  • Rough days for Saras...If Barsa blows this season too, he's a gonner, IMO.

Maksvytis, on other hand, with right pieces looks like a coach. Now we should ripen up Sedekerskis, Tubelis, Krivas, Murauskas for the NT (defensively capable frontline) and Maksvytis will have the roster to be successful. That won't happen instantly, but if Maksvytis shows improvements in 2023 WC I would keep him long term. We should try to make our Sergio Scariolo/Vincen Collet out of Maksvytis. He's a good fit. Player's coach (unlike Saras), doesn't overcomplicate things (which suits FIBA tournaments), but also is able to control the team to to provide solid set of plays. If he will become a bit more matured in terms of tactics and game control (he tends to miss some important time-outs), I think he has an upside to become serious NT coach.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

    Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
    Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
    Buzelis, Lelevicius
    Murauskas, Sirvydis
    Tubelis, Krivas

    • Laprovittola who always used to be a mediocre player (especially because of not good defense) is a top scorer in Barca. Before that his best season was in Rytas in Eurocup. It's a huge improvement, but on other hand when your best player is Lapro and you are a top team i don't think it's a good one. And it's not a case of a young player.

Some people expected that Jokubaitis will be improving a lot under Saras, but it's been Argentinian pg on a scene so far.

Lapro always was good offensively. Even in Real. But Saras forced him to play decent D too which was surprise.

As for Jokubatis, he's on a little slump, but he's improving gradually. Now he's better than ever. Still second most valuable player for Barca in ACB - 11,4eff. The problem maybe only is that his minutes is not increasing in EL. But when there's Satoransky, Lapro, Higgins, Abrines (and then there's still injured Kuric) it's hard to expect a lot of minutes.

Well, no. In his second season in Real in EL he averaged about 7 pts in 17 min. Before that in the same Real and Basconia he had small minutes meaning he wasn't good enough.
Even in Eurocup he wasn't any special player offensively. In Rytas he averaged 12 pts in 27 min. In Zenit - 9 pts in 17 min. He was only really good in Joventud. He often had limited minutes. Really hasn't been any special player before Barca.

          • Barca is playing impotent basketball offensively. I don't think Saras will ever win EL with such basketball. That's yesterday's basketball. It's more like anti-basketball. Reading mismatches all the time, moving the ball mechanically, no passion or improvisation. When you natural instincts and initiative, you have a dead team. And today to me Barca's ball looks dead.

Surprising it seemed that Barca was ready to extend with him when he accepts a salary cut after he won ACB. Lets wait and see if Barca can maintain the level Saras had established.

At that time they were 15-16 y.o. Where you and Auris could see them playing much if they only were going to participate in their first FIBA champ? And in that following U16 EC Velicka, Vasiliauskas and Uleckas were averaging 10 pts. So, for that moment that ranking wasn't crazy at all.

Btw, i remember eurohoops ranked Uleckas as one of the top prospects of 99 generation. I believe it wasn't done by Lith coaches.

They were putting Grantas at the top or top 3 for several years at this age group. And putting Uleckas only at 10 also is stupid. In that age group he was clearly top 3 player.

So Barcelona topping the regular season standings in Euroleague two out of the last three seasons and winning the Spanish League championship in two of the last three seasons including 2023 wasn't good enough for somebody.
