  • I hope it will be a guy called Mike Shaft commentating. If it is the BBC though i expect it to be john Amaechi, and the other guy who did the Olympics.

Do you use the word "mate" for girls as well? My american friend calls me buddy, but i find it very masculine and don't like it very much

Anyways, I thought the main team in London were the Towers... hell, you've got to spread basketball all over your country!

        • I disagree, Shaft has a very good commentating voice & is very knowledgeable. Sometimes he goes a bit OT, but i think that will work in the favour of fans viewing, maybe for the first time.

Who would you like to hear commentating?

Lol, i'm a man, but find it very strange to call a female "mate".

Then don't you all call me mate

              • I think mainly in the context of 'mate' for females we are talking about- for example lions mating...ha ha

Shaft-actually that is a great name..bloody brilliant name..
To be honest maybe you have a point in that he could create a bit of excitement and has a bit of knowledge, compared to the others of the past who don't even follow basketball , so in that respect i think you are right.

By the way Nate Reinking at the PG, i am not sure about that. He was always a 2 man.

From what I remember everyone calls everyone mate in the UK
But it's more like "cheers mate" and everyone's had quite a lot to drink .

The word most likely to be used for a girl though is "lass".
Or they can call a girl "darling'' or "love" (I don't know if u say "ciao bella" in Italy though).

Back on topic. Just go for Amaechi as the commentator. At least the guy was an NBA player and knows what he's talking about

One problem...he love nothing more than GB to fail, well the organisation anyway.

                      Why is that?

                      • He has always had chip on his shoulder. He still thinks the organisation is spending there funds unwisely, where as it couldn't be any different. A couple of years ago he was kicked off the board at England Basketball for being to opinonated. He needs to support team GB, from the organisation to the team, and everything in between. Speak to anyone involved in British ball, and they'll tell you the same, if not worse.

At the moment i think, going with Gordon & Reinking will be the best option as we need to be a constant threat from 3 point land. Reinking can defo handle the ball as well as Gordon can. With those 2 on floor, and Deng we can be a huge 3 point threat. We need to be hitting 40-45% 3 pointers to stand a chance of going through. Hopefully our inside game will look after itself, as we will match up well, hopefully better than 2 of the 3 opponents at least. I said last year our 3 point game is the key to winning the group, but i didn't realise how dominat we were inside. This time it will be definately different....big shots will have to be made! Last season we hit 37.4% 3 pointers, but i don't think we ran that offense too much, so improvement will be made.

Just looked at 3 point percentages from Eurobasket 2007 and found that Slovenia shot 32%, Spain 38.9%, & Serbia only 23.8%.....very interesting!!!

                          • Yip, i agree, the shots must be dropping to stand a chance.
Inside we have proven Big Men at the highest level in Europe with Archibald and Betts so hopefully they will hold their own.
Roll on September-this GB team i will support.
I won't support the GB Football team at the Olympics though! ha ha

Me neither! However this has pi**ed me off a bit because it will take the countries eyes off the basketball team. Basketball now is the biggest draw, barring athletics in the Olympics, so to have football take over this (well for the London Olympics) is a kick in the nuts for people like me who wants Basketball to hit the big time in the media. Am i right in thinking Olympic football is for under 23's anyway? Hopefully that will take the gloss off it a bit.

                              • I am losing interest in football as officiating is really bad. . . having watched Champions' League matches, i was exasperated with with those unfair decisions. . . they say officiating in basketball are also below par but i don't agree with them officiating in basketball is way above, better than football. Deputizing 3 referees plus the use of video reviews in contested calls makes officiating in basketball more credible than that of football.

I am supporting Team GB football team in Olympics but not the same vigour as i'm going to show for its basketball counterpart. . .
