He played well in the first half. Ivkovic pleyed him,Markovic and Vujanic. He had some sweet passes. I like one behind the back to Krstic, but Krstic got fouled. No doubt he will be our starting pg.He played against Holden.

Serbia coach reflects on EuroBasket qualifiers:
Ivkovic: Milicic pays price of early departure to NBA
- “We’ve already started our preparations for the 2009 EuroBasket in Poland,” says Serbia basketball team head coach Dusan Ivkovic after an emphatic qualifying campaign for the 2009 European Basketball Championships, which Serbia ended topping Group A with 7 wins and only one defeat.
The experienced coach has created a positive atmosphere around the national team, guided Serbia through the qualifying campaign to the final tournament in Poland and put Serbian basketball back on the map.
- “When the team got together we put two goals before ourselves: a short-term one – to make it to the EuroBasket, and a long-term one – to create a team which will be able to play a significant role at all forthcoming competitions, up until the Olympic Games in London,” says Ivkovic.
- “I wouldn’t have accepted the job if I hadn’t thought we were able to qualify for the EuroBasket. We possess the quality, the lads work really hard and there’s no reason why Serbia shouldn’t progress with time. Now the next focus should be on making it to the 2010 World Championships in Turkey, which will come with a good result in Poland. Also, I would like to reiterate that we are not in the process of restoring the national team atmosphere, but creating a new one from scratch, and I hope we make it. Naturally, there are problems, but I wouldn’t discuss those right now.”
Problems and obstacles are imminent in any professional sport effort, while one of them could be the case of Darko Milicic, a major Serbian basketball talent, but one who is in constant struggle with his own temper and personality.
- “I believe Milicic went to the NBA too early and everything that has been going on with him is the consequence of that fact. I will need to be in regular contact with his agents and club staff in order to be able to count him in, which everyone here would want.”
Ivkovic once more reflected on the hard work and discipline the team put in during the qualifying campaign, a trait teams from previous years could hardly boast.
- “I don’t know if there has been anything to feed the tabloids with. There have been some stories of lads partying in the past days. That may not be true, but the papers wrote about it nonetheless,” Ivkovic made his final remark jokingly.
