  • Macabbi Haifa's questionable charitable program?

Macabbi has a charitable effort geared to bring underprivileged kids to the games in Haifa. While this initiative sounds worthwhile, it appears more than a little self-serving.

The details shown below from their website indicate that each "donation" simply provides a ticket, apparently worth $50, to a poor child in haifa.
When I went to see the Israeli Cup championship between the two best teams in the league (incl. Macabbi Tel Aviv), tickets cost around $22 US for decent seats.
Where does the other $30-$40 go for these overpriced "donated" tickets? (perhaps player salaries?) would these tickets actually be sold if they weren't paid for and "donated" to local kids? (looking for an update on 2009-10 attendance, 2008-09 apparently was 1800+)

    You got them, man.

Time to admit it: Maccabi Haifa management pays players salaries/ arena rent/flights/accommodation out of their charity ticket packages.
