And this is the reason the great Canadian man-mountain (of Indian decent) Sim Bhullar played three games in the NBA. That may have been peak Indian interest in the NBA.
But anyway FIBA/NBA already have another found good market in South Sudan, The youngest country on earth today that consist of 12 million population (and likely to increase)... It seems this country will be a basketball country such as Philippines, China and Lithuania... Their national team success will be the reason for that (thanks for Loul Deng)... Then Indonesia starting to have some fans out there... Yes, in terms of qualifying method, this is not an ideal situation, especially most of Euroleague and NBA didn't allow them when the season starts.. But in terms of marketing the sport, fan awareness and crowd support in their home games are excellent... Whether we like it or not, We will still support our country anytime even their teams are suck at it... Even Mongolia's crowd support in their Pre-qualifiers games are impressive, Even also in Middle east countries that football is their religion are starting to feel the sport of basketball.. In fact, Dubai are interested to have a team in Euroleague... NBA games having in Abu Dhabi and good crowd turnout in WC qualifiers in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia... FIBA and NBA are holding hands to spread the sport in whole parts of the world...

    • Ok - here we go with the last window.

Here is my speculation on the FIBA Americas.
Canada (1st), Venezuela (2nd) and DR (3rd) take the top three spots and Qualify from Pool E. Argentina gets to the WC as the best 4th place record.

With Pool F - Brazil (1st), USA (2nd) and Mexico (3rd) get through and PR (4th) fails to Qualify.

Ouch... I want Puerto Rico to be there because they have rich basketball tradition plus they have followers and basketball there in general is popular in Puerto Rico...

        • United States officially qualifies with their win over Uruguay tonight. 88-77

US had a very strong second half after a very poor start.

Edit: With the results tonight Brazil needs to beat the US or they will be in serious danger of missing their first world cup.

From one foot away for qualification to be left alone for spot at the WC... Tough task for Brazil... Puerto Rico and Mexico have easier schedule than them, while all of three other teams in Group E have higher quotient than Group F when it case who will qualified as best 4th placer....

Seems that VEN, DOM, ARG will qualify for the FIBA WC unless we see some egregious point swings in the games Sunday.

If one of MEX (@ URU), PR (@ COL) or BRA (vs USA) lose Sunday they are out. Otherwise if multiple lose or they all win then point differential comes into play with PR -29 points behind Mexico.

              • Congrats on South Sudan... They are now talk of the town by qualifying their first FIBA WC appearance in their 1st try and youngest country on earth... Honestly, of all African teams should be avoided in the Draw, It will be them... I don't know what is their limit but they have potential to be a powerhouse team in basketball world...

Mexico and Puerto Rico are favorites to beat their opponents but Brazil will have a hard time against vengeful USA for sure... Last window Brazil smashed USA and the latter wants payback with a bang...

                  • Serbia lose to Greece while Belgium beat UK/England (Great Britain) in their Group I games... Serbia still in danger although their last game is against UK at their home... No way Serbia will lose that game... For sake of ticket sales, FIBA and WC organizers more needed Serbia to be there than Non basketball country like Belgium... Hope Serbia will take care of business against UK on Monday....

                        • Ok, as a Puerto Rican I'm happy that we qualified for the World Cup, but can someone explain me how? We somehow got 2nd place in group F which I can't understand since we have a +/- of only 17 yet we have the same record of Mexico and Brazil. For the same reason I can't understand why Argentina was eliminated.

Argentina has less point differential than Brazil as best 4th placer to qualify for the WC....

Truly the end of an era for Argentina. I'm not too worried though, they can still come back in the next WC/Olympic cycle.
