Recently, Jasikevicius received this question. He said, there's no perfect path, but now he would choose Europe. When he left Lithuania for NCAA, conditions were horrible, crappy arenas ect. Now conditions in Europe are developed, great. Saras says that NCAA season is short, you're training less, you are studying a lot. If you are certain going PRO as a baller, you should choose Europe cause education is not about certificate, degree these days. That's Saras' take.

I probably would proponent of that, but I do like how American school pays attention to physicality and learns ISO fundamentals. For some Lithuanians f.e., who are naturally good team players, that may be be beneficial. I think it's more of a question to solid, but not elite prospects. They need certain environment to get on track. Real talent I think would prevail in any case anyway.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

    Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
    Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
    Buzelis, Lelevicius
    Murauskas, Sirvydis
    Tubelis, Krivas

    • Thanks for the replies!
That's interesting about Saras and it's definitely encouraging that conditions in Europe have improved so much since he had to make that choice.

      • I like Dogan, but I wouldn't call him prodigy (at least nit yet surely)
No need to discuss about selecting words. Prodigy, Wonderkid etc. is just a word to explain his talent. It doesnt mean he is the next Durant.

The way I see it he should grow to 6'9, 7'0.
He is already 6'9 and i am watching his first game right now and he looks already taller to me. He will at least end up with 6'11.

My concern is that he won't be all that smooth and skilled to be on ball creator as forward (and I do see him primarily as 4 in the future)
I dont share your concerns at all. He played all his youth career as a PG and he can handle the ball very well and this wont change anymore. Of course his development will depend on his role in the future but a guy who can handle the ball with his size in combination with speed and athleticism will always catch eyes. He is a 2006 guy, these boys normally pop up when they are 17.

In other words, from what I see I don't see him being a forward with the ball- a la Lebron, Durant, Doncic, ect. And a player without the ball can't be franchise player.
You are fairly too hasty with these kind of words. There is no need for any rush. He is playing, he is growing and this is the most important point. He has 3 years to be eligible for the NBA. At this point I can just say that hell be drafted.

His shooting is really raw and with getting weight on he may lose a portion of skill and smoothness as usually happen with bigs. He seem to feel most comfortable in transition and really raw in half court.
Shooting is a point that must develop, thats correct but we shouldnt let it sound like he a non shooter, thats not correct either. I dont agree with the second part. He has enough weapons to be effective in half court. He is nearly unstoppable among men if he attacks the rim and the Banvit school with Ahmet Gürgen knew how to teach post plays. Thats one of the reasons all Banvit bigs can play in the post, Dogan as well.

Thats the one difference between Porzingis/ Pokusevki and him. Pokusevski and Porzingis are tall shooting guards who are not playing any post games. Dogan is more versatile.

But I don't see that elite skillset that would make him transcendent prospect, prodigy. He was compared with Pokusevski, but I think the latter is more skilled while Dogan will end up relying on athleticism mainly, IMO. That's my projection anyway. If I'm wrong about his skillset and he will continue to polish it, he might be special. We'll see.
Thats not a problem. You can share your opinion like I do with the Lithuanians but dont take the word prodigy too serious. It doesnt mean he is not a human.

        • To finish my words for Dogan. My only concern is his passiveness in games. He is very determined when he is in action but loses focus in times. Still very young but this is the most concerning point. He can read plays in defense but his timing for helps is not great right now. His perimeter 1 vs 1 defense looks good on the other hand. Great to watch him playing.

          • How is Onuralp Bitim this year? I see that he is great stat wise in Bursa and kinda plays a leader role. Do you think it is sustainable? I think he was injured for the national team but is he someone that should be included going forward?

He has been doing very well and would have been part of the NT if he hadnt been injured and yeah he made a big step forward.

              • I can´t english but i will try.......

@Straight forward, Demir Dogan is without shoes 205 or 206, but he needs to be close to 210 to realize his potential because he is (best as) PF and he will have huge advantages at this position. Demir is a PF, Pokusevski plays like a perimeter player and doesn´t know at all how to play, but Demir Dogan knows that, this 2 aspects(position and how to play) are the 2 big differences between both. Of course Pokusevski has wider skillset or better - he has a closer skillset to a guard but this is not important because Demir will have a huge advantage against other bigs, HUGE.

