  • Scouting our players

Hi, I create this post so we can tell to people from another countries about the strenghts and weaknesses of the players of our NT. I start with Argentina:

    + = strenghts
    - = weaknesses

    The Starters:

    Pablo Prigioni - Point Guard:
+: Great passer, specially off the pick and roll (with Scola). Always looking to make the interior pass. Inteligent. Very good defender. Constantly looking to steal the ball. Can shoot the 3. Clutch.
-: Not a great scorer. Streaky shooter.

    Carlos Delfino - Shooting Guard:
+: Can lock down the best perimetral scorer from the other team. Athletic. Can make a little of everything, either pass, shoot, rebound, penetrate or defend. When he gets hot, he can score 20 points in a row (see vs greece in 2008).
    -: Inconsistent.

    Andres Nocioni - Small Forward:
+: Excelent defensive player. Hustles in every play. Can rebound, shoot the 3 or score near the basket. The heart of the team. Big for the position.
-: Streaky shooter. Sometimes struggles against quicker forwards.

    Luis Scola - Power Forward:
+: Best player in the team. One of the best low post scorers in the world. Inteligent. Hustles in every play. Very solid rebounder and defender. Can dominate almost any big men. Can hit it from mid-range.
-: He doesnt block shots and its not the tallest power forward.

    Fabricio Oberto - Center:
+: Great basketball IQ, rebounder and defensive player. Very efficient near the basket. He will always make the right play and sacrifice for the team.
-: He is not a scorer, and his mid-range shot its not his best weapon.

    The Subs:

Paolo Quinteros - SG: He is there to score points. Amazing three point shooter, specially off the curl. He is very short for the position.
Federico Kammerichs - SF/PF: Defensive specialist (perimetral). Very long arms and athletic, which makes him a very good rebounder. Can make the corner 3, but he is not a good offensive player at this level.
Leo Gutierrez - PF: Experience, leadership and savvy. Amazing spot up 3. He is the ultimate winner. Solid fundamentals on defense. Not a good athlete.
Juan Gutierrez - C: Long and athletic. Streaky shooter. Amazing from the line (90%). He doesnt play to his full physical potential, and sometimes looks distracted. Can help with defense in the paint.
Roman Gonzalez - C: Great talent. Strong and big. Can score in the paint, shoot from mid range and sometimes from 3. Very good passer. A little inconsistent. Good agility for his size, but he will struggle defending away from the paint.

The other 2 spots are available for: Juan Fernandez (PG) Juan Pablo Cantero (PG), Juan Pablo Figueroa (PG), Hernan Jasen (SF) and Marcos Mata (SF).
I would personally like to see Fernandez and Mata make the final roster.

Now, lets hear from another teams...

Great post, welcome to the forum...

The reason of a lack of response is because most of us here are too lazy to write long posts like this (unless it's politics as seen from a certain thread...), besides, most of the rosters are not set at this point
    aim low, score high

Team USA still has no idea who is going to Turkey. It looks like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Dwight Howard are not going, so I am only speculating about what our potential roster will look like.

        Deron Williams - Point Guard
+: Good mid-range shooter, strong drives to the basket because of a great first step, great decision making, good defense
-: inconsistent from 3-point range, injury prone
        Danny Granger - Shooting Guard
        +: Good around the basket
-: inconsistent shooter, not a great defender, can't do much else but score off a lay-up
        Kevin Durant - Shooting Forward
+: Good shooter, good defender, great around the basket
-: very little experience, doesn't take physical pressure very well
        Carlos Boozer - Power Forward
+: Extremely physical and very typical PF, has huge shoulders and hips that he uses to move opponents on offense and defense, always gets great position near the basket, very physical
-: Not the best one-on-one defender but he knows how to box out opponents
        David Lee - Center
+: always gets the ball in his hands somehow, good shooter up to 15 feet, has a real "knack" for getting the ball
        -: not a good defender

Bench: Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Kevin Love, Brook Lopez, Eric Gordon, Andre Iguodala
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

Wow. Although US team is still a tough team, such a decline in player quality. Like if you are playing NBA in a console, the team that's rated 98 came dropping to 86 or something. I wish them well and hope to see some great action.

How many times does the US team have to be trashed for them to realise they need to send their best players to do anything?

Well they can't do much if players refuse... And lose is one thing, getting trashed is another

Everyone say that USA can win with C team, so lets not doubt them. They are more knowledgeable than us who watch international competition.

USA champions 2010. No sense in playing tournament, give them trophy now

without their best 5 players, usa is definitely beatable...if some of the european teams will have a good night against them in playoff stage for me it would be a suprise if they loose once again...because such young players as durant doesnt imprese me much, similiar as it was in 2004 with lebron, carmelo dwayne...
Of course almost all teams have their looses in rosters, almost all favourites contenders lost their star players,so this championship can become even be more unpredictable as usually it is...

It now looks like none of the USA '08 Olympians will be going to the W.C. which sucks. I think the roster probably be something like:

Guards: Chauncey Billups, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, OJ Mayo, Tyreke Evans
Forwards: Kevin Durant, Danny Granger, Rudy Gay, Gerald Wallace
Centers: Amare Stoudemire, David Lee, Brook Lopez

The only other possibilities according to the official pool of players that USA basketball has assembled are Andre Igoudala, Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love and Stephen Curry. I believe Kendrick Perkins and Al Jefferson already said they can't play because they need to recover from injuries.

If this is our final roster I am not very optimistic about our chances. Even with Lebron, Wade, etc. they needed some time to acclimate to international basketball rules and to playing with each other. This group is young, has essentially no experience playing under FIBA rules and has some pretty glaring on the court weaknesses such as weak pick and roll defenders (especially the big men) and inconsistent outside shooters.
I'm glad the program has decided to play a tough pre-WC schedule and that the coaching staff is all back. Hopefully they can get it all together so they are playing like a team by the time they get to Turkey. We'll see.........

Good to see some nice Midwestern hatred, but come on, that's not true about Granger.

He takes a lot of threes and has made 38%, 40%, 40% and 36% in the last 4 years.

85% FT shooter and gets to the line 7 times a game.

78% of his shots are jump shots and he has an EFG% of 49% on them, compared to Durant, the "good shooter," who takes 75% jump shots and only has an EFG% of 45% on them.

Hardly an inconsistent shooter or "can't do much else but score off a lay-up"
