  • What can Indonesia get from hosting the next world cup championship? Its the 4th most populated country in the world and they have 0 (ZERO) players ever played outside their national league, which is not even on local divisions level in europe. how can the sport improve in that country? Its something you cant do anything about it. Either you are talented as a country or not. Its like the olympic games, where the hosting country has a free pass to each team sport. For example greece hosted 2004 olympics and we didnt even have 20 players to create a full squad for baseball. We dont even have a league, didnt even have a stadium. We bought 20 greek-americans,like nations buy runners from aithiopia and kenya for long distance runs and built a new stadium to host the games. The result? Greece lost all the games, the new stadium is not used and baseball didnt improve in greece.

Same will happen in indonesia and less for philipinnes. Im not mentioning japan, cause they have been more competitive in some occasions and have produced some good basketball players. Indonesia and philipinnes on the other hand have players in their leagues only and max an american naturalized. Even if that guy was jordan, they would still not even be at least competitive (i mean lose by 20-30 max). If fiba want to improve basketball at these countries they can arrange international tournaments and get america or serbia or greece or anyone to play there and allow the locals to see world class stars. Not giving them free spots in expense of the tournament's competiveness level. i mean its ridiculous whats happening with angola or philipines and senegal (and these are just the 3 worst out there, most of the asian and african teams are more or less on the same level)
    Sasa Pukl for MVP

Indonesia is much lower level than us. Our team of college stars beat their NT by 30 points. We also have alot of promising young talent with height and decent athleticism who will be ready hopefully come 2023. Indonesia is apparently naturalizing serbian and african kids under 16 years old.

African and Asian teams will be included, no one says the opposite. The issue is the number of spots.
Imo, fewer spots mean greater competition among their best teams. Now, it's relatively easy to qualify and then, get destroyed in international competition. Is this good for the sport in those countries? In my experience, successes bring popularity and continuous humiliating defeats don't help at all.

Given the overall quality of the game, I'm not sure the answer is obvious.

Then, we need an Indian NT in WC as well

Nothing bad for that. If Spain can do this, Indonesia can, too

The biggest problem is this silly argument of "developing the sport in this country". Did football develop in Fiji because they played onece in Confed Cup and lost 10 - 0 against Spain?

There are so many problems. The PBA in Philippines has height restriction rules. HEIGHT RESTRICTION RULES in BASKETBALL for foreigners. 1 spot for Asian teams, max. 2 is absolutely enough for Asian teams. Same goes for African teams. Max. 2.

PS: Think about Group D point differential after 2 rounds. If this is normal to you, okay. To me it's not nor should it be.

actually, many here in the philippines are batting for the removal of that height restrictions. we also don't like it. we even also want to remove restrictions in getting foreign coaches - we have a very protectionist laws about labor. lastly, we want to shorten PBA - this league runs from january to december with 3 separate and distinct tournaments in it.

we also want to be atleast competitive and respectable but it is our leaders that don't care. there are also more qualified coach and players than what we have right now. we have too much politics in philippine basketball.
