Adem Bona with a strong statement in his first game of the season. Elite defender, there is zero doubt about that. He can easily defend five positions without any problem but he also shows glimpses of development on the offensive end, especially as a rolling big.

Adem Bona has particularly shown significant progress in his basketball over the past two years. The main reason for this improvement is attributed to Bona starting basketball relatively late, which initially hindered his full mastery of basketball fundamentals. However, with his strengthened body, he has become more capable of applying the basic principles of the game on the court. Rapid basketball training has allowed him to dribble the ball to some extent, apply few footworks and free throws at a reasonably acceptable level, despite not being at an advanced level. These are developments that are already in the bag.

Put that aside, the most disappointing player for me so far has been Bona. Without delving too much into his offensive capabilities or shortcomings, his inability to execute the expected smart defense in the defensive area is causing a serious disappointment, and as a result, his draft stock has clearly dropped. From a serious prospect like Bona, one would expect him to grasp the intricacies of the game at this point. However, he still relies on his physical explosiveness rather than his intelligence in defense. His foolish fouls, jumping at every ball, and excessive reliance on his athleticism lead to serious mistakes on defensive area. Unfortunately, with his current state, he does not have the potential to make a difference in the NBA. Defensive moves that involve standing one's ground against the opponent are more valuable than a chasedown block. Bona needs to transition from being a highlight-reel high-flyer player to becoming a more composed and smart player in the defensive aspect of basketball. In his current state, Bona appears to be far from the defensive master identity we need. We don't expect him to be just a good defender, we want him to become an elite defender.
Sports is not only considered as a superiority of physical capability. Perception, intelligence and morality assist it as well. The strong with less intelligence and comprehension can not cope with the less strong but with sufficient intelligence and comprehension. I like the sportsman who is intelligent, agile as well as morally upright.

We shouldnt be too harsh with him. He needs time to figure out several things on the court. He has the physical attributes to become an elite defender. I am also sure that his offensive capacity will grow in time.

It is impossible to watch any UCLA game. So boring and low quality. Sad that Buyuktuncel decided to go NCAA. Also, I wish Bona got drafted last year. Now, he might play in g league etc. At least, he might make trainings with real NBA players. It is a lost season for both.

College basketball in general have always been quite boring and low quality to me not just UCLA. The funniest thing is that Americans believe that the competition there is much better quality wise than the Euroleague and other top European leagues while the NCAA is not even close.
