  • An unexpected performance of Efes U18 team. They defeated after Zaragossa also Brno. Ozan Yilmaz 03 was managing the game with 13 assists. He must improve many many things but his current skill set is promising. Liked Tekin Yigit 04 also a lot especially around the rim. Has a really convincing mid range shot and can create a lot for himself with his BBIQ.

The most interesting guy should be Koralp Türk though. A stretch four guy with golden fingers and some court vision. Slow footed but he should be ok for Europe with his good positioning knowledge. Its a Euroleague stretch four candidate if he keeps working.

    • Alperen Sengün again with a very solid game today against Dacka. A very hard game with pace on both ends. Sengün again with some sugar passes and monster putbacks and dunks. His body really is getting in shape. Legs are still weak but much stronger than in the beginning of the season. I think one summer should be enough to solve this problem. His face up game also developed this season. Lacks height for NBA but not for Europe, his athleticism is really thriving in comparison to last season.

He ended with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and had 2 TO

Sehmus Hazer also had a very successful game with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. This guy has a really outstanding speed but he must learn when to attack the rim. Shot mechanics are not half bad. I think he will develop a solid shot in time especially when he knows where to shoot and when. Wont probably a real combo guard, far to sloppy as a passer but he has some not much court vision.

      • Angt Belgrade started today and two Turkish players are participating. The 2 meter tall play maker Eray Büyükcangaz (04) for Buducnost and Efe Tahmaz (04) for Partizan Belgrade. Efe Played 25 minutes for Partizan against Maccabi and had 4 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals. Did a good job on the defensive end and didnt use many balls on the offensive end.

Erays game is about to start. Here you can watch the game.

        • Erays team Buducnost won against Kuban. Eray made some unnecessary TOs by footing on the line but i am very happy about his decision making, also his shot looked very promising. He ended his game with 19 points 2/3 from the three point line 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Very fast first step allows him to make some gravity passes. Struggled finishing at the rim because he still lacks power but he got stronger and taller.

Didnt like coaches decision to use him mostly as forward. Very good offensive game but defensively he couldnt reach his potential. Very lazy perimeter defense, stucked most of the times in screens and didnt fight. A 201cm play maker with 210 wingspan shouldnt give up that easily. Anyway he has potential to guard guards and small forwards and even some power forwards with his tools once he bulked up.

I expect him to end up as a 203 guard. Hoped of an Diamantidis type guard but he doesnt like defending.

              • Eurohopes on Eray Büyükcangaz in the Angt tournament in Belgrade.

Who was the most surprising player?
I will go with Eray Buyukcangaz (’04) from Buducnost and Dragos Lungu (‘04) from U-BT Cluj. It's difficult to separate those two players since both of them are very gifted players with great bodies and with room for improvement. Both of them can play the PG spot successfully, have a great feeling for the game, and can score in many different ways: driving both ways, moreover, shooting pretty well from behind the three-point line and also able to guard 1-3 with ease.
I wasnt very happy about his defense in the first game but a 6'7 play maker with at least 6'10 wingspan can be found that easily and he still at least one more year to grow. A play maker with great handles in a body of a power forward. He was one year ago 6'5 and grew two inches.

                • Watched the last 2 games of Adem Bona with Prolific and here is my takeaway:

He really exposed his defensive potential. Relentless motor and focus, helping out with his guard speed and 7'4 wingspan everywhere. The best weak side defender in Europe for sure. A really deadly combination of speed, motor and wingspan. Unfortunately his current level doesnt show much of pick and roll action so that I couldnt take a clear picture but he has also elite tools to be a very good pick and roll defender. His biggest contribution is his chase down block abilities

                  Look at this

The guy he is blocking is Kennedy Chandler who is considered as the best guard prospect of the States

His post defense is also not bad. He doesnt back away and has no chance to be bad with his wingspan. He moves with his man and follows him if its needed.

His offensive arsenal is still quite limited. He just works as a lob target and plays some post games but he is not very nifty at it. His feelings in the fingers are still bad but there are also small improvements and he grew a bit more and is 6'10 right now.

                  • Especially our U18 team is a insanely gifted defense team. A lineup with Büyükcangaz, Tuna, Büyüktuncel, Mestoglu and Bona has a tremendous defensive upside. Can switch from 1 to 5 everything, elite perimeter defense no matter who is in charge, elite rim protection but an average offensive upside.

