Nba teams mainly rely on 3-4 players .If one of them gets injured seriously they're screwed, there are no unlimited budgets like in Europe therefore they just can't replace them. When Ginobili went down in Olympics,it meant Spurs season was over, same for Grizzlies and Gasol. If Navaro gets injured seriously it would be a huge blow, but Barcelona could at least find a decent replacement spending the right amount of money.American franchises can't do that. That's why nba owners are so reluctant to let their stars play for national teams,i'm not saying if it's right or wrong but from their point of view it's totally understandable.

Then the NBA should just scrap all that nonsense and start acting like the rest of the world

Yes but a wining against full roster US team it is more enjoyed than beating them with out all those nba stars.
I liked it in 2005. If we will win them again i wont be so pleased. At list Greek squad beat one of the best US teams who played with so many stars.

It is a same for US team not to play with its best players. It is a same for us as well since we all are fans of basketball.

WHY are Americans players so arrogant

Interview of Russell Westbrook in Athens.

          Greek reporter.
Russell you were just 18 y.o. when USA team lost from Greece and lost the ticket for the final game on previous WC in Japan. What do you remember from that game?

          Russell Westbrook.
Nothing. I haven't watch previous WC games of USA. I don't even know when that happened. What year did you say we lost from Greece?
Well. I just hope that wont happen again.

          ??????????????????????????????????

          What the hell?

Don't know if you noticed, the question wasn't about the malfunctions of the cerebral cortex.

they just don't care about international competitions. Is it so hard to realise? For nba fans it's just a chance to see some action in summer, nothing less nothing more. It's not arrogance.

Russell Westbrook is so American !!!
Of course. Why should he remember his National team games in the sport that he is playing too.

Can't get it. You lost. We have even say that if Greek team play again the match with the team of 2005 probably we would loose. Probably we would loose 9 to 10 games against that team.
It happened for us to play a hell of a good game that day. That's all. We beat US team and we really enjoyed. That doesn't make us (Greeks) better team than you.
We admit that. We are not arrogant as some players of US team are.

Keep it down because you never know.
What does it mean ''i don't remember''

Somebody is going to get cut from Team USA after Wednesday night's exhibition game against Greece, and Rajon Rondo has no illusions about where he stands.

So Rondo or Granger to be cut? Pretty much doubt it

Sorry but i just can't believe that.
Players that they don't give a shit about their national team games? In a sport that is the second in popularity in USA?
                      That's crazy !!!

If i was the US president i would take their US nationality away.
And i know how much patriot Americans are. They would do everything for their country & for their NT.

This is the first year the WC has been broadcast in the USA. ESPN just got the rights to show FIBA here, they're starting to push it here.
That being said, since we haven't seen a lot of international action here people think sending the USA B team is enough to win by 20+ points every game. When it starts to get more recognition here like it finally is, more players will want to go.

Reasons some stars are not going is because the NBA season is very long. I know at least for Kobe, he has not had a break since 07 I think, and he has an injury. What is important to him right now is to win the 3rd straight NBA championship, he wants to win it for Phil Jackson who has said this is his "last stand". This was also a big year for free agency, and people like D-Wade used that as an excuse...whatever the legitimacy of that may be.

Also with that said, a few of these stars have said that they will be at London in 2012

I hope that clears it up for some of you

                            What abt Indianapolis WC failure?
                            What abt Japan's WC failure?
And so many other failures i can't remember now.

The time that US team were destroying their ''enemies'' has past before many years.

Are you sure that those people you say are fans of basketball?

See, this is the problem I have with many of our Euro/international friends. They scrutinize and disect ev-er-y little thing, from how USA shakes your hands before the game to "how dare they not know Athens is the capital of Greece!! Off with their heads!!!!!". I mean, are you guys serious or joking? How do you know that Russel was serious here btw? So what if he didn't know and is telling the truth? You guys have to understand that your international competitions are larger than we consider them to be. USA soccer (football for you) had boners when they defeated Spain in the Confederations Cup last year. Spain took it as a joke and didn't care. What do you expect from a powerhouse team in their own sport?

That is exactly what is was, it was the WC. This is the first year the WC has got ANY recognition in the USA.
