That's what I'm talking about. 23min, 13pts, 9rbs, 2 steals. Not perfect from the field, but that's Tubelis I know. Gotta keep aggressive. Tubelis action at 1:16:

I snatched only explicit highlight of 2 first Tubelis' game, but it's easy to say he's playing much more as a big compared to what I've seen before. He look bigger, he sets tough screens, he roles to the basket or clears the path for guards. NCAA coaches prepared and changed him in a short time impressively. On other hand, I hope he won't lose his signature, face up explosive drives making slower and softer defenders look miserable, he shouldn't be reduced to mere screen and role defensive big, he's more skilled than that. I guess it's a process of taking everything together and finding out the best possible balance.
Azuolas’ stock is up
Azuolas Tubelis was quiet against Grambling State, but flashed his versatile skillset against Eastern Washington. He made mid-range jumpers, pushed and finished in transition, and did a great job of making himself available around the rim on drives.
The freshman played the 4 and the 5, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds on 5-of-12 shooting, earning MVP honors from KenPom. Miller said we can expect more of that from the Lithuanian forward.
“He’s a lot like Zeke Nnaji and Deandre Ayton in that he has like this uncanny touch from about 15 to 17 feet—those tough baseline jump shots, elbow jumpers just inside the 3-point line that sometimes you’re like, ‘I don’t know if that’s a good shot,’” Miller said. “That is a good shot for him. And I think his range will continue to grow and increase as he gets older and practices more. And most importantly, and I saw it with Lauri Markkanen, he’s starting to learn the physicality around the basket. He is more sure of himself, he pursued the ball with two hands. A couple of times of he got fouled he was very close to finishing and he helped us on the offensive glass more. But he’s getting more accustomed to the difference of style, but he played very good tonight. I don’t think we would have won the ballgame if he didn’t take the step forward that he did take.”

I'm surprised how much attention NCAA team gets. Their every game is talked and analysed like to it would be an NBA or EL team. Press confs take time. Most players are discussed after each game. That's the culture of USA BB fellows. Tubelis so far seems to have the same problem as Domas had in his first NCAA season, foul prone and he had a little injury, maybe that affected crappy game as well:
Azuolas struggled, but at least he avoided a serious injury
It was a tough night for Azuolas Tubelis, who failed to build on the 13-point, 9-rebound outburst he had against Eastern Washington.
He fouled out in just 10 minutes and battled an ankle injury he suffered in the first half while hedging a screen. Tubelis went to the locker room for a moment, but returned to the game, so we can assume it’s a pretty ailment.
“These freshmen are freshmen,” Miller made sure to note. “They’re gonna learn. Sometimes they’re going to play really well and other times, they may not have as good a game as we’d like them to have. But those guys are important to us.”

I was a bit surprised not being able to find Tubelis in the top 100. Maybe I overlooked him but if hes not on the list its a big mistake when they put guys like Hukporti. I think the draft of Tubelis will depend on his on-ball creation

He needs shooting, at least decent shooting to climb higher as a prospect.

As I predicted Tubelis grew to the size of a center. Now he's listet 6'11 and 245 pounds. In comparison Domas Sabonis is 6'11 and 240 pounds. So Tubelis is three kilos bigger already. Size is there to be dominant 5/4. The start has been lesser than I expected, but once he'll adjust to NCAA he'll be balling. I even think freshman's status is still limiting his playing time, Americans treat their rotations much more formally and nominally than in Europe.

It's only a start of the season, but seems I was wrong expecting more dominant start of Tubelis than Sabonis had his first season with Gonzaga. Seems like trajectory is very similar, even though Tubelis still can make a leap during the season:
18yo D. Sabonis 9.7pts, 7.1rbs in 21.6min
18yo A. Tubelis 7,6pts, 5rbs in 18min
What I like about Tubelis is that he really takes long jump shots and threes. That decreases his 2FG %, but that's the direction to go. Thus far 2/6 from three, 33,3% is something really decent to go with at this stage of development. He started the game for the first time and snatched 29 minutes, providing all around impact.
Watch Tubelis facilitating from perimeter, very natural touch:

Tubelis officially landed on USA soil! Dropped 31pts, only second freshman to do it under Miller (first is Deandre Ayton). Lately he's balling and now exceeding Domas Sabonis freshman season numbers. Wildcats is guards team, three guards are their main guys, but now Tubelis establishing himself as potentially the best on the team, playing around thirty minutes each game. I expected something like that scoring wise even earlier, but his development has been incredible. I mean how he sets the screens, how he post ups, cleans the way and stuff, he wasn't doing that stuff in NKL, so greeting to great coaching of Wildcats staff:

Tubelis reaches certain consistency already. He's in double figures last 5 games. It's great that he actually shoots threes here and there with a good accuracy thus far. In comparison, Sabonis didn't shot a single three in his freshman season.
Here's the race between Domas, Kleiza and Azualas stats wise thus far (all 18yo freshmen):
Tubelis 22.7min, 11,2pts(49.5/42.9), 6rbs
Sabonis 21,6min, 9,7pts(66/0), 7.1rbs
Kleiza 23.1min, 11,1pts(44/45), 8,5rbs
Here explicit 5min highs (both O and D) of his best game:

And LOL on James Akinjo. He threw up a crazy three instead of looking to open TubelisThe guy has terrible body language, barely shakes hands when other scores. Typical selfish American PG who shoots 36.0 from the field. That's the worse part of Tubelis campaign in Arisona, because I think Akinjo guy (main PG of Arisona) is a cunt, at least now, maybe will grow up.
