  • Miki Berkowitz

I got the idea to open this thread after reading this great article on Euroleague.net, the article

The purpose of this thread is to ask-do you guys think Israel will ever have such player again? a player that has it all. leadership, elite scoring ability, defense, coldblooded in the money time. a complete package. I feel sorry that I didn't get to watch him playing.. maybe some of our older users can share experiences?
Also in the article he said something I didn't know, that he could be the first ever FIBA player to enter the NBA.. it's hard to even imagine something like that.

I feel shame to admit it but if we look on the youth those days and on our modern bball with so much international players its very hard to see someone like this arrive in the near future.

Kattash was a great player that did big things and could do even bigger things if not for that injury but I don't think he could be better than Miki..

Lets say that a hunge change in prespective should be done not only in the older bball progrems but also in the youth progrems to really get something near Miki.

The academy is a good progress but I don't know how productive it will be.. some teams in the league should start taking youngsters as projects, no team will get relegated anyway so instead of wasting money on foreign players that you already know they won't take you far, they should use this opportunity that they can't get relegated and build their future instead. But for some reason long-term plans are not an option in Israel.

my opinion that maccabi need to take a two potential youngsters every few years.
in the first year they should get 10 minute in the loto league, in the second thay should give them 20 minute in the loto, if they make a good progress for the third year they will give'em 20 minute in the loto and 10 in the euroleague-and if till the third year they won't make a good progress they will realise them.
just by giving a player the stage he need he can prove himself(ohayun is a great example)-maccabi need israelis the most, and the future of the israeli basketball don't look so good.

If you're asking me for the whole rediculous regular season Maccabi should play with the youth team, it should be enough to reach the playoffs and in the playoffs we can let the big boys play and win the championship easily. but obviously it won't happen. Also it's hard to expect a team with the highest goals like Maccabi to do it when even teams that know they have no chance for anything don't usually do it.

Although I, as a typical Israeli like to criticize I (and you also) have to notice some positive changes in recently for the Israeli bball.
First of all we got read from the fake russian law that only makes the leading israeli players to play more with out real helping the Israeli player. With the russian law the rotation was fake and evolve around two or more who didnt even meant to play but were playing cus of another player.
now there is ''only'' 4 americans.
                      second is the academy.
third is the closing of the league in purpuse to save the clubs from despairing...get the league bigger meaning you have to get more israelis in the team and built on them more, that eventually give the stage to young players.

                      Dont worry,be happy
