As you've realized, we have updated the forum.
it's been 10 years since the previous upgrade, so it's likely we've lost some styles and functionality.
could you please share the issues you've encountered, as well as your thoughts and suggestions here:

Friendlies announcement:
August 17: Canada vs Spain at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada in Granada, Spain.
August 18: Canada vs Argentina, (Granda, Spain)
August 19: Spain vs Argentina (Granada, Spain)
As for a quick update on Canada. A Core 14 (11 NBA players) committed to a 3 year Olympic cycle last summer which included most of our top players minus Wiggins, Boucher, Clarke, Lyles and the rookies (Mathurin, Nembhard, Sharpe etc.)
We still feel fairly good about this group of 14, highlighted by Shai Gilgeous Alexander, but expect that all will not play. That could open the door for Wiggins/Boucher/Clarke (I'm doubtful) but more likely Mathurin/Nembhard as they have made it known they want to play.
At best we may see:
SGA/CoJo/Pangos
Murray/Dort/NAW
Brooks/Barrett
Olynyk/Brissett
Powell/Birch
But I expect a number of those to not play. Murray, Brooks, Brissett, Birch among the less likley IMO (contract concerns, injuries etc.).
Plenty of others to draw on that are part of the system including Zach Edey, Mathruin, Nembhard, Delano Banton a half dozen end-of-NBA-bench players and plenty of Euro/Asia based role players. Kyle Wiltjer, Melvin Ejim, Kassius Robertson, Kyle Alexander among the better ones who've been part of the Qualification Core (and who I'd prefer over plenty of low level NBA players).
You never know - could have a mass exodus like 2019 again (life of a Team Canada fan)Last edited by mojo13; 01-18-2023, 08:45 PM.

Philippines, Japan and Indonesia are damn lucky that this edition of WC this year will be most star studded in the history of the event... With possible top 3 or 4 players in the World today will likely play in the WC (some already confirmed likes of Doncic and Jokic) plus couple of known players who will represent in every country and the biggest young prospect ever since LBJ (Wembayanma).. The hype of the tournament is way way bigger than the past editions (Or when NBA starts parading their players in international competitions in FIBA in the 90's).... I remember 20 years ago that this event was only a minor when the biggest stars who participating in FIBA's biggest event are only role players in the NBA (Stojakovic, Ginobili, Divac, Sabonis)... The biggest names only there at that time are Dirk and Yao, The latter still a rookie in the NBA that time while Nowitzki still only rising star that time, US stars likes Iverson, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, etc... ignoring this event, And that's sucks for FIBA... Today's version will have major superstars who likely will spice up the event.. FIBA's hardwork and sacrifice to make this event a bigger one (likely surpass Olympic basketball in terms of value, revenue and competition, And other sports World cup event in terms of viewerships and revenue likes of Cricket and Rugby)... For me, changing the cycle from even to odd years (Escaping FIFA WC), the expansion of the event from 16 to 24, now 32 and qualification system to the WC is a good move... Maybe some of here will disagree but to make the sport more bigger and become atleast 2nd biggest and popular sport after football/soccer is the mission and vision of FIBA to try our beloved sport who accidentally invented by a PE teacher (James Naismith) centuries ago will be bigger as times goes by.... As a basketball fan like me, I want the event become 2nd most watched and biggest event after FIFA because they deserved it.... FIBA wants to beat the world cups of Cricket and Rugby this year in terms of viewership and revenue this year, As both 3 sports will held their separate WC event in the same year...

Qualified teams who likely parading atleast NBA player in the WC this year:
Slovenia - Doncic, Cancar, Dragic
Greece - 4 Antetekoumpo bros + Dorsey
Lithuania - Sabonis, Valančiūnas
France - Gobert, Batum, Fournier, Ntilikina, Hayes, Maledon, Dieng (and possibly Wenbayanma)
Finland - Markannen
Spain - Hernangomez bros, Rubio
Japan - Hachimura, Watanabe
Australia - Giddey, Dellavedova, Landale, Mills, White, Daniels, Green, Thybulle, Ingles (I'm not include Simmons, he's not interested as always)
Canada - SGA, Olynk, Joseph, Powell, Brooks, Boucher, Clarke, Barrett, Birch, Murray (I'm not include others who are not committed long terms for Canada team)
Philippines - Clarkson
Germany - Shroder, Wagner bros, Theis, Kleber
Italy - Gallinari, Fonteccho, Mannion
Latvia - Porzingis, Bertans
This current set of players who confirmed their qualification already tied the previous record of 54 last 2019 in China... This is only 13 out of 17 teams who already qualified w/o atleast 1 NBA player in their team... China, Lebanon, NZL (although they have Adams but he's not committed) and Ivory Coast who are qualified w/o NBA player in current season, This is the list w/o teams likes USA, Serbia who are not yet qualified officially.... Talking about the globalization of basketball...

I'm curious on Iceland's Viking clap, Actually they have a chance to make it to the FIBA WC this year, currently 4-4 and tied w/ Georgia for final spot for qualification in Group L... I want to see Iceland's viking clap either Manila, Okinawa or Jakarta, and face up against NZL's Haka... let's see who among traditional sports mantra are better?
NZL's Haka

I will pick France over Slovenia as top 3 teams for upcoming FIBA WC... They have better roster than Slovenia... Even Serbia has better roster if they put all of their best players on their team... Although Slovenia have a shot to get a medal for this year's FIBA WC....
For me, this is the favorites for this year's event (Top 10):
Spain
France
USA - (Depending on the roster they will built)
Serbia
Slovenia
Australia
Canada
Greece
Lithuania
Germany

Taiwan will host Lithuania, France and Latvia for a series of tune up games before FIBA WC in summer.... Lucky for Taiwan even they are not qualified for this summer's big basketball event, As they will test their skills vs Europeans powerhouse...

Still feeling caustiously opptomistic as a Canadian fan, as far as turnout goes.
As a reminder the 14 that "committed" to this WC/Olympic cycle include.
Joseph
Pangos
SGA
Murray
Dort
Alexander-Walker
Brooks
Barrett
Brissett
Ejim
Olynyk
Powell
Birch
Edey
Of course not all will play (injuries, free agency etc), but I'm feeling 2/3rds to 3/4ths will. I think it all revolves around SGA though - but I'm feeling good about his participation at this point. In a recent interview the CEO of Baskateball Canada seemed to imply that Andrew Nembhard (Pacers) and Bennedict Mathurin (Pacers) are in the mix as well. That could help supplement if needed - as I'm not feeling great about a few of these guys (Brooks, Pangos, Murray).
CEO also said they are setting up a 2nd tournment in Europe (2-3 games), plus 1 or 2 in Jakarta - to get them to 5-6 exhibition games (this will be huge for Canada to prep properly).

To me it goes like this:
Tier 1:
USA, France, Spain, Serbia, Australia
Tier 2:
Slovenia, Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Canada
Tier 3
Latvia, Italy, Argentina and the rest
PS: The fact that we have like 12 teams that can win medals, it wouldn't be chocking, says a lot about current FIBA competition. Most competitive ever.LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:
Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
Buzelis, Lelevicius
Murauskas, Sirvydis
Tubelis, Krivas

Latvia has more quality? Debatable. In FIBA, maybe. Because Porzingis in FIBA (differently than NBA) is better than Sabonis (and JV). They have good PFs. But the guard line is getting old. Hard to say how much young guys can step up, while Jokubaitis and Brazdeikis developing at high level.LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:
