Round-Up: Game To Honour Basketball In Serbia
A glittering array of talent will be on show on Wednesday when Serbia celebrates 85 years of basketball in the country with a game between its domestic-based stars against a squad of foreign-based players.
The contest will also mark the Serbian Basketball Federation's (KSS) 60th anniversary.
The game between "Our ours" and "Our foreigners" will see Dusko Vujosevic (Partizan) and Stevan Karadzic (Hemofarm) as coaches of the "hosts" while Unics' Aco Petrovic and Panionios' Aleksandar Trifunovic will take care of the "visitors".
Basketball was founded in 1891 and soon after it reached this area," said Vujosevic, who is also the coach of Montenegro's national team.
"Since then, as a basketball country, we've reached numerous successes and it is really hard to point out who was most responsible for those achievements.
"But, our basketball tradition is long and tradition is the thing we should take care of. Basketball is not just a value of our society, it's our pearl."
Vujosevic and Karadzic will be in charge of the team which has Aleksandar Rasic (Partizan), Stefan Markovic (Hemofarm), Milenko Tepic (Partizan), Uros Tripkovic (Partizan), Bojan Krstovic (Hemofarm), Marko Keselj (Red Star), Novica Velickovic (Partizan), Nemanja Bjelica (Red Star), Dragan Labovic (FMP), Milan Macvan (Hemofarm), Boban Marjanovic (Hemofarm) and Miroslav Raduljica (FMP).
Petrovic and Trifunovic will coach Bojan Popovic (Bruesa), Nenad Krstic (Triumph), Ognjen Askrabic (Triumph), Vanja Plisnic (Ural), Dusan Kecman (Panathinaikos), Branko Cvetkovic (Panionios), Ivan Zoroski (Panionios), Miroslav Raicevic (Panionios), Milos Teodosic (Olympiakos), Zoran Erceg (Olympiakos), Stevan Nadjfeji (Panelinios) and Ivan Radenovic (Panelinios).
