China vs. Puerto Rico could be interesting, along with whoever plays France in the next game.

I really don't see that. The tournament is in the US, they invited teams, so "come and beat us" of course, just like if the tournament and in Lithuania and organised by Lithuanians. No arrogance whatsoever imo.

So the U.S. isn't allowed to have a tournament? Damn Americans and their good basketball team!

So I guess when another nation hosts a tourney it's "please beat us?"

                    Are you serious?

A "challenge" is a common word for a match or a tournament. There's the ATP CHALLENGER Tour in tennis, the World Football CHALLENGE in soccer, and the EuroCup CHALLENGE in basketball.

I think you're just perceiving arrogance here because you want to, and not because it's actually there.

Yeh smart comment Fed you must be [Unnecessary: deleted] to a point that you actually think you make sense.

Look at all the other friendlies that occur around the world such as Akropolis Cup, Stankovic cup etc. But no, the Americans have to again market another Rocky movie, Apollo vs Drago fight in the usual hype.

You obviously forgot that there are other international teams participating and by the way this is titled it appears it is only for teams from the USA

Exactly, notice how any individual country is left out of the "title" implying that teams/participants are all equal. But no, the USA is not equal to anyone...is it?

I see where Lietuvis is coming from with the title of the tournament.

However, I don't think it was the Federation of USA to come off as being arrogant or disrespectful to other teams (not necessarily the case with their players). I think, like most things being done this year, they are trying to raise the popularity of international basketball. Naming the tournament "USA Basketball Challenge" is simply a way of getting people's attentions.

That said, I do think they should rename the tournament as it gives false impressions of USA basketball and how they view the world when it comes to international competition. Something like "USA Basketball Invitational" is a much more suitable title for every country involved.

So is it confirmed that this will be a tournament and not just a doubleheader? Source?

Except that you conveniently ignored the EUROCup Challenge. I'm pretty sure Euro=Europe, so should I assume that Europe is better than everyone else because they like to name tournaments after themselves (does that logic even make any sense?).

The fact of the matter is, like most tournaments, the USA Basketball Challenge is named after the location of the event, much like in tennis with the Australian Open, the Qatar Open, the Brazil Open, the Barcelona Open, the Serbia Open etc... etc..

Again, your preconceptions are forcing you to see what you want to see, and not what's actually there. It's not USA basketball's fault that you manage find "arrogance" where there was none.

Note: There was already a USA Basketball Challenge in 2007. It was in Las Vegas and only featured American teams. Take that for what it's worth.
