I heard Chris Williams had played basketball in German past season.

He came Korea and participated in Korean basketball team(Ulsan Mobis Pheobus)

-->Ulsan city name , Mobis is holding company of Hyundai Motors

Anyway , he gave a great present to the team.

The team win 1st place in regular season fot the first time in team history.

but unfortunately be defeated by Seoul Samsung Thunders in playoff.

Chris Williams , he did a great job.he was honored with best imported player award.

he was versatile. he was just a alien.

There are many foriegn players(most of them former nba player) but no one

can be compare with him.

To say a word , he is best.

But Korean Basketball League(KBL) rules imported player's salary limit

is 180 thousand dollars a year(180,000 us $)

but MOst team break against the rule they give more money to them secretly.

Everybody knows that , but anyone say that.

Anyone let me know how much he earned a salary a year in Germany.

Absolutely great player, he played for the Skyliners last season and was definately the best foreigner in Germany. He averaged 19.2ppg, 9.8rpg, 3.8apg and 2.3spg in the BBL least year, leading the team to the vize championship (lost the finals in 5 games against GHP Bamberg).
But he already earned more than 180.000$ here in Frankfurt - and he had way better offers from other teams in Europe (like AEK from Greece or Besiktas from Turkey). When he went to Korea rumours said that signed a contract worth 700.000$ per season at Ulsan. Frankfurts Manager Wöbke even said in an interview before the season that he had an offer worth 4-5 times the amount of money he earned in Frankfurt from Ulsan and therefore it was impossible to keep him. I can't tell you if that's true since I have no clue about korean basketball but he should definately earn more than 300.000 Euro net there (about 380.000 US Dollars), otherwise he could've stayed in Europe as he had offers in that category from european teams.

I've heard (from a good source) that he was geting 40k USD per month in Korea - how long is a season there? It will be interesting to see a big fight over him in Europe which for sure will start very soon...

Concerning about his contract with the Korean basketball club you could assume that he may have been lured there because of the extra stuff that were part of the contract such as a car, apartment (luxurious one) etc. even women, which is quite unethical ...anyway, there would have been heaps of reasons for him to go to Korea.

When he was here in Australia playing for my favourite basketball club the Sydney Kings he totally dominated our league after just coming out of the University of Virginia. He put up MVP type numbers 23.6ppg (2nd) 12.5rpg (2nd) add in 4.3apg and 1.2 bpg (7th). He was an easy runaway winner of the league's MVP. Of course this was the beginning of the Sydney Kings' dynasty of 3 straight championships. The guy was like a secret before coming to Australia. Coach Brian Goorjian (also the national team coach) saw Williams play and made sure that it was a low key that the Kings were going to sign him in order that other clubs don't come in and offer a better deal. That's the hard thing in Australia. We always loose quality imports and mind you also exciting imports to overseas leagues. Another example is former U. of Arizona starter of the 1997 NCAA Champions Bennett Davison. A quality player and a crowd pleaser who averaged 22.4ppg, 9.4rpg and 2.1bpg. However, the Melbourne Tigers lost him to Euroleague club Union Olimpija of Slovenia (sorry about the spelling).

But Williams also wouldn't have to pay for car or apartment (not sure about the woman factor), and he could expect similar (or bigger) salary, if he would stay in Europe. So there has to be some specific reason that he went to South Korea...

I'm from Frankfurt/Germany and I followed Chris playing 2 seasons in the german league. D
uring his time with the Frankfurt Skyliners, he helped the team in the first year to make it to the cupfinals and to win the championship for the first time in franchise history! In the second year he was even more outstanding than in his first season in Germany and he was the keyfactor for another final appearance.
Well now that Chris left Germany, the Skyliners only finished 14th in the league and almost had to face relegation. Chris left a big gap in Frankfurt and now everyone knows how important he was...
Many experts in Germany say, that Chris was the best international player who ever played in the country! And I have to say, that I've never ever seen anybody like Chris before and after...

But to answer your question: Chris didn't earn a lot in Germany. I've heard from a good source that the Skyliners did not pay him more than 200.000 US-Dollars per year. But of course that's just arumour - noone really knows the sallaries.
But I've heard another rumour about Chris and Mobis: In Germany certain sources said, that Chris would earn almost 100.000 US-Dollars per month in Korea!!!
Do you think that this is realistic?!?

All year I tried to follow the KBL season via internet. But it's not that easy for europeans. It would be great if you'd post something about Chris and Mobis via threads on this page.
Man, you can call yourself lucky to see Chris another season at Mobis.
If Korea wasn't that far away, I'd come to your country to watch him play again...

I'd go with Kaukenas.
Wendell Alexis and Marcus Goree were not bad, either. Seeing what he did here, it's kind of hard to understand why he hasn't even tried succeeding in a big european League.
Kaukenas and Goree are both leaders on good teams right now, especially Rimantas is having an awesome season.
I wonder where Chris Williams would be, had he signed for a big club.

Wherever Chris played, wheather it was in Australia, Germany or now in Korea, the level always seemed too easy for him!
I'd really like to see him in Italy, Spain or Greece! There he should really be challenged! I think he could compete in those leagues as well! He managed to score 30 Points in the EL in Moscow against CSKA.

Williams is a guy that does not play spectacular or egoistic but very consistent and in the end you wonder that he has 25/10 again, cause he did all the small things. Perfect player for a team like Barca, Real or Panathinaikos.

As far as I know, in the beginning of the season Besiktas tried to sign him. His coach in Frankfurt, Murat Didin, wanted very much to bring Chris Williams and Tyrone Ellis with him, but Williams didn't like the money offered and went to Korea.

I don't know the number but I guess Besiktas's proposal must have been much more than 180k dollars. (Good players usually gets more than 300k in Turkey).

Williams stays in Korea

Didin loved Williams during their time in Frankfurt. I'm sure he wanted him to come with him to Besiktas. But I heard that he had a try-out with another turkish club. Unfortunatly I forgot the club's name... But he failed their and not at Besiktas!
Didin signed another tweener instead of Williams: Michael Wright! Worked out pretty well! I think Williams would have been at least as strong as Wright s now in the turkish league!

Well, according to Eurobasket Chris Williams signed with Mobis again...

I just don't understand why he ain't trying to come back to Europe and play Euroleague! It can't be challenging for a guy like Williams to play in Korea!
But it must be the money that makes him stay...

Williams is a paycheck player. He understood that he won't be a NBA player, he's not playing for his dream to win the Euroleague one day and the teams in Korea don't pay bad (and maybe offer other things as well). So in order for a European team to sign him they need to offer him more money / better conditions.
Like Sariss said, he had an offer from Besiktas but refused it because he wanted more money. They offered him about 300k per season. Williams also had an offer from AEK of Athens, they offered a bit less than 300k.
Never heard about a try-out for a turkish team besides Besiktas though, the only thing I heard was that Ulker was interested in him, too (didn't hear about an offer though, let alone a try-out) - would be interesting to know which club you've heard about when you remember it again.
