I'd prefer to read more interesting analytical political and economic stuff than the yellow "soap operas" that dominate our newspapers... The best thing we have is lots of basketball press

Yes, it is the only printed weekly basketball journal, but no other country in europe has a WEEKLY newspaper or journal on basketball

Besides, I think we have quite a variety of Internet basketball sites and, of course, they tend to repeat each other, but compared with many other countries, we have access to lots of updated info on basketball.

Speaking in quality terms, I like www.acb.com or even www.kosarka.hr better.

Look what I found... I wonder how bad it actually sounds. The last time I saw them they were touching themselves on stage. And yet some idiot decided that they are good enough for an official league song. Haha, my Baltic friends, you are about to experience some of the best Lithuanian music.

Oh, one last but not the least novelty of this season. Lithuanian pop group NEO who were very close to being sent to the Eurovision Song Contest last year composed and performed the SEB BBL 2006/2007 season song. “BBL – where the action is” will definitely be heard and sung around.

crappy song... I don't like it at all... I just listened to it 2 mins ago and I could't even whistle the melody of that "song" right now... sad...
One day the tides will turn
One day the fields will burn
One day the seas will churn
The fury of our maker’s hand

I would be thankful if somebody could translate it, or maybe write what's the current status of Buskevics and Blums, especially Buskevics is interesting for me...
Why you should going out to get a hamburger, if you can get steak at home?

                  Short version:
Barons/LMT and ASK are interested in getting Jānis Blūms and Sandis BuÅ¡kevics (BuÅ¡kevics said today in the interwiev to radio that only ASK and other foreign club is interested in him so this article isn't up to date. BuÅ¡kevics said that only if they can't agree with that foreign club he mentioned he would love to play in ASK Riga). Barons seems to be interested in getting Blūms from LR- Rytas don't want him now so they are thinking they can lend him to other Lithuanian or latvian clubs.
Barons/LMT also has interest about Juris Umbraško

A question concerning the BBL competition system (which was changed a lot this year).

Will the points, collected in the first stage (underway presently), be preserved and counted in the second stage? (two divisions of 6 and 8 teams) Or they'll reset the counter and will start from zero again?

Has somebody of our Latvian guys been yesterday to the match Barons - Zalgiris in Riga? Our press praises the atmosphere of Riga arena and that it was finally filled with 11.000 people + 1,500 who wanted to get in, but did not manage to

Something of an unbelievlable sort as far as basketball is concerned in Latvia lately! What would be happening if Euroleague comes one day to Riga?.. Or was it only because of Ainars's issues with Barons and Zalgiris' brand??

Imo, Riga has a great potential for basketball development! I somehow get an impression that there are not too many choices of sports event for Latvian fans - no true international club competition in Latvia on weekly basis in other popular sports like football or ice hockey, so basketball can realy be an attractive option!

Here are some links to photos from the ASK Riga - Lietuvos Rytas game, which took place a week or so ago. They were published in some Latvian magazine. joker was visiting Riga on Sunday with Žalgiris fans and bought the magazine.

Steponas Babrauskas scored 27 points against his former team. After the game the general manager of Lietuvos Rytas came to him with accuses like "Traitor, traitor!" That was enough for the hot-bloded lithuanian guard.

Ugis Vilums came by to help his teammate and pushed Jonas Vainauskas away

Eurelijus Žukauskas tried to act as a piecemaker

                          The cover of the magazine

Polish "Basket" magazine is produced every week, even if every week I am worrying that it will broke down. But it's still on the market.
I would guess than Spain for sure have AT LEAST one weekly basketball magazine, but maybe I'm wrong...

11000 it was but only because of these Barons cards that have been given to many fans- you can go to Barons games for free with these cards.
Riga actually has a potential- football clubs are two there- one 7th in the Latvian league, second ''Skonto'' only 3rd and football is still more russian then latvian sport in Riga.
In ice hockey we are now also playing only in our domestic championship and the level is not high (mostly because young talents from U-20, u-18 teams go to prove themselves in canadian, russian, american and other junior leagues)
Volleyball our teams play in one league with Estonians but it isn't the top sport.
Basketball is getting better now in Riga, more money, better players, new Arena and eventually people will come. After ASK-Rytas there were up to 6000 spectators in a game ASK-Tartu.

Rytas continue their string of unconvincing performances in the BBL - this time winning 77:79 away at Tartu after an overtime.

And the start of ULEB Cup is approaching fast - the first guests from Vršac are coming to Vilnius on 31 October. One week to get ready.
