In France, BTW, the only League with one final game, they decided to delete it from the next season and play "the best of 3".
Of course, a series is rather fair to determine a champion but the story of Israeli basketball is so one-sided budget-wise that a tournament of do-or-die games between the four strongest teams create more excitement and a chance for an upset. After all, you have a Final Four in the EL, too, after the regular season and the playoff stage are over. No home court advantage for the best record. I doubt that anyone could beat MTA in a series in Israel, although Bnei Hasharon came very close to do so. It's good to have Israeli players on your team, if only two of them are allowed to play. How can you expect contribution from Green and Limonad, if they are playing so little even domestically?! When they are on the court, they totally lack self-confidence and make mistakes. Limonad, a player with chutzpah, with cojones, is suddenly playing as if he doesn't belong there. On the other hand, Pnini is getting the trust of his coach and has played a wonderful season with especially strong last two months of play.

Ynet reports that Gershon and Drucker were abandoned of their positions in Maccabi and the club is going for David Blatt now. If this is true, this isn't a bad move imho. Blatt works with what he's got and he tries to squeeze the maximum out of it. Pini is used to be working with best of the best and he clearly degrades certain players to his doghouse for a whole season. He is a totally different character than Blatt in this respect. I remember how he didn't let Kirk Penney play, how he marinated Limonad on the bench now. Wh does the team keep Green (has kept him until now), when it is well known that he can perform only if he gets trusted and gets a lot of playing time?

it's so stupid. one match, and if you have luck, you are new champion. in that case you can have no lose but if you lost just one match, you won't be champion. it's the same in adriatic league.

          maccabi has contract with euroleague?

            Yes, Maccabi does.

It's a floating link. I can't provide it anymore,as I cannot use Hebrew searching machines on that site. I think, we will get the right news within a week or so.

It is stupid indeed, but just to make stuff clear here:
if we consider the playoff + final four in Israel:
Maccabi have 4-3, even though 5 out of 7 games, were played in Tel-Aviv.
Galil have 5-0, while playing only 3 home games.

If you add the fact, that Galil is the only Israeli team, that have a large number of significant Israeli players, and consider the fact that Galil is the only team who have 7 players in the rosters that played for the team at least 2 seasons so they deserve the championship title, they build themselves right.

Mister Gershon seems to me a person with a very big mouth who makes sure he always has a good assistant who does the work for him while he takes the credit. And in the meantime he hurts the reputation of the club he works for. The incident in the nba charity game, the racist speech against blacks. How can you let a person like that run a club like Maccabi Tel Aviv.

This isn't a reason to win a championship. Maccabi had 21-1 record in the league while Galil with poor 14-8. If you give the championship to team who wins 2 games what is the point of league? why play all those games in the league? you can play with your youth team entire season than land some nba free agents and win 2 games, this isn't sport.
It's promotion to the israeli league on the back of Maccabi, pretty weird that they agree to this system.

                    • Congrats to Galil, huge performance under pressure. Of course this title wont mean a thing in a couple of years with the way things here are, but still.
And the Winner cup curse goes on...

Nothing is official. It's the wish of everybody in France, but the League doesn't share this wish. Up to now, for next season it's unfortunately the same system, one single game in Paris.

                            • Anyone know where I might be able to track down some Bnei Hasharon games from 2009/10? Specifically, I'm looking for any of these. I've looked through the video thread, but the only game is an early Maccabi Tel-Aviv game this season.

10/25/2009 Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon Ironi Ramat G.
11/29/2009 Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon Macc.Rishon LZ
12/6/2009 Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon Galil Gilboa
12/13/2009 Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon Hapoel Holon
1/31/2010 Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon Ironi Ramat
