In my think,Israel's bball is very power in Europe...I often see Israel's team (The club) wins the champion at the European league tournament in CCTV,but why not you Nationl team? Why???
They have some decent young players now so maybe in few years their senior NT will participate in WC but of course if Maccabi's youth policy will be like it is now don't expect their NT in WC (what a lame abbreviation )
because Israel has a very mediocre team and Lithuania's national football squad has more chances of going to Euro's than Israel to Olympics

well - actually it's a good question.
personally i don't think we are good enough. croatia and maybe russia are 2 countries that should've be there before we do.
but actually the israeli basketabll assosiation thinks differently just a month or two ago they launched a project along with the israeli olympic comitee aiming at sending the basketball team to the 2008 olympics or 2010 wc or 2012 olympics. seems too ambitious to me (espcially regarding the olympics which have less teams than the WC). but they say the distance is beating 2 better teams in the EC (one in the qualifiers and the other in quarter finals) and if you reach the semis your in. i say it's a huge difference - we can (and we did) beat one team but two in a row is a matter of force-major and not of basketball.
meanwhile this decision affects the budget of the NT so if someone managed to procuede the OC to spend money on this ambitious project who am i (as a b-ball fan) to complain.
if Israel make a regulation of playing in their teams only 4 or at most 5 foreigners (including players like Sarp) then someday Israel will build a nice NT and not wait only for Maccabi to participate in the EL in order to see basketball.

Isreali national team are pretty good but its hard in IL to keep a very well balanced team.
There are many reasons for this:
A.)The IL army- IL players needa do it for 3 years, and that can realy block the process of a young star...insteed of being able to go to major clubs and make a good europen jump they are stuck from 18-21 in il. while most europen players by 21 are already highly marked.
B.)The IL players approch to training are very diffranet from europens. look at how powerfull and in great shape are europen players...look at there stamina and compare it to the avg IL player.
C.)Not many IL players get a chance to play in high levels...and if so they play the "black sheep" role like Tal does in maccabi...or get killed like Yotam Halprin almost did in maccabi.
the talnet is there but there are big and even more reasons why on national team, We IL's always fail.

Interesting try to find an answer why our successful young players stop in their progress when they get older Well, it really seems like simple and obvious conclusion, but I'm afraid it's wrong. I'm afraid you will never meet our U18 NT players or even their less successful back-ups among IDF fighters. I'm also afraid you will never meet them even in non-combat "job" forces, because for many years all good young sportsmen go home just after less than one month of basic trainings. Maybe they have to visit their bases sometimes, but for sure all those "stars" continue sporting trainings and games in a teams inside Israel and in Europe so to call them soldiers it's funny and unfair to real soldiers.
