  • Bulls’ Noah arrested for possession of marijuana

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Authorities in Gainesville have charged Chicago Bulls forward and former Florida star Joakim Noah with possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol.

Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Rick Roberts says Noah was arrested around 1:50 a.m. Sunday after an officer spotted him on a sidewalk holding a plastic cup containing an amber drink, a violation of city law. During a search at the station, officers found marijuana in his pocket.

Noah was released after signing a notice to appear before a judge—standard procedure for such offenses. He could face up to 6 months in jail and a $500 fine for the marijuana charge.

Noah led the Gators to consecutive national championships before being selected ninth overall in last June’s draft by the Bulls. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games as a rookie.

Bulls spokesman Tim Hallam said general manager John Paxson “did express to Joakim his disappointment in his actions this weekend” and added: “Until we gather further information on this situation, we won’t be making any further comment.”

all he'll get is a slap on the wrist and not even jail time. he is like gator country's son.. personally id like him to stay in prison until someone beats out his immaturity...or gangraped out, which ever the first occurs.

While i agree that its really immature i consider that when it's the first time your involved into such stuff, you deserve a second chance.

And hopefully he will bounce back and grow up some as his college years are past now and he has to behave as a real professional player.

Disappointing sh.. anyway as was his first year in chicago (we will see what draft 08 will bring for him)

I don't see nothing bad in here. It is part of the hip hop culture. It is natural product and should be legalised in all world because it is not worse than alcohol. I don't think it is drug at all. Personaly I did not smoked couple years and don't want to do it but it is better if addicts will smoke, than to drink vodka and then beat innocent people.

How many of them in the NBA smoke it? It's zero tolerance in the NBA for substance abuse and drug use. That's if you get caught.

Yeah, he does need to behave more maturely, and that's true for a lot of players. Even on the court, when you look at Noah and then you look at Duncan, Manu, Tony, well, there is just no comparison in their maturity.

As for the chargers, the alcohol thing isn't too serious. I think most towns have laws against walking in public with an uncovered drink. The marijuana is pretty bad, though. But like Jay said, nothing will happen. It'll just be a summons in court and a slap on the wrist.

Just a young man who wants to party, uhh? Anyway, what is bad with it? Just a taboo in the modern culture, as many people use to take soft drugs or alcohol during parties... He is on holidays, back to his university to party with some friends... It's not like he arrives drunk at a game. So, let's forget about that stuff. And ask those cops if they never did so.
