    It's June 23rd.

Believing that a player after playing 100 games in one competition needs more than just few days off before playing in completely different competitions with different teammates is not just wishful thinking. Playoffs are very hard for Nba stars. You can expect 40 minutes every game, all burden on them, everyone with some minor injuries. But even more importantly you're emotionally spent, winning or losing, after that kind of competition. Giannis is not exactly a player, who can dominate with his skills and Fiba rules don't exactly favour him, he has to be 100% physically and mentally to be dominating.

Like I said, I don't see Bucks in the Finals, but there's far greater chance for that, than Luka missing the tournament. If Luka misses the tournament Slovenia has 0,1 % to make the final game.

      • Bobby if i were u i would be way more worried not about Luka, but about ageing Doncics supporting cast in Slovenia NT

Luka will be fine but in order to win he need others to step up.

in 2023 it was clear he got very limited tools to work with.Like always with every new game Doncic was looking more and more gassed doing everything for that team.

Compare to 2021 what fresh blood Slovenia NT added? Doncic supporting cast was peaking at 27-30 in 2021, now they will be veterans in their 31+ and for such players playing every second day is not easy to recover.

Do you guys have a tall guard who can restrict Doncic a bit? And I dont want to read Kalaitzakis now. I mean serious candidates because Calathes doesnt look great defensively anymore.

Giannis guarding the paint is crucial, otherwise Doncic can take down Greece by himself I suppose, He just needs shooter and a big who can roll.

              What about Mitrou-Long or Walkupopoulos?

I totally forgot about Walkup. Yeah he should help at least better than Calathes.

We have several options now for the naturalized player position: Dorsey, Walkup and Mitrou-Long.

                  • I think Giannis will participate if it in his power to do so. He was ready to participate at the previous OQT, but the NBA finals overlapped that tournament. He could have joined Pitino' s Greece at any moment. All he needed is a few days of rest.

Besides, coach Spanoulis made it clear. Unless you are injured, you need to help Greece NT. There's no excuse. And given the fact Greece organises the tournament, there is no way around it. Giannis will be there if he's healthy. So will any other Greek top player.

Some say Giannis will not be 100% after a long season. Quite true. But even at 50% he is a gain for the team.

I personally think Croatia will be first in their group and play the Finals to either Greece or Slovenia.

Btw Greece hasn't played in that arena in ages. It's the arena Greece won the 1987 Eurobasket.

I'm not worried about Luka at all, like Mavs are looking, he will be well rested. Motivated and rested Luka should make Slovenia be pretty competitive against Greece without Giannis, so go Bucks. If Giannis plays well rested it will be very difficult for Slovenia.

                      • So at the end it turned out that coaching the greek NT was a bad idead both for the greek NT and Itoudis himself. By bye Fenerbahce...

To be fair, I don’t think that Greece will easily loose an official game at home against any opponent. Even without Giannis. The players which were absent last year can easily lift Greece two levels.

Consider that Greece essentially only had Papagiannis in the frontline in the Philippines, that even players like Kostas and Agravanis would have lifted Greece one level. Let alone Mitoglou, Sloukas and Calathes.

You really think Sloukas and Calathes could survive Doncic? Sorry but Doncic will destroy them. Without Giannis you will lose like Lithuania did 2 years ago and even with Giannis is 50 50

Nothing is easy in basketball, but I would like our chances against Greece without Giannis, not so much with Giannis in good form.

Nobody can defend Luka 1 on 1. He's far the most doubled player in Nba. They would try to trap him and put double and triple teams on him, like Australia did in WC. But that means wide open teammates all the match. It didn't work for Australia in WC.
