  • Semih Erden to NBA?

Boston Realizes Value of the Euro - Boston Herald, July 4, 2010, By Steve Bulpett

Semih Erden was in attendance for practice yesterday, but the proper transfer of paperwork prevented him from officially joining his summer league teammates with the Celtics [team stats]. He should be hanging around for the “winter league,” as well.

The Celts are in the process of signing the 7-footer to a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

Erden was the team’s second-round draft pick in 2008, the 60th and last selection overall. He’s continued to play in his native Turkey, and once he saw his chance to take a shot in the NBA, the soon-to-be 24-year-old was eager to make the move....
I'm a fan of Erden. He's a very solid player with a great body. Boston would do well to sign him, especially now that Rasheed Wallace is leaving.
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

As a Turkish, I can say that Semih Erden isn't good enough to play in NBA
      Turkish National Team in 2016

PG : Kenan Sipahi - Dogus Balbay - Kartal Özmızrak
SG : Melih Mahmutoğlu - Furkan Korkmaz - Cedi Osman
SF : Metecan Birsen - Okben Ulubay
PF : Ersan Ilyasova - Ilkan Karaman - Furkan Aldemir
C : Omer Asik - Enes Kanter - Emircan Kosut

Hopefully this would be the year he comes to Boston. I remember Jiri Welsch and Dino Radja as noteable International players on the Celtics roster.

Semih Erden played for the Boston Celtics Summer League Game and despite limited minutes, he showed aggresiveness on challenging Byron Mullens and Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma Thunder. It can also be noted that Erden is active on setting pics and being ready to catch and shoot. Too bad Lafayette lobbed the ball too many times to Jaycee Carroll and the other big men.

If you cared to read my posts pre-EC2009 and if you have a good enough memory, you'll remember I was bashing Tanjevic for choosing "that tree" for the NT. Well, I saw him live during the EC, and he made me eat my words. It looks like he can play at the highest European competitions. Still not sure about his chances with the Celtics, though.
