have Splitter, Barbosa, Varejao, Machado and the others, but everybody knows Huertas is a crucial member of that team, and his absence is far more important than the others, thats what I'm trying to explain, for me it's not just about the numbers, its about whether you're making a difference or not..

    C - Scola
    PF - Yi Jian
    SF - Ilyasova
    SG - Durant
    PG - Marcelinho Huertas

That feels more like a dream team of this tournament.

Looking at the per 36 min Omer Asik is averaging 19 PPG 15 RPG 3 BPG which is not too shaby I guess... my point is that the strength and depth of teams are at times disguising good perfomances.

    Yi -- 22.5ppg, 9.8rpg, 0.5bpg

Who are the other players leading their teams in both points and rebounds? Kleiza and Scola.... Ilysova? any others?

Actually I think Yao made the 2002 All-Tournament team despite China finishing 1-7

I don't know how they do it today though.
