I doubt. Kanter was born in Zürich (has Swiss birth certificate) and I really doubt that Swiss would change his birthdate for any reason. On other hand who knows, Turks are known for faking the birthdates.

don't know if it's truth but it doesn't mean anything beacause this "U" turnaments are only important to basketball junkys like us here. at senior level it's not to important if you are 28 or 25 and for most people it's only senior resuts that count's

I really doubt that. After Ilyasova case (and those two naturalized Serbian guys), apparently it's a common belief in Serbia that every Turkish prospect has fake birth dates. But no my friend. Kanter has a valid history. He was born in Zurich in 1992. His father was (maybe still is) a professor who later moved back to Turkey for a position at Van University. At the age of 13, he enrolled to Samanyolu College in Ankara and actually started playing basketball there.

If that guy some real information he should reveal them. Otherwise it's really annoying to hear these baseless rumors.

I wonder wheter there were such speculations about Robio or not? 55 points, 25 rebo, 15 assisst etc. Was that normal or is he really different?

              An Interview with Enes Kanter

We are gonna hear a lot about this kid. So we'd better have a separate thread for him.

He did an interview with Oğuz Yenihayat about his departure for the USA and revealed a few interesting things.

Here is my translation (it's not word-to-word)

              Q. Enes, you had serious invitations from the USA last year, too. Why didn't you go then?
              - I experienced a serious injury last year, and had to go through a long recovery period. To be honest, I was not confident enough and wanted to go there stronger once I totally got rid of my injury.

              Q. How is your injury right now?
              - I am quite healthy now, really good. Fenerbahce senior team physiotherapist Murat Caglar helped me a lot, both therapy-wise and psychologically. I wanna thank him once more.

              Q. Let's talk about your departure from Fenerbahce. They were planning to send Vidmar away and give you serious minutes. Why didn't you choose to be an important part in a team which aims TBL championship and Euroleague F4?
              - If I stayed, I would get significant minutes, and that would excite me up. However I had drawn my path. Last year I couldn't but this year it was the correct time to go to the USA. Moreover, Fenerbahce offered a 5-year contract to me, and I felt it was too long.

              Q. So can we say you are leaving because you didn't want to sign?
You can say so if you want, but my priorities were my education and foreign language skills.

              Q. Have you talked to anybody from Fenerbahce management?
              - I talked to Mahmut Uslu only, but solely about the financial things.

              Q. Was there a problem with the money?
              - No, actually they offered me a very generous contract.

              Q. What about Bogdan Tanjevic?
              - I was talking to him about my injury and basketball related things. Nothing about my departure.

              Q. It looks like nobody wants you to leave. Did anybody supported your decision?
              - As you said, very few people supported this decision. Only my family did, as they have always done all my life. I am confident that I will show real Enes to everyone who didn't believe in me.

              Q. Is it true that Olympiacos made you an offer?
              - It is true. They offered 2m USD per year and a two-year guaranteed contract. However I had made up my mind, and I would go to the States. The offer flattered me, but I chose the USA.

              Q. You are in the States now, but when you look back, do you have any regrets?
              - No, I don't. and I don't think I will.

              Q. Fenerbahce manager Nedim Karakas implied that all these were just a play and you will sign for an European team next year.

              - I don't think about returning to Europe. I am making my life plans in accordance with my goals. I am a Fenerbahce fan, and if I come back I would like to return to Fenerbahce rather than any other club.

              Q. Some people stated that this was your manager's decision, not yours?
              - First of all, I don't have a manager. I don't know Tolga Tugsavul at all, as written in the press. He and a few other managers tried to contact me, but it didn't go any further. I asked some people about how are the things in the States, but except that nobody persuaded me for anything. This is my decision.

              Q. You will get offers from NCAA teams during the season. Do you have any school in mind?
              - Yes, I expect and I know there will be offers during the season. I'm thinking about Texas University - Dogus Balbay's team - and North Carolina.

              Q. Do you believe you are gonna be a NBA player?
              - 2011 is my draft year. I want to get drafted after my first year in the NCAA, but you cannot tell at the moment because I have never been in that environment before. However, the only thing I need is a ball and four team-mates, then I will do my best.

              Q. After Kerem Gonlum's doping issue, it was mentioned in the press that you were invited to national team but you rejected it.
              - Nobody invited me. I haven't heard anything about that. I'm playing for the youth teams already, and I will gladly join the national team if invited.

                Enes Kanter

Enes Kanter is now going to the US to play high school basketball at Findlay Prep. He wants to play in the NBA and this is the best route Kanter thinks it is to get there. He is following fellow Turk Dogus Balbay who went to Brewster Academy and then on to University of Texas. This is a big move for European prospects and Kanter.

I don't believe you know about Turkish Youth Basketball Teams.Because you said that you have friends in Efes Pilsen and GS youth teams, but Efes Pilsen has not youth team.Their youth team is Pertevniyal. And Enes Kanter was born in 1992.There were some rumours about he was born in 1992, but that's not true.Turkish Basketball Federation wanted to change his birthday 1992 to 1993, but his father didn't let that happen.

Man, give us a reason why we should take you seriously? Tell us how do you know?

I went on this issue and asked about it as far as I could, and all the answers point to the same direction: no, he's at his real age. And why did they keep his birth place as Zurich if they were going to change the birth info? Someone can track it down in Swiss papers I am sure.

As Murat Yuce said at batug.com, "if Lebron was Turkish, everybody would claim his birthdate was manipulated!"

I am not the one who claims that his age is not correct. So you have to prove it. To be honest, I cannot know the truth, as I am not his father or I haven't seen any papers, but if you are claiming something that is different than the official papers, you have to back it up with stronger evidence. "Many guys told me so" is not a proof. You know, maybe they believed so, because he was dominant, and it's not surprising to hear these kind of stuff done in Turkish bball as you said. But they all come up to surface very quickly. Everybody knew about Ilyasova, Dusan, or Mutaf. However nobody said anything so far about Kanter.

But if this kid is born in Zurich, they must have some papers with Swiss authorities, right? Somebody can go and check it. I haven't seen any serious claim about his age so far. At the moment I have to hold the official papers over baseless rumors, sorry.

Kanter looks like different kid. Read the interview above. He is coming from a good family and apparently money and fame are not his immediate priorities.

And come on, 3 years?? He is apparently a kid. No way he's 21.
