Giving the 2nd Olympic Slot for Asia Now: yes or no?

NO ! The current qualifying format is fine.

Not mentioning that these 4 countries representing Asia in the world champs are beatable by other countries on the region during Asian tournaments (i.e. Japan, Philippines, Qatar, S. Korea).

even if I ignore the current Asian Champion, can you tell me whan was the last time China lost to an Asian team ? I think 2002 Asian Games final when they lost to referees (aka South Korea)

ok if these teams are beatable, beat them and qualify as the Asian Champion ! why asking for an extra spot ?

Yes they went win-less in 2008 but their experience in the Olympics help them win the last two William Jones Cup and last year's Asian Championship...

Olympics shouldn't be training ground. It's where the best athletes compete. At this point Asia hasn't shown to be on par with Euro teams.

Thats true.. it should be competed to the highest level... and it just sad that only one Asian country (China) is capable to do that at the moment..

It wouldn't hurt giving another FIBA Asia country a chance though but I doubt it will happen...

Every non asian voting YES is nuts.
he only teams that should be awarded is European teams in order to make competition stronger and not weaker. Who needs a team that will not make to playoffs 99%if you can get medal contender team instead.

the problem is that asia do not sucks we do not have the luxury like of Australia and New Zealand to have exposure on every world tournamnet and facing world class competition take i.e lebanon I think experience playing higher level killed them

Asking for another slot is too much.. Two is enough.. Asia might be getting better but nowhere near the Americas and Europe.. These two continents deserve majority of the slots..

FIBA Oceania must be merged with FIBA Asia just like in FIFA, that way we some right to request for more slots for the merged region.. And the qualification phase must be somewhat similar to FIFA.. And just like FIFA, the WC must be the BIGGEST STAGE OF BASKETBALL.. Not the Olympics..

Unlike basketball, Oceania champion doesn't get automatic qualification to the World Cup.. after winning the regional qualifier.. they have to face either the fifth placer from South America or Asia in order to qualify to the World Cup..

A merger of FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania should be in the near future.. one of FIBA's top bureaucrats (I think its the FIBA President) was an Australian and the leading advocate of the merger...

Well that's just mean.

If they had been a lowly Division B, or languishing in the bottom of division A I'd agree with FIBA. But they qualified for two straight Eurobaskets before it went to the all inclusive 24 teams.

They seem to be shifting the goalposts repeatedly with Great Britain, first just needing to be Division A, then needing to qualify for Eurobasket, now it's have a well established plan for the future. Next it will be win a medal

This is just absurd. Even if they were at the bottom of Division B they should be allowed to compete. I definitely get the impression that FIBA is looking for excuses not to include them.
