  • Greece and Serbia face ban from WC over friendly fight

After watching the footage from this friendly game, the actions on a lot of the players from both teams showed no restraint and if it was any other sport they would be banned for up and coming tournaments.

FIBA should be reviewing this footage closely and looking to ban players but their gutless bureaucrats will most likely turn a blind eye. Yes, I am glad its not my NT that was involved so easy for me to write these words especially as they are 2 of the top contending teams.

What would these championships look like with diluted Greek and Serbian teams!!

Anyway my point here is what should happened to these players and teams as a result of this. Please vote.

Well, my initial reaction is that only Krstic should be banned. But I reviewed the video only once, other people might have a different opinion.

I expect no suspension of any kind as it was not an official game. But some other sanctions can be exercised by FIBA, such as warnings and monetary fines. And I'd agree with that. A ban or suspension would be too heavy imho.

ps. yeah, Krstic's reaction was nasty and really dangerous. He might be suspended.

        I don't know.
As a fan who wants NT to do their best,I want not a suspension or at least for only 1-2 games or the decision to come after the mundobasket.
But also as a fan who likes watching bball and is sick and tired of the disgrace that is called A1,I want them to be punished.
So I'm in a dillema.I hope they get suspended but after the mundobasket...

Krstic is arrested already by greek police and the serbian minister is flying to athens to try to release him.

I would say, FIBA should suspend the main brawl participants for several games.

It would be too cruel for the fans, if the teams would be suspended from the championship. The supporters probably been planning the trip to Turkey for months and were expecting for that journey with huge excitement. Banning teams from the championship will certainly play a huge disappointment for them.
From standpoint of FIBA, the organization has put a lot of efforts in promoting the games throughout the world with a wish to get a more successfull tournament, than the previous two in Japan and USA. Banning the "orthodox brothers" from the competition will play a major impact to the reputation of the games. I really doubt, that FIBA will go for such sanctions.

I guess that we should call on for Pappas, Papanikolaou, kaselakis, bogris and the rest of the U21 team to represent us the WC then...

Krstic especially should not go unpunished. Throwing a chair with a clear intention to harm was criminal. But since this is more about Greek league rivalries than ethnic ones, it's the Greek league that really should punish Teodosic, Fotsis, Keselj and Tsartsaris. If that doesn't happen, there will be a bloodbath in next season's Olympiakos-Panathinaikos games.

I dunno where you got this but it's not the whole and it's not accurate. He said "the same people create the same problems all the time.Enough is enough somethign should be done" among other things.

Which was a specific mention to Teodosic ,and Teodosic alone.
Anyway I didn't expect anything sane to come out of his mouth with the psicololality he had at the time.
With a serb coach who he adores, and serb teamates do you really think he could ever be racist to serbs?

It was a shot at Teodosic and Keselj

He meant that we PAY their lifestyles and allow them to behave in such manner in our homes. Money that we don't have excess of. Money that would better be used on home grown players that RESPECT their employer & fans!

I can't believe any SERIOUS Olympiakos fan can defend Teodosic anymore. It was "fun" when it was with Diamantidis and Panathinaikos I guess, but now it got more than that.

Teodosic is a disrespectful scum that does not deserve his salary by GREEK businessmen. That punch was not only on Fotsis face, it was a punch against the entire nation.

That's how Tsartsaris sees it and that's how it should be seen

The whole thing should be blamed in Greek Athletic System
For years now, there was a lot of violence in the arenas from the crowd and some from the players but no one was punished.
They were too afraid to collide with Oly and Pana because if the two families leave the clubs, the Greek Basketball will be dead within 5 years

So, over the years they didn't punish anyone, more and more verbal fighting and a tendancy to fight physically grew among the players and that was inevitable to come to this

Just 3 months ago Teodosic punched Diamandidis in the stomach and Diamandidis spit Teodosic in return. No one was punished
The last final game never ended due to crowd throwing objects. Twice.
                              No punishement for that either

In Greece there is the belief that if you make two mistakes, one for each side, then it all even. Also, if you really act like blind and deaf, pretending nothing happened, the people will forget it within a month
Everyone says this must be stopped but no one does it

Every person with a responsible job in Greece never tries to apply the law, they just try to keep even distance from the two sides. In fact, Greek officials are like Switzerland, nutural. If 10 Oly fans die, they will wish for 10 Pana fans to die so they can say 'lets call it even'
