  • Holon back in the PL - now for sure?

A year ago Hapoel Holon qualified to the PL but stayed in the second league after not fulfilling the budget requirements ($1M). Yestedrady, after a very intense series against Beer-Sheba, they have qualified again (instead of Givat Shmuel which has relegated). This time, Miki Dorsman (Holon's sponsor & coach) announced he will be able to raise the required amount. Being also a Holon fan myself (with MTA), and with Holon having one of the biggest crowds in the league, I hope things will be different this season.
BTW, the whole thing may turn around many more times, not only for Holon: Beer Sheba can also qualify if other PL teams don't find the required budget, and there are also talks about returning to 12 teams in the PL, something that will also keep Givat Shmuel there as well. The pathetic thing is that this decision will be effective immediately, turning the whole second league qualification series and bottom PL struggles meaningless.

"...uh, is there anyone, like, cool in here?"

There's not enough talent for 12 interesting teams in the PL. I think the PL should keep 10 and continue to improve in talent development. There's enough natural talent for the PL to be saturated but the PL talent pool is shallow right now.
Alrighty then! Take care now, bye bye then.

As far as I'm concerned, PL should be composed of 8 teams at best. The level is just ridiculous with 10 and the idea of 12 teams is nothing but laughable. Furthermore, PL should be the only Israeli league were foreigners are allowed.

The PL has three tiers Maccabi, four teams that have and possibly could beat Maccabi and five teams that never could beat Maccabi. If the PL is to improve the third tier should decrease. Ironi and some what with Galil proved that if there's a program that has beyond a conceptual understanding of basketball, Maccabi is beatable.
Alrighty then! Take care now, bye bye then.

Wow, Klanvin, is that you or your evil twin? Because someone whole season wrote about struggling of foreigners against Israeli talents....
          Yalla Maccabi!!!

If you're wrong about me being in the klan you're probabily wrong about many other things like how well teams did that invested in foreigners like Ashkelon, Rishon, Givat and Ramat-Gan. The only team that did well that solely invested in foreigners is Bnei Hasharon and if the season started over today they wouldn't even be in the final four. The only reason Maccabi is any good now is Halperin and Burnstein.

Don't you see a little (tiny miny....) logical inconsistency???
That what I was questioning - not telling that foreigners were better or worse (better, but that not matters for this discussion).

Any idea why the budget requirement is $1M? There are obviously teams in the PL that make very little money...this is quite a lot to be required to pay out in salaries and such, is it not?

Its a nice round number. no other reason, there are some teams that even have that amount of budget. Its like the euroleague requirements for a 5000 capacity seating, while some teams have less.

Even that I live in Ashkelon, I hope that Ashkelon and Givat Shmuel will be in the second division next year.

I prefer to see teams like Beer-Sheva and Holon, with a big crowd in the PM and not teams that bring 200 fans to a game.

12 Teams is to much, 10 is more then enough

big crowd in the PM? I assume the PM is referring to the arena...wouldn't the extra fans make the crowd even bigger and build more intensity between teams and fans making it more exciting?

also - hard to argue with seeing better players, unless you think your team will likely not be successful in DI - is that what it is?

                            PM means premier league.
And yes, holon and beer sheva have much bigger crowds then most of
PM teams. givat Shmuel team didn't even play in the their own town.
Holon has a an arena of 2800 seats, third biggest in Israel, although recently the PM board was arguing that they should renovate the arena to fit PM standards.

                              Why PM and not PL?
And regarding Holon's arena: seems like PL management won't allow Holon using it unless fully renovated, something which won't likely happen until the opening of the season. I really can't understand it. The arena is the same as it has always been during Holon's long years in the first league. Did the standards change?
