In 1995, Olympiakos had Johnson, Volkov, Tarlac and Tomic. They lost the FF in Zaragoza (we played more or less at home) vs us, and our team was compound by average (García Coll, Lasa, Antúnez, Ferrer, Santos and Cargol) and old (Martín and Chechu Biriukov) spanish players.

It's true that we have one of the best PF who has played in Europe (Arlauckas) and the best european C ever (Sabonis). Ah, and that guy with grey hair who is in your bench was in ours in that year. Obradovic? Yes, him.

For the sake of clarity. Back in the 90s one was only allowed to sign two non natives. Olympiacos cheated by naturalizing Tomic and Tarlac in order to acquire more foreigners. Yet, that team had Papanikolaou, Sigalas, Fasoulas which were part of the core of that team. Pao in 1996 only had Wilkins and Vrankovic as non-Greeks. The difference between the recent Greek teams and the Greek teams of the 90's is that the latter signed two or three of the very best in Europe to accompany the Greek players, while today the Greek teams have some decent non-Greeks to accompany the Greek star players (i.e. Diamantidis, Spanoulis).

I was first in this forum who wrote about necessity of bringing coaches like Obradovic ans Ivkovic if we want to make something big.
Mister from my profile picture did that and he persisted in his decision regardless of the results. He did in couple years something that Efes managers couldn't in two decades.


Losers from Efes brought one of the best coaches ever, Duda Ivkovic , but gave up after one and half season. If they gave him the real chance Efes could do something what deserves. In this moment their best option is to kill themselfs and to give licence to GS or Besiktas.

Little bit of topic but I compared two clubs from Turkey that went in opposite ways. We Fener fans sometimes don't appreciate enough what our management did, but people from outside including Zeljko Obradovic knows that very well.
