Saras went there for two reasons. One is family (still in Athens with newborn child) and second is better quality of basketball and more chances of advancing in the Euroleague.
Fenerbahce has a shot to get to the F4 and being some 1-2 hours from Athens by plane is good for him, being closer to his family, even if he had to leave Lithuania
I already wrote in other thread, that his family lived together with him in Vilnius.
What do you mean never even mentioned Turkey and Fener?
If you were Saras, would you go to Israel in your best age just for money unless they were one of the tittle challengers?
You can not persuade players in that calibre by money, you should give them oppportunity to win tittles.
Yes, we were not a top team before, that's why he would not mention Fener.
But now we are one of the F4 contenders, so its normal that big players will prefer us. More than money, their choices depend on opportunities to win tittles...
barça wanted him last year and he said some time ago (he isa great barça fan) but when we want him he said 2millions € or nothings. Titles? No prolbem we won 3/4 tittles last year

What did you expect when his salary before was almost twice higher? Btw he extended with PAO for more or less the same money if I remember correctly
Hm, might be. But wasn't Saras asking for 2mln too in the beginning? I surely remember this number from some articles after PAO won EL title and negotiation about extension started

Yes he was. He was also asking for a closed 2 year contract but PAO gave him a 1+1. As long as he could deliver on 2009-10, PAO would extend his contract for 1 more year and 1.3m. He didn't and they didn't.In fact, when PAO canceled the contract in June, there were rumors that Saras was willing to sign for less than 0.5m, but Obradovic didn't think Saras could help PAO, since PAO would live and die on defense this season.
Although I don't want Fener to be successfull, with this transfer , they are better than Efes. Saras is very good transfer for Fener and Fener have serious chance to make f4.
long_term options
*I like the possibility of EFES to reach f4
*I hate Pao
*don't want Greek loby in IBN
*crazygreen is sympathetic interbasket citizen altough he is from greek loby.accepted Greek loby members:crazygreen,Fedfan,Mysh ArkadiosV2

*After Barac, Omic is silly player too .
Even with the addition of Saras, surely FB cannot be considered as a Euroleague contender. Although i must say, that the way the big clubs are playing this season, it is more open that previous seasons

You haven't watch them play this season, didn't you?
They were a legit contender before they signed Saras and remain one now.

i have. And the play really well. But every season there are outsiders that compete and fight, but winning a trophy takes more than this. And it is really hard for a club to win the Euroleague, without ever being present to a final four before. Of course, as the ad says: Impossible is nothing...

I agree with you.
It's sure that we have a good chance for F4, but being a tittle contender in EL not so easy, you need experience and habit more than good play or roster.
And also support from the refs of course...
Yes, we have a good team this year, also good players. But we're not experienced enough to play in this level. So, too early for us yet.
Keeping this success for 2-3 years more will make us one of the firm favourites of EL.
Because we have everything for that. Fans, money and good technical staff...
An example from volleyball...
Last year Fenerbahçe Acıbadem was the best team of Europe.
Won all the games 3-0 till the final, but lost final to Bergamo 3-2.
That's what i say, experience...

don't think so, Bergoma had more potential. They had experienced player and Fener Acıbadem had silly Turkish woman players. Only foregin players were good in Fener but Turkish players were silly but In Bergoma all players were experienced and good Italian players(and Piccinini were so beatiful ) so not good example

I see where you're getting from You might be right, I hope you're not, though. I prefered the 90ies when 23 different teams got to F4, compared to only 14 in the last decade... at those times surprises were more often in basketball, including F4 appearances and titles.
My Christmas wish would be, none of the usual powerhouses gets to F4 at all Not that I believe it would happen, but with these new rules chances for that happening are way better than in the past decade...
Aside the wishes... if Fener players stay healthy and Sinan Erden remains packed, I believe they're actually among the most likely contendants for F4.