What could be our potential squad for the U19 world cup? Do we have any good point guards 02-04?

Enes Bayraktar (02) - nothing outstanding but good energy and motor, has been playing in TBL with heavy responsibility
Ömer Ege Peksari (03) - not a big fan of him either, shooting is a problem and everything else is average
Berkay Yilmaz (03) - speedy Gonzales, good offensive game, can shoot and drive ok offensive threat but liability in defense, around 1,80 tall
Eray Büyükcangaz (04) - Has more upside than the three above him. Huge talent but at least 2 years younger than possible.
Ege Tan Yildizoglu (04) - With Eray the best PG prospect that we have in youth. Its a topic who has more potential Eray or Ege but both are very solid talents.

I think from this bunch of player Enes Bayraktar is set, the other one is a question mark.

About the possible rosters. Here is my opinion

                        U18

Ege Tan Yildizoglu, Berkay Yilmaz, Ozan Yilmaz
                        Eray Büyükcangaz, Batin Tuna
Efe Tahmaz, Haktan Yavas (Bora Yasar)
                        Berke Büyüktuncel, Yigit Mestoglu
Adem Bona, Koralp Türk, Bülent Hamza Celik

                        U19

                        Enes Bayraktar, Berkay Yilmaz
David Mutaf, Batin Tuna, Bora Satir
                        Tibet Gorener, Bora Yasar
                        Koralp Türk, Yigit Onan
                        Furkan Haltali, Adem Bona

Alperen Sengün probably wont play because he will be with the NT in Canada for the qualifiers or in prep

                        • November 2006 born Demir Dogan is listed as the first prospect in the 2006 born generational ranking by Eurohopes. He is listed as 6'9 with a huge wingspan. He is very fast and can create easily for himself and loves to push the ball to the other side. Can handle the ball very well considering how tall and young he is.

He played 7 minutes in Europe cup with the a team and showed really promising defensive flashes.

                          • On other hand, that's the guys who have 1999 Uleckas at 4th spot (had him even at 2)... Not to take anything away from Dogan which I didn't see him.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

                            Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
                            Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
                            Buzelis, Lelevicius
                            Murauskas, Sirvydis
                            Tubelis, Krivas

                            • Eray Buyukcangaz (’04), Buducnost Voli Podgorica, 6’7”, G
                              15.5pts, 2FG-40%, 3FG-40%, FT-81.8%, 3.8reb, 2.3ast, 1.3stl, 3to, 0.3blk

Eray is a very capable shooter from behind the arc with a beautiful looking form and nice range, but not nearly as efficient off the dribble as he is from the spot. Good at shifting gears, navigates pretty well in traffic, but forces his way inside sometimes. As a facilitator, he had moments where he missed wide open teammates but usually done an okay job sharing the rock on the move. Average frame and a bit lanky, needs to add more muscle which would definitely help him absorb more contact on his sneaky penetrations inside where he struggles with physicality. Similarly, on defense he doesn’t seem to handle contact very well. Average at best on that end of the floor, has an okay slide, but not the best at getting over screens and usually keeps his hands down. Had some good moments jumping in front of telegraphed passes, but too often sacrifices his position for steals and finds himself completely lost.
Eurospects recap on Eray Büyükcangaz referring to the Angt Belgrade tournament.

Yeah he needs to bulk up but this is not very concerning. He definitely is able to create for himself even in the low post. He has an average frame but its enough to play even some post games in the future and create for others from there. The next point is his shots off the dribble. He is not efficient but he takes shots off the dribble.

His problem of not seeing open guys is because he is new in the team and hasnt played bb for a certain time. He is a great drive and kick gravitation passer who also likes to work on the base line. Not being able to play through contact limits him very much at the moment but he has a solid touch around the rim and his speed coordination and wingspan allows him to make tough layups.

His defensive motor and will was a question mark. He got better in time but he isnt willing to defend his potential allows him to do. I am not sure if this his attitude or if its just because he is new in Montenegro with the team. His lateral quickness and wingspan allows him to defend 1,2,3 positions with ease

Definitely a guy who is able to make the jump to the NBA but I cant say that he is NBA material. He must work on his weaknesses and must demand the ball more.

                              • Demir Dogan is the only guy I can claim without hesitation to be a NBA material player. This guy is a freak of nature. 14 and half year old and already 6'9 with a 7'1 wingspan and a fluidity I never saw on a Turkish wing. Here is an older Video of him.
