Speaking about the facts in ex Yugoslavia league we were the most succesful team with 12 tytles and speaking generally we have with Serbian league 17 tytles and we are in general right after Partizan with 21 tytles most of them after separation (they had only 4 in ex Yugoslavia league)which was probably the strongest one in Europe for decades. Moreover,Crvena Zvezda and 4 of our legends (Bora Stankovic,Saper,Nebojsa Popovic and Aleksandar Nikolic) are the founders of Yugoslav baskebaĺl school, and Aleksandar Nikolic is the coach who influenced all the greatest Europian coaches last couple of decades...just to mention that Zeravica,Maljkovic and Ivkovic were learning from him...but actually it is quite useless to explain you that, although you're probably in secondary school, or at least mentally still on that level

Obradovic as well. Who was riding shotgun for the 1992 EL Championship of Partizan. Nikolic

Don/t you think, guys, that it's just another senseless and disrespectfull discussion? EL will certainly miss a team from Serbia, especially a team like Zvezda which added spice to the competition in the last couple of years, and IMO it's strange not to see it. Plus all the achievements of the Serbian basket and their great players. As well as we will all miss both Greek teams (especially Oly). Would you really prefer a spanish-turkish closed-door deal?
But I have a question to Serbian fans. Is it true what the press write that Zvezda does not pay salaries to players for several months, and Radonjic was only payed once in the whole season? And if yes, how your team manages not to go bankrupt?

Team did go bankrupt some 6-7 years ago, went through receivership and all that.

Yes, Zvezda is faced with financial issues but it is not a unique situation actually, since it is the same case for Partizan even during their best years as well. The budget they create is heavily based on some promises of sponsorships, public company contracts etc. They are often late in paying those contracts, some deals fall through so the people managing the club are year round running around and fundraising. Same situation in football as well. Other sports in Serbia, even worse. So few things:

          - Yes salaries are late for players all the time. They do get paid, but for example out of a 300k contract and import would probably get most of that money towards the end of the season before the contract expires, he might get 20-30% during the year. With local players sometimes the club makes a deal that once they are signed onto a European powerhouse, they forgive their salary debts to the club etc.

          - Similar situation with coaches as well but most of them like working with our kids so they often go through hell to make a living. For example Radonjic turned down a very, very lucrative offer from Baskonia before the start of the season to stay with this Zvezda team.

          - Money doesn't come into the clubs account on a regular basis but in chunks. They get something during the preseason, some during the season and often they close the books at the end. So the club cannot payout regular monthly paychecks to players and coaches.

Taking all that into account, there is a huge public interest and a large fan base that demand excellence, so the question of participation will not even be raised. Zvezda will play in EL, the ever-present financial problems will be solved as they arise and ad-hoc

Zvezda will play EL this season with bigger budget and better team then last season. It's clear that F4 in Belgrade is extra motive to be there and to try to win EL.
Even this season Zvezda could make F4 if Jovic didn't get injured.

Zvezda doesn't need poltroon from greece to defend anything. Anyways Oly without Lojesky has modest chances to even get to F4.

I like Zvezda, but I really doubt that their motive will be to win EL. Realistically it will be very difficult to repeat last years 16 wins.

Not to win EL but to get to F4.
When you reach F4 on your homecourt then everything is possible, that's what I mean.

We need to improve budget and keep all team (except Mitrovic and Thompson) and bring two good foreigners. It will be really difficult imo.

But thanks for best wishes anyway.

Thanks, CoachZ, for detailed answer. Zvezda's management is really amazing, keeping in mind they constantly play at the highest level and sign good players every year. My favourite moment is: "With local players sometimes the club makes a deal that once they are signed onto a European powerhouse, they forgive their salary debts to the club etc." - that's effective management at its best!
And Radonjic's decision to stay is simply great, such an unprecedented thing nowadays. But now that the F4 will be in Belgrade, he will remain for sure, I think. Or are there any roumors?

                    • So we have completed the Treble! Winning ABA League, Serbian League and Serbian Cup! Great year with amazing performances in EL as well. Proud of the team! The picture says it all! Playing for Zvezda is an amazing experience, very unique and rewarding for players. Love!

There are many questions facing us for the next season and how the team will look like and even a new worry about keeping Radonjic is now emerging. Anyway more on that tomorrow in the new topic for Zvezda that I will open. Talking about the roster, players, potential signings etc.

It will be an off-season of uncertainty for sure with many question marks:

                          - The financial issues are always there, every year. Radonjic just talked about it in the presser after the title celebration. Most of the players have not gotten their fourth salary yet and he and the staff have not gotten their third salary this season. This will put a lot of pressure on the team in the following period on paying out those delayed salaries and closing the books for this year. This might force us in the direction of selling of someone for a buyout, even a smaller one if the promised finances and sponsorship deals don't kick in.

                          - Radonjic's contract has expired. Last year he refused a great offer from Baskonia to stay and build on his success and the roster. He had another amazing season coaching wise. He is a hot commodity. In the presser he has stated that legally he is not the coach of the team anymore, since his contract has expired. The financial situation and plans for the future are a worry for him and a key factor in entering negotiations for a new contract. So that will have to be a hard sell from the management and they will have to commit a lot of funds for the next season and a more powerful roster for him to stay.

                          - Status of some guys like Jovic, Lazic, Dangubic is in the air since they are hot commodities wanted by many teams. They are under contract all of them but there might be a temptation to sell to get some money before they are FA.

                          - Finances are directly connected to playing in the Kombank Arena, which is not as beloved by fans as Pionir but is cruicial for our finances. For several years we are getting fucked over with the dates to play there, due to random third class sport events etc. Because Zvezda cannot commit money upfront and book the arena in advance even before the schedule is out. Missing out on almost triple attendance compared to Pionir is a hard hit for the books.

It will be a tough summer for the team management.
