Good news, as expected he is returning in the second half of the season. As far as I know few Turkish clubs offered minor roles to him and looks like he found a team that offered him a major role. He needs match tempo to regain his assets for sure and ABA League, Eurocup (His team is going to be eliminated most probably in group stage but never mind he may see few games in Eurocup level) and Slovenian local league games waiting for him. He will be warming up, good opportunity to be ready for the next season.

Perception, intelligence and morality assist it as well. The strong with less intelligence and comprehension can not cope with the less strong but with sufficient intelligence and comprehension. I like the sportsman who is intelligent, agile as well as morally upright.

With the example of Melih Tunca we can see again how important it is to have a real role in a team. Since the injury of Tolga Kay, Melih Tunca is the MVP of the league. You can have talent etc. but without a real role you cant take the role that your talent deserves, especially in a country like Turkiye. He dominated the game yesterday again with 22/6/10.

2023 PG DERIN SARAN CONTINUES TO REEL IN OFFERS

It has been a big couple of weeks for Derin Saran as he continues to reel in the scholarship offers. The 6’4” senior point guard of the Asheville School (NC) and Team 1 of 1 Elite has added four offers from division one programs recently.
In the past couple of weeks, LIU Brooklyn, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, and Wyoming have all offered Saran who is one of the 2023-point guards left available in the nation. These four are added to a list of offers that also included Binghamton, Campbell, Colgate, Denver, Elon, Northeastern, Quinnipiac, Stony Brook, USC Upstate, UT Chattanooga, Winthrop, and others.
“I’m grateful for all of my offers. It’s been an exciting and fun process, learning about different programs and conference,” Saran said about the current status of his recruitment. Saran considered committing and signing during the November early signing period but ultimately decided to wait it out and it has paid off the with the additional offers. The point guard is having a standout senior season to finish out his high school career with 20.1 points, 8.5 assists, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game to lead Asheville School to a 16-5 record currently.
Following the high school season Saran is looking to take his official visits and then making his commitment following them in March or April.

He is 2004 born and couldnt have played in the U16 but in the U18 team. Derin Saran was 2 years ago like 171cm and very skinny. He was always talented but physically not ready. He had a burst of growth of over 20 cm in 1,5 years it seems and has been having a great season with his team with over 20 points average.Originally posted by Straight forward View Post

There is maybe no outstanding talent but many guys who could turn out to be very good in the future with hard work so its really difficult to select the right ones but Derin Saran has surely a spot in the U19 FIBA WC team this summer. Maybe also in the U20 team.
We always have to consider the level of competition as well. Oh, yeah, I've messed up 2004 with 2006
Then it's a little bit different perspective indeed. I thought I see 16yo. But still the skillset, feel for the game, IQ, vision is all there. Depends now what's the level of his physicality, but he has very good first step, acceleration, shiftness. If he won't lose that with bulking for PROs, he will be a player.

ESPN released the 2024 mock draft and B?y?ktuncel is in the late second round. It is possibility that Adem get selected in 2023, Berke in 2024 and maybe Demir in 2025. I do not know his current shape. And we have some guys with NBA upside in 2007 generation. We can see more Turkish guys in NBA in the future.Comment

The main success criterion for reasonable basketball countries should be having 10 NBA draftees in 10 years period. First rounder or second rounder, that doesn't matter much. Some of them will play in NBA, some of them will play in Euroleague normally. Thus, having at least 10 players who are high level basketball stagers will lead you to stay competitive in basketball arena.
We must aim having that number of NBA players. I take this idea much further, this must be the written mission of federation in the medium term. When we achieve this, we can count ourselves as a serious contender for tournaments.
10 players in 10 years mission is hard to achieve when we look at our talent pool. Still, it is all about to reveal the real potential of this country. Basketball needs to be revived in Adana, Ankara and Eastern regions. We can only talk about the NBA possibilities of '03-'06 generation range and from this span, only Bona is a sure pick. Mediocre outcome.
There is a substantial amount of money in Turkish basketball. That should be spent wisely. We can do better. We can introduce more youth to basketball. We can provide better facilities for them to utilize. We are seriously a sleeping giant, sadly.Sports is not only considered as a superiority of physical capability.
