  • Greek NT 2024

We are were we were. We had a bad tournament with respect to the result (but not with respect to the teams potential) and we lost our coach. It seems that some players stayed away from the NT on purpose.

Greek basketball did not hit rock bottom because we were able to pass to the second round but the future looks gloomy.

Too few potentials for the future but the main problem that needs to be addressed is the replacement of Sloukas and Calathes. Giannis should be able to stay on the highest level until he gets his 32 birthday so it means maybe two more tournaments for him. After that a restart is much needed.

If somehow all of our prospects put in work and get play time away from Pao/Oly, I wouldn’t be too pessimistic. The problem is that this combination of bad development and toxicity between Pao/Oly that seeps into the national team creates a terrible environment where the primary goal should be unity.

I did not have the impression tha the Pao/Oly fight was present in the NT this year. In past tournaments yes but not this year. I observed more of a PAO-Fener fight when it comes to player transfers.

I agree that Sloukas and Calathes have to be replaced but allthough we dont have crystal clear potential candidates I am not afraid too much about the guard situation. I am more afraid about the PF/C position because you cannot teach height.

Tanoulis and Samodurov are the best candidates for Center and the PF position. I think the guard situation is more serious right now. You can and should play Giannis at 5, then you have Mitoglou and Agravanis.

I for one think it's nonsensical to expect of Greece to be able to compete in the World Cup without several key players. Ask yourself how far Germany would get without say Schroder, Wagner and Obst.

Greece was missing 6 players. Out of whom I consider Giannis, Calathes, Sloukas and Mitoglou to be game changers. Even more so. Having lost the aforementioned four, even Kostas and Agravanis would have been key. And I leave out Dorsey because of Walkup.

You want to perform, bring your best. Otherwise you don't deserve it. Forget about Serbia. They are an exceptional case.

As for the future, as I mentioned before, even without Calathes and Sloukas Greece could have been much better with Giannis, Mitoglou, Kostas and Agravanis. But it would be great for Greece if in the next two years some guards will lift their level.

Right now ,Greece needs commitment and continuation. The quality is there. Any possible failure of Greece lies in there, rather than the performance of the team in a world Cup.

Mitoglu was out for more than a year. To base the whole team on this kind of payer was a risky move.

We have George Pappas on the guard position. Just kidding. Tanoulis looks like not beeing from greek origin. Maybe his mother is from Scandinavia, Germany/Austria or an East-European country. But I do not find any information about it on the internet. It is just said that he was born in Thessalonica.

There are blonde Greeks. You shouldn't assume that he comes from Sweden based on the way he looks

Yes yes keep cool. 100% ethnic purity is an outdated concept. For sure there is some genetic influence outside the southern balkan peninsula in his family.

Dont mix up Atatuerk with Tanoulis. By the way his brother has been signed by Olympiakos soccer section. So they both play for Olympiakos now.