@Toruko, Demir was just until U12 a PG, in U14 he was a fulltime big. Of course he can lose his handle, Metecan Birsen´s handle was PG-level, but after U16 he lost his handle(he played most time as PG until U16). Tibet Görener played PG at U14 and U15 but not in U16 and then he lost his handle only in one season(not as bad as Metecan either).

@Toruko, you think Tibet Görener is bigger as Berke Büyüktuncel? Are you kidding me

We can see some good prospects in this U20 season. Efes has really a great team. PG´s Ozan Yilmaz(03), Yigit Tekin(04) are very good, Emre Melih Tunca(05, G) has special potential, he could end up as a star prospect. Berkay Dönmez(05, SF) was injured, therefore not in in U16 european games, Hamza Ali Altin(05, F) has very interesting potential too. And the other big potential Mehmet Efe Demirel(05, C) had knee injury therefore not in european games and still not in the games https://twitter.com/AnadoluEfesSK/st...82832248041473

Other good potential and a bit unknown names are for example, Kerem Kuthan Konan(04, F, Besiktas). Kerem Konan is the biggest potential of the very good 04 generation. Berke Büyüktuncel could even play in the NBA(if the bum-club Tofas doesn´t stop him) but Kerem Konan is the player with the highest ceiling of his generation, he has big bust-potential but he has huge potential but i don´t thin he will reach it. Other very interesting potential is Arda Duraklar(04, C, Gelisim Koleji), Arda added 1-2 inches and is now a skilled 210 big but soft, he will be easy in the U18 eurpeanp championship, you can´t taech size and he has size + talent but doesn´t know exactly how talented he is..........We could even see the very talented SF Ege Akcay(06, Dacka) in the league, one of the biggest potentials in the turkish bb. I wouldn´t be surprised if he adds 2-3 more inches and end up as PF. You can compare Ege Akcay to Tibet Görener and you can see easily tha Ege is much more talented because of the ability to beat his opponent, this is the huge difference........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bC32-mrkQc you can see him with no 20

                • Very solid game of Sadik Emir Kabaca again in the CL. Where should I start? He defends the post very hard and his freaking long arms helps him a lot. Considering that he will get much stronger he will be a great post defender in the future. He makes sometimes small positioning mistakes but in general a great defense of him.

Also his perimeter defense is very solid due to his length and fast legs. He gives too much space for shooters atm. but still he defends good, its also better than to cause 3 free throws.

His biggest problem is his body coordination and grab feelings. He doesnt give much trust by grabbing the ball but after he secures his position in the post he finds wonderful solutions to finish in the post, great legs and size, Ahmet Gürgen school after all.

He has a great outside shot touch either and could be much more efficient than he is right now. He shots too hasty and unprepared. He cant create shots at all but the open ones you can let him take. He is offensively even more versatile than Sengün and has better defensive upside.

The only thing that he cant do is rebounding. He doesnt know how to box out and position himself for rebounds.

I think surely not now but in 3-4 years he could land in the NBA after all. I would be very surprised if some EL teams dont knock on the door of Galatasaray at the end of the season for him.

                    • So apparently Afyon will finish the rest of their season with solely Turkish players and those from their youth team. I'm guessing there was likely some financial reason behind this but in terms of youth development, will it work out?

                        • Tibet Gorener again with a very solid performance for Michigan. 13 points and 6 rebounds. 50% average from three right now with solid defense. He is showing what a sharpshooter he is.

                          • Great 10 minutes of Berke Büyüktuncel. Made two mistakes on defense but locked up Tyus during his time against Karsiyaka. Really difficult to beat him on 1 vs. 1. Did also great job defending in the post and also the perimeter. Lost his man off ball once and bad positioning also once. Must be more active around the rim. I think next season we can expect him to be a serious BSL player. Very good off the dribble mid range jumper. Shoots very well.

                            • Demir Dogan had second game this season. First of all the quality of the macedonian league is bad, fairly bad but nevertheless he plays against grown men really heavy minutes but the team needs time to adapt him to its game. The american pg of the team is horrible. He sees nothing.

Demir took early 3 fouls and become active in the second half. Defended well, very well but he was not there in offense.

Samet Yigitoglu on the other hand, had a good game.

                              • Sarper David Mutaf is delivering for the second team of Gran Canaria and is becoming an all around scorer. He showed some pick and roll initiator upside 2 years ago but he changed to a totally different direction. Bad defender but can score in many ways. He has averaged 19 points with high fgp so far. Should get a lift to the a team next season.
